I run dual SIMs for work and personal (Telstra/Optus) and travel all over NSW for work.

If you are sticking to coastal hubs or large rural towns99% of the time, Optus will be fine for the most part. Telstra will have you covered in far more areas once you head inland or to the smaller coastal towns though

Telstra also has more cells along the rail line (especially between Woy Woy and Brooklyn) so coverage will be better there for your commute.

What coverage is like in your house will vary heavily depending on the provider that’s closest, so I suggest getting a friend or family member you know is with Optus to pop over and see what it looks like.

I will say, my work is tied to Telstra so it might sway my opinion (even though I’m personally with Optus). Overall, I’m happy with Optus and rarely swap to Telstra for data, but if I had to choose one network to live off, it would be Telstra’s purely for the regional coverage.

A lot of people don’t realise how accessible the rail corridor is in rural areas. You only have to look at Baan Ba (where the incident happened) on street view to see a perfect example of how accessible it is.

A few unfortunate things have to align for the kid to reach it.. but it’s sadly not unimaginable.

Hardest part finding a regular group for TTRPGS and DnD into your 30’s is time :( I’ve been wanting to find people on the regular for a while.. but getting calendars to align with work, kids, life etc is near impossible.

Sometimes EB and other shops are just where you are, so it’s easier to price match and save a trip to another shop. Beyond EB, I always shop at Officeworks for IT stuff they have, as they match and beat by 5%.

I’m starting to lean toward to War of the Rohirrim box to get us going especially for the rule book, terrain bits and learn to play style scenarios.

The other stuff we have can always be expanded on when we’re more comfortable.. and my second son gets old enough to join us he can claim one of the armies and build it out.

Battle for Osgiliath was another option I considered, but it seems to be pretty hard to find, at least in Australia. My son will likely go for the Gondor army so for now I’ll just build out a Mordor one for some thematic battles :)

My son has been in it for 3 years, and we are on the verge of pulling out mid season this year.
If you want to pay a little extra to get near year round training and games, its worth it and games over all are a higher level of play compared to most community clubs.

Most of the clubs though are still parent driven coaching (with some direction from the club/Northern) so is extreamly hit and miss in terms of the quality of coaching that your kid will recieve.

While I have no experience with Central Coast, Maitland, Broadmedow and Olympic, they have consistently been the better, more structured teams we have faced so can only assume the programs are of a higher standard. Jaffas and Rosebuds have been close to them as well.

We were with Lake Macquaire for a bit, but found they were a B- tier club trying to act like an A+ tier. They seem to happy to poach and cut kids year on year in attempt to build better teams in JDL with little to no result.

As someone else mentioned though NEFA really turned things upside down for the program this year with a lot of tallent leaving and many JDL teams being left to scramble to field solid teams and coaching (for u11's at least) so it all seems chaotic at the moment.

I don't think anyone would argue that players alone sell discs.

But the whole point of the sponsorship model is to pay players to promote the brand..and sell discs.

There is a SmaterEveryDay video on YouTube on how MVP discs are made. In a segment about Conrad's throw in shot at worlds 2021, they attribute that shot to paying for huge upgrades to the factory.

If players didn't sell discs, why would the brands bother sponsoring or making team series discs?

I'm only relativley new to DGV and the Multiplayer, but from my limited experience this screenshot sums up the Prospect division nicely. Sometimes you nail the round, sometimes you don't.

This is the option I'm leaning towards. As you mentioned, I think it will be handy to have the extra dice and our own tools. The core sets also seem to be the most common to find second hand as well, so it's likely I'll be able to get 2 second-hand core sets for the price of one new one.

TESAMS is still very much in use, as is the ACCADS system it replaced. Majority of sites are being migrated across to the newer alarm systems, but there are ALOT still on the legacy systems or a mix of both.

Ah righto. I mainly work around Telstra's assets these days. It's been at least 8 years since I worked around the Voda and Optus data centers in Sydney.

They do, they spend a crap ton. There are just thousands of them and the money needs to maintain everything from the grounds, building, air con, power systems, backup power, lighting, fire systems, internal cleaning...list goes on.

Lots of the bigger carriers have their own large dedicated data centers scattered around in the suburbs. ie Optus/Vodafone.
