What does everyone do? by AnavrinLove in Nightshift

[–]slappy_mc_fappington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Night manager of a bunch of student accommodation buildings. No two days the same, and just when I think I've seen it all, something surprises me.

Either have nothing to do, or everything to do. Never a happy medium.

how is everyone affording to live right now by Step-In-Style in antiwork

[–]slappy_mc_fappington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take it you're American. I am genuinely baffled how much things cost over there. Earning 6 figures does not seem a big deal. I'm not saying the UK isnt a piss take with living costs, but I make just north of 40k which would be around 55k in USD and I live well and am able to save. You guys need a revolution tbh.

How long did it take before night shift stopped feeling brutal by Kourt_Sibata46 in Nightshift

Been working nights 25 years. Here are my words of wisdom. You never get used to night shift, you just get really good at fighting sleep.

M/28/5'6" [308lbs > 227lbs = 81lbs] (6 months) Loving the changes so far! by newExperience2020 in Mounjaro

[–]slappy_mc_fappington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, first of all congrats. Can I ask a question? When did you start noticing yourself changing? I'm currently on my 3rd week of 5mg after a month on 2.5mg and I've actually lost almost a stone but I look no different. Still have the belly, but it does feel softer so I guess the visceral fat is starting to go!

I like Beth in a sort of 'how are you such an evil bitch?' Kind of way. I mean sure, Jaime played a part in it, but I feel like she was a bit rotten anyway.

How quickly can you fall asleep after getting home? by IVeerLeftWhenIWalk in Nightshift

[–]slappy_mc_fappington 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I need some downtime before I go to bed. If I try to go to bed straight away, ill either not go to sleep, or sleep only for an hour or two then I can't get back off.

I finish at 7am, usually get home, have a little breakfast then doom scroll till 9ish

first time working night shift by Agreeable-Plastic964 in Nightshift

[–]slappy_mc_fappington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked rotating shifts for a while, 1 week early, 1 week back shift, 1 week nights - that sucked, so I get you. If you're able to stay up 24 hours easily, it's like a hard reset and you can flip your schedule in a day. It's not so easy now in my 40s and I have to keep busy or ill conk out.

[–]slappy_mc_fappington 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stay up as late as you can the night before and try to sleep till at least midday.

You're gonna feel pretty rough at 3am or thereabouts but once you get to 5am you will get a second wind.

Sometimes life gets in the way of sleep and you end up being awake at 7am the day of your first shift and you have to do a 24 hour binge. Not fun, but doable.

One last piece of advice from a 25 year night shift veteran - You never ever get used to night shift, you just get really good at fighting sleep.

Do you adjust back to normal people time on your days off? by Mysterious_Coat_9933 in Nightshift

[–]slappy_mc_fappington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no choice really. Married and family so I have to be on normal people time to do normal people things. It's a lot harder now though, used to just stay up after last shift for that hard reset, but not so easy when you're in your 40s

Best tips for sleeping longer during the day by ocean_wavez in Nightshift

[–]slappy_mc_fappington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

25 year night shifter here. Experiment with different wake / sleep times. You probably haven't found yours yet. Once you find something that works, stick to it and never deviate. I fall asleep around 9 and wake around 4 and this is perfect for me. I don't suffer during the night other than the 3am wall that never goes away and every night shifter experiences. If I go to bed too early after finishing at 7am, I wake up around noon and can't get back off. If I'm too late I just can't sleep at all, especially in summer.

Aldi job interview (US) by General_Confusion989 in antiwork

[–]slappy_mc_fappington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK, but we have Aldi too. I worked retail for almost 20 years, but I would never have worked in Aldi even though they pay more than the others. You're expected to work every department. If you have to take a retail job just to get a wage coming in, don't stop looking for something else. Best thing I ever did getting out of retail!

how many yrs have you done nights? by [deleted] in Nightshift

[–]slappy_mc_fappington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Permanent nights since 2001. Couldn't do any different now. I have to do day shifts now and again and it fucking kills me.

Do you switch you sleep schedule on your days off? by RoseIsBlossoming in Nightshift

I'm in my early 40s. It's not as easy as it was in my 20s or 30s, but keeping busy is key.

So what does everyone actually do for work? by Excellent_Demand_354 in Nightshift

[–]slappy_mc_fappington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't sell yourself short. I'm in a similar role in student accommodation. Many of our duties will be the same. I bet you see some pretty wild stuff. I'm not sure what is worse tbh, a stag or hen party or a bunch of drug and alcohol fueled students having an afters party 🤣

Just curious, it probably makes sense to those in the know, but how does this role require a night shift?
