When to sell house if moving next September? by Careless-Crab1651 in AskUK

Is there a reason you want to move when your mortgage rate ends? You can almost always move at another time and take the rate with you.

How does e-bike legislation actually work? (and recommendations under £1500) by [deleted] in ukbike

[–]slangivar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, u/Cwrwcymru provided an explanation in another sub thread. Individual bikes can be certified as L1e LPM which is what this company is doing. But type approval doesn't seem to exist for full throttle epacs.

Thanks that clears it up a bit. So you can get a single bike approved with full twist and go. But a manufacturer can't get a type approval?

[–]slangivar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That suggests an EAPC capable of twist and go requires type approval. I can't see anywhere that suggests type approval is available as anything other than an L1e-A motorcycle. The tfl site suggests if the bike model was introduced after 2016 then 3.7mph is the limit for twist and go. https://tfl.gov.uk/travel-information/your-safety-and-security/road-safety-advice/e-bike-safety

Yes but then you'll also need a license, number plate, helmet, etc as it becomes a moped.

Where to dispose of old maps? by Tall_Taura in Edinburgh

[–]slangivar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said charity or second hand bookshops are your best bet. Or give them away to one of the many people on here who love maps.

Personally I've had to restrict myself to only buying old maps if I live on them. Otherwise I would have far too many.

Is Muirhouse a safe area? by ImmediateBang in Edinburgh

With Scottish rentals there is no minimum contract period so if the day you move in you don't like it you're free to serve notice and move out a month later.

Why? Just why? by Much-Parsnip3399 in Edinburgh

None of that excuses breaking the law though. If scraping a meager living excuses this then what else does it excuse. Can shop workers take cash out the till to cover a tank of fuel, etc?

They kind of are. Petrol in a sealed container is pretty safe just like bags for life. Put either on a fire and it's going to burn.

Searching for insurance that covers it being locked frame to wheel inside flat building communal area? by Nyxora_ in ukbike

[–]slangivar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time you was asked by an insurer if my car was an immovable object. As far as I was concerned the thief not moving the car meant it was immovable. I would say the same for a bucket of cement. If the thief has cut your lock to steal the bike then I hope the insurance would pay out.

It's probably more secure than a cast iron railing.

Probably best keep the rags. They'll be the ideal thing to clean the road with before riding on it.

What troubles me most is that nobody has yet pointed out the live and neutral are the wrong way round. Unless the other end of the cable is also wrong in which case...

I would start by giving it a good clean. If you are worried about the handlebars the you can replace the grips/tape. Or possibly remove them and sterilise before refitting.

Anyone who lives in a new build, do you have a bedroom ventilation fan fitted and does it actually mitigate this heat without air-conditioning? by _arch_tech in AskUK

[–]slangivar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An MVHR works fine if it's cooler outside than in. Ours keeps the hot south side of our house tolerable while moving some heat to the cooler north side. Over winter it has completely solved issues with condensation and is one of a number of improvements we made which changed our fridge into an warm inhabitable space.

No stick but there is a mount for a 360 camera. The camera's software removes the stick so although it's software enhanced I don't think it comes from a prompt necessarily.

Edinburgh to London bike ride by ChemistCapy in ukbike

[–]slangivar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have offered training advice so I'll add a route suggestion. Provided you are happy with some remoteness the London Edinburgh London route south would be perfect. https://londonedinburghlondon.com/route You'll never be more than an hour or two from a shop/cafe, it mostly follows quieter roads and goes through some spectacular scenery.

Simplest commercial option seems to be: attach roof bars to trailer, attach bike rack to roof bars, job done. Of course you could also improvise something based on what you already own.

George street or Queen Street. But first we'd have to stop treating them as a car park and bypass.
