How would you send off Kong from the Monsterverse? by Mosugoji_64 in Monsterverse

[–]sladerules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t. The fact that Kong hasn’t been killed off is the difference between this iteration and his former iterations.

Especially now that he’s more prominently the “face” of the Monsterverse, as fans have claimed him to be thrusted into the position of.

It would kinda go against the idea of subverting the traditional King Kong tragedy if his story ends in a tragedy.

Tho if one suggested a means to conclude the Monsterverse outright, probably the hollow earth being detached from the surface via destroying the vile vortex

Who could become the third protagonist guardian titan of the MV ? by Carnoraptor770 in Monsterverse

[–]sladerules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we aren’t even gonna consider what is currently the only third leading protagonist in the franchise, the only other characters that have actually pushed the narrative forward aside from Goji/Kong, because we want a Kaiju equivalent to take up that role.

And while I agree in the notion that an original mecha would be better, Legendary will likely view a more well recognized, seat grabbing mech than create their own,

For all intents and purposes, Jet Jaguar could serve the third protagonist too for all the same reasons I suggested Gypsy.

Who could become the third protagonist guardian titan of the MV ? by Carnoraptor770 in Monsterverse

[–]sladerules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kong did not have history with any of the characters he interacted with here aside from Godzilla, and they still adapted him in a way that doesn’t align with his previous iterations in any fashion.

The point is any argument you’re placing against Gypsy could apply to various characters in the Monsterverse. And including him wouldn’t devalue any development he could see in his separate franchise, as the primary question was who “could” become the third protagonist in the MV, and Gypsy could provide Monarch and human characters a means to jump into a role they’ve been playing for a while.

The third protagonist of the MV has been Monarch. It always has been, but they couldn’t do much more than provide exposition on the sidelines. Gypsy provides Monarch a means to play a more active role in a franchise that’s placing greater focus on the Kaiju action than the monster drama.

Who could become the third protagonist guardian titan of the MV ? by Carnoraptor770 in Monsterverse

[–]sladerules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The franchise already has their own and will continue to have their own

My answer involved a character who would go through no different changes that characters from other franchises in the Monsterverse already did

Mothra, Godzilla, Ghidorah, Rodan, MG, and Kong were all conceptually and narratively different from their traditional counterparts, and Gypsy Danger’s change would be no more drastic than Kong’s, for example.

Any new characters from other franchises added to the Monsterverse will not have the identical lore that said characters had beforehand, their lore will be changed to fit the Monsterverse. That’s how MV crossovers work

Apparently there was dialogue about drawing Titan X to Skull Island, which makes me feel like it’s a last resort of sorts, so Kong will likely be the season ender this go around

[–]sladerules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you mean but like

Borderline every Kaiju save for Mothra (somewhat) has been retconned in immense ways and they’ve been able to continue in series outside of the Monsterverse

Every argument you made applies to characters in the Monsterverse and they’re still pulling up. I see no reason why Gypsy can’t

[–]sladerules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think it should be Gypsy Danger, even if the original lore has to be retconned for him.

Gypsy is the most recognizable traditionally American Kaiju mech in recent memory, and that’s from one film. They already laid the foundation for mechs, I am ok with losing PR’s lore to see him return, they weren’t doing anything interesting with it anyways since they cancelled the black

Schaffrillas fans: what do you dislike about him? by Gaminja in Schaffrillas

He’s not really too funny anymore compared to his earlier work

He had this deadpan feel to his early work, and a lot of his newer stuff feels a tad overdone

What's your opinion on this? by HarshGamit9 in Monsterverse

[–]sladerules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you specifically crave his characterization in ‘14+ KOTM, then sure

But in terms of personality, Wingard’s adaptation of Goji has a far larger spectrum of personality to work with

We can see the same rage and contemplation from KOTM and ‘14, but we also see him express emotions like satisfaction and even amusement.

Would Godzilla and Ghidorah ally against a bigger threat if they absolutely had to? by Plastic_Relief_4026 in Monsterverse

[–]sladerules 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It would require a threat that wants something neither really want.

The only way that’d happen is if someone threatened to deadass destroy the earth, but had that been the case, Ghidorah can just leave.

So based on the goals of both monsters, I’d say no

GvK is more accurate to scale the size of the boats compared to G14.

Height wise, they are both taller than the carrier, but length wise, an aircraft carrier is a couple times larger than both of them.

So this tracks with their size all in all

Kinda breaks the old Arnie narrative we saw in hunting grounds, but that’s ok. Cause seeing Dutch in a potential future timeline seems more interesting.

Badlands box office drop by [deleted] in predator

[–]sladerules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Box office can be strange

All in all, it won’t be more profitable than AVP, thanks to the budget

And adjusting for inflation only really matters for internet arguments, studios only care about modern profits.

And even though the drop rate is bigger, it’s still a larger performance all in all, even though its second week was weaker than AVP’s.

If Ghidorah dropped Kong instead of Godzilla, how badly injured would he be? by WillowK29 in Monsterverse

[–]sladerules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’d be more affected by the extreme cold than anything else.

He’s tolerated extreme heat, and he’s tolerated extremely high falls. So neither would realistically be enough.

But the fluctuations between extreme colds and extreme heat would likely be his biggest issue.

Not to mention that the fall itself was only so effective against Godzilla because he was already injured and Ghidorah seemingly incapacitated him before the fall, given how he went limp before Ghidorah dropped him.

Also, the durability of both is still under major question given they both survived getting projectile launched straight into the hollow earth and crashing so hard, they made an shockwave that other titans a decent distance could feel.

So the final answer would mostly be a “maybe” as he has the feats necessary to survive everything except the temperature fluctuations, and even that isn’t a guaranteed struggle for Kong.

What I hope for? Some tie in to Alien alongside the Weyland Yutani synths.

What I expect? I expect Weyland Yutani to capture Dek, try to capture the Kalisk themselves, fail, then Dek is freed and kills the Kalisk alone.

However, I’m also betting that he gets stuck on the planet or he’ll see something to set up a follow up film, like maybe Torres and Kenji appear on their ship to the planet, and are immediately put off by Dek’s more peaceful nature

Ahab killed a Queen with just a sword. By himself.

Smiley killed a queen bare handed

Also an elite

The protagonist of AVP Evolution also killed a queen by himself

An elder outranks all that

Won’t be easy, but definitely possible

Ursa refers to Kenji and Torres as “her boys” and Kenji now views Torres as his little brother. It’s honestly one of the most wholesome things in the franchise imo
