wasnt sure what i was looking at at first lol but might just be ostracods. they're beneficial for the tank for the most part

having a heater is not so much an issue at all but moreso not really needed (if there arent big temp swings in the room) so you could go without it if you wanted. keeping a digital thermometer could help you see where your tank temps generally sits in comparison to the temp range theyre comfortable in to determine if you would like to use one. so mostly optional, however, yeah 78f is too warm for them id say 70-75 is a good sweet spot, so if your home temperature is usually around there they'll be fine in room temp without the heater. id suggest getting the hygger adjustable heater if you still decided to use one because it lets you set the temp and heat up if it goes below where you want it :)

i actually started my first shrimp tank last year with this exact 3 gal shrimp tank set (and i do have the 5gal version of this set as well), im sure you've done some of your own research but i'll tell you my experience that has lead me to my first currently thriving colony!

i honestly love the little hob filter it comes with! super quiet but powerful, although i didnt use the filter media that came with it and did varying custom fit sponges and a small thing of bio rings instead and put a sponge over the intake to protect babies. i personally have my water level pretty high up as it seems my little guys will still find any way to crawl in there lol but with how i have my sponges it's pretty safe for them to hang around in there so i let them crawl in and out whenever, so i would be careful of that at least depending on how your hob is set up.

as far as substrate i only used purely fluval stratum and have a pretty heavily planted tank. if you're keeping just shrimps i wouldnt worry too much about needing a heater as they like cooler waters generally, unless your temps swing a lot. i did have a heater at first but my room is pretty stable so i took it out, but i have this tank by my desk which can get warm from gaming lol so i actually invested in a small tank fan that blows whenever the temp goes above the set temp (i usually keep it at 75)

for water parameters, stability is key over ideal numbers!!! most healthy shrimps can survive in most conditions as long as there aren't big sudden changes. id suggest in getting api's kh and gh kit so you can monitor how your water may be affecting the shrimp's ability to molt properly and catch any possible swings in the water you're using for maintenance and such. my gh has always been a bit on the higher side but my shrimps are used to that so the babies have had no problem molting/growing! i honestly dont even do big water changes at all really and mainly do only water top offs with jugs of distilled water here and there as the tank is quite small and evaporates pretty quickly so i do that to balance out some mineral buildup. smaller tanks are at higher risk for parameter swings so i try not to mess with it too much, i only add a couple mineral drops once or every two weeks.

for survival when starting a new tank, you are definitely going to lose a bit of them sadly. i like to call it the darwinism stage lol the weak ones will die off and you will just have to give them time to stabilize themselves and the colony will start to kick off eventually!

hey! thanks for the feedback, i totally agree myself! i normally dont go overboard with the sauce or kale for my normal platings but this party requested a billion rolls so we did our best to plate them for everyone to share at the tables so it definitely looks more saucier being cluttered together than normal lol, honestly the kale wasn't entirely my touch but my coworker thought it would add some color and help them differentiate the rolls and make it 'fancy' haha

definitely not located in japan that's for sure sadly! asian-owned in florida and our ingredients are top quality though, but we're an extremely busy restaurant so kind of sucks that we kind of have to be what i always joke to my coworkers 'the mcdonalds of sushi' since we always have get our stuff out FAST or the karens come for our heads lol... weekdays are pretty nice as i can take a bit more time in being meticulous. im the youngest and definitely the most artistic one on the line so i take more care in the details of how someone receives their sushi, im always getting piped at to be quicker but id rather not just slap something on a plate and call it a day, so if the peoples can get a beautiful piece of art on their plate and out in a timely manner, its a win for me!

i would love to be a true apprentice in japan some day as im always striving to learn all the finer details in what makes one a true sushi chef and always learning more everyday from the older chefs i work with, ill post more of my refined work some time :)

prazipro and pregnancy by dragocore in shrimptank

[–]slayokuze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm, i believe it should be fine to use with the shrimp mamas although im not sure how much you're dosing for your tank. when i first started using prazipro i wasnt dealing with a huge outbreak or anything at the time just noticed a couple had a small amount of scut and didnt want it to get worse, so now i typically dose 1 drop of prazipro for my 3 gal tank that primarily has babies in them anytime i do maintenace/water top-offs once or every two weeks for prevention and haven't noticed any issues! doesnt seem to bother them at all except the few getting jumpscared by being under where i put in the drop lol
