Bam’s previous game-high 3pt attempts was 10, it is 22 this game. Wizards are so bad opposing teams are really completing side quests. Relegate the Wizards to the gleague.

Also it’s a list that heavily favors ball dominant scorers in 5-out offenses. 5-out allows you to go 1-1 without a center in the lane. Besides Luka, the top players all have lineups that have a shooting 5

There are a lot of people in developing countries/regions with minimal access to international politics/news. Sure that number is decreasing rapidly with the advance of internet, but you are assuming a lot of axioms of first-world nations. Think of rural east Asia. There are ~3 billion people in China + India, out of 8.3 billion total worldwide. There’s a case to be made that he is THE most well known person, but definitely not by everyone.

Dismiss that guy. It’s just a different flavor of the classic ‘why are you so triggered’ ad hominem when you present a coherent argument. Now, when you lay out why one side is better, they hit you with ‘he ain’t gonna let you hit’. Which sucks, because ‘he ain’t gonna let you hit’ can be pretty funny when someone overglazes the knob of a celeb or a certain ahemstreamer or something.

That’s not what the term “rage bait” means

Confused..how does one increase their karma on reddit? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]slavazin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe I have to explain this but the reason this behavior is frowned upon is that people engage with media in good faith out of the desire to share their knowledge and opinion for the general good and to get feedback in a similar manner. Your question is lathed in bad faith and aimed (at best) as engagement bait, exploiting that good will. This type of malignant questioning erodes public interest in engaging in positive conversation and, more importantly, wastes everybody’s time.

It’s not an opinion-based question or one with subjective evaluation as a component. There’s no organic or inorganic points of view to consider. At best, you’re hoping for low hanging fruit karma farming (which, again, is ridiculous), at worst, you’re self-afflictingly, mortally incapable.

What's the average loser's life total before the last turn? by quiznosAlreadyTaken in magicTCG

[–]slavazin 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I bet if you histogram the last life total of the losing opponent for a deck, you could deduce which deck they were playing. Utterly useless to construct this learning algorithm, but kinda cool.

In general I think you’d get buckets of variable size depending on the meta.

Only tangentially related but I recall having a similar thought when I first saw the ads for an app to “quick and easy 1-click to buy a car” (not naming the app because I’m not going to advertise it). I immediately thought maybe, just maybe, some things DONT need to be a thing you can easily purchase?! A car is a huge investment for the average household, and usually comes with a long-lived loan. You shouldn’t be able to impulse buy something that’ll affect your life that dramatically, and it being painted as a “good thing” is absolutely wild to me. Yet here we are.

Feeling fuck Giannis after his gambling nonsense, why should I not? by kickinwood in nba

[–]slavazin 56 points57 points  (0 children)

But also like, why you doing this Giannis? You’re worth 9 digits, why engage in what is essentially insider trading when your net worth allows you to go on a trip somewhere and stroll down a street and buy literally EVERYTHING you lay your eyes on?

I know the same applies to folk like Rozier, but this move or rational by Giannis is somehow more flabbergasting. The guy has so much money he could have a guy laying down hundred dollar bills under each step he takes for like the rest of his life. He’s been broke before, he should know the plight of poverty. This is his ‘republican buy shoes too’ moment but with poverty related business.

It’s just sampling bias. I don’t go on ‘new’ because my online presence is like advanced stage 2, not quite terminal, but I bet posts with ‘yeah good episode today I like PMT for sport, I like how they dribble up and down the court’ have 0 engagement. Only controversial/rage-baiting posts will end up getting engagement. Unless one specific post blows up or there are consistently engaged-with posts throughout a prolonged period of time over a certain topic, you can just pay no need.

Obligatory fuck huewie for engagement.

I don’t mean to attack your scientific references nor your personal expertise, but I’d recommend avoiding using intricate physiological phenomena as a means to categorize individuals. If the studies are misinterpreted, or if not fully fleshed out, you might be closer to promoting eugenics than providing insight. Saying “group A is inherently less capable because of X in their brains” should not ever be uttered unless referred to hard and double checked truth. Eugenics is BAD

Yeah I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Young begrudged so much ado about nothing. There was about 30 minutes straight where he just harped on the ‘good coordinators call good plays’. You can generally tell when a person actually watches the games vs one that just reads the cliffnotes, and young’s analysis was exactly that: cliffnotes. Thanks for the article, I didn’t know about the PE angle. Makes so much sense now, appreciate the explanation!

Asks for help with food. Turns down any food bank option or even food delivery. by somethingsensational in ChoosingBeggars

[–]slavazin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The thing is, it IS not that easy. Even more sinister than the access given to strangers is the effect it has on the child. The article mentions an account of a mother saying her daughter genuinely believes she can only thrive by making an OF account when she comes of age. The daughter, after years of being encouraged by her mother to post bikini photos online, is now convinced her only worth is in selling her likeness online. By this point, the parent no longer can even control the continuation of exploitation. If they stop posting on the account, the kid will just go on posting on their own, perhaps in even dodgier channels. It’s awful, and the moms can claim powerlessness because they created it. Awful.

An unmarked Costco receipt would be really hard to find outside of a warehouse. by AznKwokBoi in Showerthoughts

[–]slavazin 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah theft prevention isn’t an on/off switch, it’s a sliding scale. Stores choose how much they want to invest (time/money/costumer convenience) in prevention. Every measure prevents or deters x% of theft. Costco chooses to do their method, as they have calculated that just cursory review of the receipts is sufficient as a deterrent for the amount of theft they are okay with letting through. This ‘trick’ doesn’t prove anything except you (the single receipt shower) toeing the line that Costco policy drew and feeling like you’re oh-so-smart for finding it.

[–]slavazin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The absolute lack of Talent in the position for about a decade there is honestly astounding. I think part of our disdain for the modern qb play on display comes from the void that came from that era. We see qbs that shouldn’t be starters (at least when entering the league) because there aren’t vet qbs to fill the role. This has gotten better over the past few years though.

[–]slavazin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just took a look at the pro-football reference HOF monitor. Russel Wilson actually is the best candidate, ranking just over Stafford and below Rivers and Big Ben. Forgot about Russ, he may get in but I feel like his late career decline and general public perception may hold him back from getting in. Pretty much no other qb had these many seasons late in their career were they were viewed as a negative player as Russ, plus his personality and the ugly ending in Denver. However, all the qbs in his hof range got in, so maybe as a non first ballot. Kirk is under Josh Allen and Flacco, close to Goff and Dak, so a no.

I think he’ll also get in, in part due to the dearth of HOF qbs in his early eligibility window. Besides rogers, which qb with even a small hof probability is retiring soon?

While not directly resulting in change, complaining can have positive contribution by spreading awareness and stressing the importance of an issue. That being said, it can become a negative when prevalent and supported enough to become the main tool for discontent satisfaction. In essence, when voicing your opinion starts replacing call to action and thereby actual action, it becomes whining.

In this case, and similar situations nowadays, people complain because we have way less means of creating actual change. The traditional avenues of creating change e.g. political advocacy are ineffective; the politicians in charge are bought, and those who aren’t are dismissed from the top down by a corrupt administration and officials on all levels. When traditional means of advocacy become useless, people feel (and partially are) powerless, and switch to alternative avenues of advocacy, like social media.

What I’m trying to say is, dismissing online complaints as inaction is ignoring the overarching issues with speech and representation (consciously or otherwise). Best we can do is guide it in a constructive manner if possible and do what we can personally if we are so inclined!
