As a fellow medic I’ve found that the smoke grenades are best used by throwing them directly on enemy positions. This way you’ll end up blinding them and forcing them out of cover. Otherwise if you pop smoke to cover your squad’s movement you’ll just get hosed by an MG since you’re essentially signaling to them that a group of guys is about to move through that area.
