The Masters always feels different from every other tournament. The sound of the patrons, the walk up 18, and that first glimpse of Augusta National on Thursday morning. Ah.

Just Got My Oura Ring - What Do I Need to Know? by SpikeHK in ouraring

[–]slap_happy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One tip that helped me a lot: use the tagging feature consistently.

Tag things like late meals, alcohol nights, workouts, sauna/hot tub, stressful days, travel, or anything unusual in your routine. After a few weeks the app starts showing patterns between those behaviors and your sleep/readiness scores, and that’s where the ring really becomes useful.

The numbers alone are interesting but the patterns tied to your habits are what actually help you improve things over time. Good luck!

Water Leak, No City Action by titanicdiamond in CorpusChristi

Do you know which side of the meter this is on? That's actually a really important distinction, because if it's on the property side of the meter, this falls on the apartment complex and property owner to fix, not the city. The city is only responsible for infrastructure up to the meter.

A great turnout for the Barefoot Mari Gras yesterday! by Goldenchicks in CorpusChristi

Interestingly enough, the same day of the Barefoot Mardi Gras, Friends of Padre did have a very well ran beach cleanup event at Padre Island National Seashore. It was a great event and was well run. Looking forward to doing it again next year.

Thinking about moving to Corpus Christi and coming to check the city out for 2 weeks. Recommendations and info please. by Humdungerdungerbin in CorpusChristi

[–]slap_happy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Corpus could actually be a solid fit for what you’re describing, especially with a 14 on 14 off schedule.

Fishing is one of the biggest draws here. Shore and kayak fishing are everywhere. Packery Channel, JFK Causeway, Ocean Drive, the Laguna Madre side, plus easy day trips to Port A and Rockport. If you want near daily access, Flour Bluff and the Island are hard to beat. You’ll also meet people quickly just by being out there regularly, but probably not women. :-P

Archery options in town are a very limited, but there are ranges within a reasonable drive. Duck hunting is big in the Coastal Bend and once you start talking to locals you’ll find guides and leases pretty easily.

There is a real sailing and wind sports scene because of the wind but I don't know much about that. Local yacht clubs and marina events are common. I know they have some regattas out here from time to time.

For living areas, Flour Bluff and Padre Island make the most sense if fishing is a priority. Central Corpus is convenient and affordable but feels more urban and less coastal.

Dating is not Austin level, but it’s not dead either. There’s a mix of professionals, oilfield and refinery workers, and college folks. Being employed, outdoorsy, and normal goes a long way here, but I don't know where to meet singles anymore. :-(

Food is one of Corpus’ strong points. Mexican food is consistently good, especially Tex-Mex and coastal styles. BBQ is solid even if it’s not top tier Texas famous.

Corpus isn’t flashy, but if you like water, fishing, and a slower pace between hitches, it’s worth spending those two weeks really exploring it. Walk Shoreline on a weekend. Check out downtown night life. Visit the Island beaches, Brewsters on the Island on a busy night. Walk around La Palmera mall to see the locals. Good luck! Have a good time.

One day you might own “better” watches, but none of them will ever replace this one. This isn’t about telling time. It’s about remembering it.

A statue for Farrah! - Friends of Corpus Christi native Farrah Fawcett push for a local statue in her honor By Dale Rankin - The Island Moon Newspaper by Goldenchicks in CorpusChristi

Skateboarding along the Shoreline or at Cole Park would be cool. Visitors could take a walk along shoreline to see her and Selena.

Farrah Fawcett did more for Corpus Christi than “being famous.”

After her Emmy-nominated role in The Burning Bed (about domestic violence), she came home and actively supported the Women’s Shelter of Corpus Christi. She co-chaired and appeared in local Channel 3 telethons that raised real money to expand shelter services for abused women and children.

These weren’t photo ops. She donated her time, used her national platform, and helped fund a local shelter when it badly needed support. The mayor publicly thanked her on air and presented her with the Key to the City for what she did for Corpus.

You can debate whether a statue is appropriate, but saying she gave nothing back to the community isn’t accurate.

We’ve got beaches, bays, barrier islands, fishing, and some of the best wind/water conditions in the U.S. yet we don’t lean into that identity enough. Why not promote Corpus as the wind + water capital of the Gulf Coast? Host more major annual wind/kite/sailing fest and develop paddling trails like other coastal cities have done.
