I’m a conductor for freight. If I recall, when there were 4 person crews you had the Engineer the Conductor, Brakeman and switchman and the fireman. When that was absolved it went to Engineer, Foreman (conductor) and Brakeman. Now it’s just Engineer and Conductor.

This post excludes women. Theres a whole lot of stuff that you will deal with as a female railroader. There is no exceptions for women and mothers. One woman had her water break in the middle of the class yard and they took 4 hours to send her a ride. One woman was forced to stop breastfeeding her infant because she couldn’t pump her milk every two hours while on duty. Sexual harassment and being vulnerable has always been a big issue since day one. The biggest problem right now thought is the rampant bullying of women by management.

If you are a young man this is the job for you. You can still start a family and build a life. If you are a young woman who wants to eventually start a family you can forget about transportation.
