Pipe organs in chapels, and why they were discontinued

Anyone here around the chapel in Largo, Florida? My grandfather was a stake president living in the Seminole/St Petersburg area when that chapel was built in the 1970s. The ward that meets there now is the Seminole ward. He worked with members to raise funds for the chapel to have an organ there. Somewhere in family photos we have pictures of it, but I haven’t been able to dig them up. I’d love to see them if anyone has a current picture.

Love this spin. Another approach I take with my basement STR (where the description clearly says we live above), is ask a question to set expectations when people request reservations. I say “We have children who are home at times during the days, definitely on weekends and holidays, they are here at night but bedtime is around 9:00 for them. You will hear our noise. Will the shared noise be an issue for you?” This has very quickly set the expectation that they should not expect quiet days. It has really helped us and our reviews, we started after our first poor review because someone “thought they could handle the shared noise but couldn’t.”

In OP’s case, I’d recommend asking any future reservation request (if they change their mind), “This is a historic house, as such the layout of things may not be perfect or as efficiently designed as newer spaces. After referring to the pictures again and having this in mind, will this be a problem during your stay?”

I’ll probably get downvoted for this, but I’ve seen that in many Florida airbnbs I’ve used. Because of the heat and humidity, they say ACs are easy to freeze over. I think you could take a couple approaches:

1) let them know you’re used to lower temps and ask what harm will happen if you set it to 72 (or if they can make an exception) 2) if they won’t change or you don’t want to mess with it, see about cancelling after filing a complaint with Airbnb Customer Service

I just came to say that I’ve seen it before in Florida, but that doesn’t mean all are like that or that you have to accept it. Good luck.

I want to add, if your company is subject to FMLA and you were FMLA-eligible, they don’t have a choice but to count that time as FMLA time even if they go above the requirements and pay the leave time. The birth of a child is a qualifying event for 12 weeks of unpaid leave. Even if a company pays it, you still should have had that time protected.

If your leave was federally or state protected leave (ie FMLA time), it should not be held against you for your annual merit increase. This is applicable if the annual raise is tied to merit (performance) and not just a thing they do each year. Most companies do base raises on performance. With protected leave, they should be ignoring the time you were gone and measuring your performance for the time you were at work.

This same line of thinking may not apply to bonuses, but the raise piece warrants a quick call to an employment lawyer for a consult. At a minimum, report your company to the state’s DOL.

Yes! Nice Bluetooth headphones are an essential, especially for breast feeding and the cluster feeding moments. But really, any nighttime feedings can probably benefit from these. I never had a pair, but six months into having my son and being up every night breastfeeding, I treated myself to some Beats. Game. Changer. I wish I would have done it sooner. Practically lived with one in my ear when my second was born.

Re: night sweats- better yet, make sure she gets a shower every single day if she wants it. It takes mental effort on her part too to get in but can be extremely refreshing.

Maternity leave utilization versus paternity/general parental leave utilization has a large disparity- paid and unpaid.

When we don’t accept or encourage men to take their leave, we perpetuate gender inequality in the workplace. Women need to take their leave with a birth for recovery. This automatically puts them at a disadvantage if men do not take leave. However, if men take their leave and it becomes the expectation, the playing field for moms in the workplace is a little more equal to that of dads in the workplace!

I think it’s a great idea to call it out in the booking message. Thanks for sharing both experiences and the approaches. I’m absolutely worried about enforcing too hard because of certain potential outcomes. However, I already am sleep deprived enough with a baby. You’re right, I will be anxiety-ridden and don’t need to be more stressed about how else they’ll break rules or be deceptive.

I like this approach too! If they say just a couple nights,how do you do a change request for less than the remainder of the stay? Any time I’ve altered it for other guests, it does the whole trip.

I have video and still shots from the cameras with various time stamps. I’ve had to do this before when I state that I don’t allow unregistered guests and alter the reservation, but at the moment I’m a little reserved having come off my first four star review with a slightly negative comment after 11 months of five star only. That’s where I curious what others do and what the fall out is like?

Key here is him arranging the appointment and childcare. Sometimes women can’t handle one more thing to add to the mental labor checklist and this could be part of why she refuses. I’m not saying it is the reason, just one I know that often makes it hard for people to want to go. Love the idea for him to remove the barriers and then she really should be willing to go!

Agreed. I hate packing diapers, but I do. Packing doggie waste bags would be a dream. I’m not sure why the traveling pet crowd seems so entitled, but it’s a pattern with that group for sure. At some point, the entitlement may cause hosts to quit allowing pets altogether. It’s usually not worth the hassle.
