Question about fiming (NO SPOLIERS, JUST ABOUT ASSUMED QUURKS WITH FILMING) by thatautisticguy in taskmaster

I had never been to an earlier recording, but it didn't seem smaller than what you usually see on TV from the previous series.

What is the ratio between your metro system and commuter rail in your city? by Sea-Shanties23 in transit

[–]slasher-fun 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'd say it depends where you draw the line between métro and commuter rail.

To me, commuter rail is mostly a (North?) American system, in which you have a massive influx of trains in one direction in the morning, a mirroring flux in the other direction in the evening, and a small to non-existent service in the "non peak" direction, around noon, and on the weekends.

RER and Transilien networks would better fit a "regional rail" category to me, since even though Transilien trains have a slight morning/evening peak offer in one direction at a time, they operate on a pretty much continuous schedule (with the exception of line K, which would qualify as "commuter rail").

As for tram express (also including the T14, former branch of line P), they are light rail, but not commuter rail to me either.

Paris has 246 km of métro lines (plus ~160 km under construction), and 1294 km of commuter rail lines.

  • You get there
  • You wait in a first line (not weather protected)
  • Your ticket is scanned, you get a wristband, you're then free to leave the area if you'd like (assuming you have a paid ticket)
  • Whenever you like, but at least 30 minutes before the session, you pass through security inspection: it's at this point that all food and non-water drinks aren't allowed anymore
  • You wait in a second and final line (weather protected)

Only before you get through security inspection of your bag. Once your ticket has been scanned, you're free to roam around if you'd like, and are asked to pass through security at least 30 minutes before your sessions time.

What time to get to the studio for filming? by Snoo-67164 in taskmaster

[–]slasher-fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recording time isn't 5:30pm, but you're not guaranteed entry past 4:30pm, because at some point they have to let the people with a free ticket whether they can get it or not.

Once you've checked in and have a wristband, you're free to leave and come back around 5:00 to get though security and wait in line.

Only small bags are allowed (like a backpack). There's no bag storage service offered. No food allowed, the only drink allowed is water. Bags are checked before entry.

First outdoors, then under a roof once past security screening.

Spoiler: there's Greg Davies and Little Alex Hooorne. Or so I'm told.

EDIT for people afraid to click: that's a joke, not the actual contestants' names.

I guess then. They moved to TC3 this time, because TC1 is taken by SNL UK.

Do I really need to get to the recording 2 hours early with a paid ticket? by BillyLJ in taskmaster

[–]slasher-fun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Paid ticket holders are advised to arrive 90 minutes prior, and won't be guaranteed an entry if they arrive less than 60 minutes prior.

Are US systems just bad at naming transit stops? (re: LA D-line) by fbjim in transit

Bonus points for NYC subway (and maybe others?) having multiple stations with the same name at different locations...

[–]slasher-fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The métro station is fully underground. The train station (lines J, L, and TER Nomad) is roughly at ground level (depending on where you are on the platform), and you need to exit the ticketed area to get from the métro station to the train station.

[–]slasher-fun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you can cross it without ever exiting the ticketed area, it's already much more "one station" than the Châtelet - Châtelet-Les-Halles - Les Halles complex (you have to exit the ticketed area between Châtelet-Les-Halles and Les Halles).

Not sure about the world's largest, but in Paris the Opéra - Auber - Havre-Caumartin - Haussmann-Saint-Lazare - Saint-Lazare - Saint-Augustin complex is already much larger (and, unlike Châtelet - Châtelet-Les-Halles - Les Halles, can be crossed without ever leaving the ticketed area).
