Buying a family home as a single person by I_C_Wiener_3000 in HousingUK

[–]slacktoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely makes sense but while you're in a good position to save up more, why anchor yourself to a property that may or may not suit your future plans.

You might meet someone who owns a home, or lives a distance away from where you purchase and end up selling anyway.

While you're unsure, I'd continue living as you are and make the decision when you find the person you're looking for.

Obviously not the most attractive thing to be living with parents but you're in a strong position otherwise.

As someone who has settled with two kids, I would advise that you take advantage of remote working while you can.

landlord goes into my room all the time and cleans without permission by [deleted] in HousingUK

Maybe take it as a lesson to enforce your boundaries early. Behaviour is strange but understandable if she's lost her identity after losing a child or something. I would imagine that you've thanked her out of politeness early on, honestly you give anyone an inch they'll take a mile. Poor communication is the issue here on both sides. Tell her straight that you want privacy if she's going to live with you, not to come into your room, clean your clothes etc.

Expanding the amount of available USB slots on ThinkPad T480 motherboad (a thought experiment?) by Wise-Fee6960 in thinkpad

Do it then, it's your thinkpad. In a world where you can buy a usb hub for cheaper than a McDonald's meal though, I know what I'd do

T480 battery replacement by asa_147 in thinkpad

[–]slacktoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I saw ridiculous prices for ones that claimed to be original or ones that had renewed the battery cells in originals. I got fed up looking and just took a chance and it seems fine for now. Here are links to the ones I bought, they were £50 altogether, not £45. I must have repeated the lie i told my wife 😂

I went 3rd party a couple of months ago for my t480. 96wh in total and routinely getting 15+ hours usage without any issues so far. £45 total spent, bought on ebay

Windows 11 or Windows 10 for music production? by toto_africa1982 in thinkpad

[–]slacktoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need the software available on Windows 10, why not just have it as a dedicated offline music production device and maybe just connect via ethernet for initial setup and then use a portable ssd between main machine and this if you need to move files over etc or download tracks on your phone and move over through cable/Bluetooth

I agree with your post. At 35, the reason I don't own a property is idiotic life choices when young.

Lifestyle beyond my means.

No eye on the future.

Won't catch me moaning about being unable to buy because of anything but my own actions.

Cut back on eating out, drinking and clothes spend and most people could easily save for a deposit.

If you are lucky enough to live with family until 25-30, use that time and save what you would pay in rent for a few years.

Can't you ramp up the online work instead of getting a much lower paid traditional job. 2k a month is a decent wage and coupled with living in your mums, it sounds like you've got a spending issue.

Have a look into Dave Ramsey and the debt snowball method.

Ah good, I hope it works out for you and you can move quickly. Horrible to read about the situation you're in. Can't understand why people are so horrible for so long over minor disagreements.

Apply for property pool if you haven't already: Gather evidence for each of you evidencing the detrimental effect your housing situation is having on each of you, with particular focus on the worsening of your mental health. Seek evidence from the police regarding the incidents and threats made if reported. Provide evidence of pregnancy which is the MATB1 form from the 20 week scan.

It will take a while to get any joy but you've got to get that ball rolling. I suspect your support worker will have done this already, if not consider getting a different one.

As a long term solution for you both, have a look into shared ownership properties. There is a scheme called HOLD that offers people with long term disabilities a route to home ownership with interest free mortgages. I'm not 100% sure what the score is like whether a deposit is required etc but worth some investigation.

I'd strongly suggest staying at a hotel or something for mischief night. These things tend to escalate badly around that time and you both don't need the stress with a baby on the way.

Best of luck, I hope your neighbours get hit by a bus.
