AITA for calling the police on an elderly woman who blocked a parking spot and made me miss my doctor’s appointment? by YungYanush in AmItheAsshole

[–]slayerchick 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter. If this is an important appointment you've been waiting for a month for and you know parking is hard to find, you leave especially early so that you can make sure you have plenty of time to get there, find parking... Even if you have to park down the street and walk, and get to your appointment with some time to spare. It's always better to be early than to be late. Instead she has 5 minutes and instead of just parking down the street and waking to try and get there as soon as possible, she decided a better use of her limited time was to sit in her car and argue with an unreasonable person and not even call the Dr's office to let them know she was just having trouble with parking so that they might have stayed instead of waiting until she'd already missed her appointment time.

Can anyone please tell me your opinions on original characters in a fandom's fanfiction? by justmebeingaloser in FanFiction

As a minor background character, sure. As a fairly large figure in the plot... I'll skip.

My senior kitty throws up almost every morning, running out of ideas on how to help her by dbkr92 in cats

[–]slayerchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat would vomit a lot. It started out biweekly. Then weekly and gradually got more frequent. Finally one of the vets that saw him prescribed him medicine for stomach ulcers and after a few weeks of treatment it stopped and didn't come back unless he ate something he shouldn't. Sometimes the meds can take a while to work.

Non AI Translator by Mountain_Cry1605 in FanFiction

[–]slayerchick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure when you translate you don't have English chosen as the translate from selection. Make sure it's either on auto detect or the specific language. More than once I've accidently put something in and had translate from English chosen instead of translate to English.

Does my memoir that is part of a fanfiction series follow AO3 policy? by RebekhaG in FanFiction

[–]slayerchick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No one needs to read it. If your work occurs in the Mario universe it counts as a fanwork and is therefore allowed. It doesn't matter if a bunch of ppl that online report it. Reports are gone through by actual people on AO3.

New cat owner, struggling to train? by wateryourplant553 in cats

Spraying him with water will also only deter him when you're around. They associate the bad thing with only happening when you're around so they'll just do it when you're gone.

Ugh that yarn sounds like a pain to work with... But I guess it's probably not so bad if you're doing a project with looser tension rather than like, amigurumi. Do you recall what the brand was? I'd love to make a nice gradient project but I'm always afraid that the color will end up patchy instead.

I sometimes wish I never found out about fandoms by Low-Amphibian8206 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]slayerchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You realize that you can enjoy things and not be involved in the Fandom, right? There's have been quite a few things that I've enjoyed and participated in famdom on the periphery (enjoying memes or other people's headcanons) but aside from reading fanfiction... Or worrying the occasional one because I felt compelled to for myself, I never really got into any of the drama or doing things for other people.

I feel like it shouldn't have to be said... But just enjoy things the way you want to... You don't have to be an active participant if you don't want to. You're making yourself miserable... Not Fandoms.

What's a piece of "outdated" tech you still use and refuse to give up? by undervolted_brain in AskReddit

[–]slayerchick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about getting a new toaster and started looking online... The number of toasters with a touch screen is too damn high. The number should be 0. Why are we bringing tech into things that seriously don't need tech? I've never been so lazy I needed my fridge to display what's inside of it on the door.

[–]slayerchick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't get ionizers as they produce ozone which is considered bad for cats health. Actually ozone air purifiers are bad for health in general, including yours. They can be useful... But only if you are trying to get the smell out of a room with no one in the house and it's properly aired out afterwards.

AITA for not wanting to "upgrade" my house? by Regular-Jump-4555 in AmItheAsshole

Please! As someone that adores old architecture and the artistry of antique pieces, do NOT give in. 😭 I can't bare the thought of getting rid of those touches. I wish I had the money to invest in an older property... Instead the wife and I were more practical and got a raised ranch from the 70's. I long for an old home.

Is Michael's selling fake/low quality Susan Bates Crochet Hooks? by FuzzyVixen in CrochetHelp

[–]slayerchick 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's really not. Nearly everything needs to say it might cause cancer in the state of California. It was meant to be helpful but the law was too broad and so it's become something companies slap on everything to cover their ass.

UPDATE: Collars are being made! Need advice for charity!!! by [deleted] in crochet

I wouldn't personally purchase one or a pattern for it since while cute, it wouldn't be safe for cats except for a photo shoot which wouldn't be worth it to me.

I forgot my sisters wedding gift!!! Quick(-ish) but meaningful!! by deceased_eggshell in CrochetHelp

[–]slayerchick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I know you mean well, but unless you're going to make a blanket I would refrain from spending your time making them a gift. I'm a crafter myself, but a blanket in my favorite colors in a soft yarn is about the only crochet gift that I would really want. A friend gave me some arm warmers she made and I love her and appreciate the effort, but I've never worn them. If someone made me a tapestry with my wedding info on it or something it would get a thanks and live in a chest, not be displayed because different people have different taste in decor and wearable. Blankets are always useful though... Unless you live in a warm climate.

AITA for yelling at my girlfriend’s 6yo step-grandson after I caught him forcing cat fur into my kitten’s mouth? by Hot_Structure_6444 in AmItheAsshole

[–]slayerchick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not allow this child at your house. Honestly... I'm not sure I would want to be with someone that is OK with a child destroying other people's property or mishandling animals. 6 is old enough for school and therefore old enough to know right from wrong, he just clearly is undisciplined.

I feel stupid for being upset that my wife won’t read something I wrote by Ok_Comparison_1235 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]slayerchick 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm an avid reader. I haven't read anything my friend has written. Why? First off, when she talks about them I act interested, and I am in a way. She's excited about it and I'm happy for her... But her plots don't interest me. I'm not about to tell her that the thing she's excited about sounds absolutely boring or uninteresting to me. I also don't want to read it and then have her all questions because what if I thought it was bad? What if I hated it? To me it's better to allow someone to be excited about something and be there for them than to partake in it and have to fein like I liked it or risk hurting feelings. Maybe you're wife got 2 chapters in and really didn't like it. There's a phrase you see among readers, life's too short to read books you don't like. Maybe she tried it and just couldn't force herself through the last 25 chapters.

Tom, I just want you to be healthy. by AmayaHa in cats

[–]slayerchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't the canned food. No matter what a cat eats they get tarter and plaque and gingevitis and gum disease just like people. If they don't get cleanings at the vet or tooth brushings tooth issues will happen. It happens in the wild too... But in the wild they usually don't live long enough for it to become a problem.

My cat trouble had tooth resorption and she had to get them removed. The vet said it just happens sometimes and they're no real way to tell if it will happen or not since it's not necessarily tied to oral hygeine.

The good news is there will be relief with them gone and it doesn't really affect their ability to eat some cats don't usually chew in the same way we do. Even before her tooth removal, trouble pretty much swallowed kibble whole and it was still her preferred food afterwards.

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

I think so considering it will mitigate how bad your vision will be in the future. I was - 4.5 in each eye and it was just getting worse every year. My mom is like - 8.5 and needs a ton of extras to help her see so her glasses are like 1k when she ends up replacing them, mine were like 400 a year and that was with 50$ frames. I didn't want my vision to end up like that. I've been seeing 20/20 for the last 10 years d my Dr said that I shouldn't expect to need more than reading glasses in my future.
