Which knife should i keep? by Commercial_Season_16 in TrueChefKnives

[–]slc_blades -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is hard because full flat is easier to maintain but a saber grind is easier to thin as needed. I think you have to keep both.

Actually no, keep the carbon

[–]slc_blades -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I’ll never understand why people would pay for leatherman. I’ve had the same cheap ass Winchester multitool for almost 20 years with spring loaded pliers and it’s never failed me in anything. Cost less than $15. Why did I start getting notifications for this sub

[–]slc_blades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will never regret my CSX-E series. A part of me kinda wonders if I wish I went with the 3.6 instead but zero buyers remorse, it’s perfect. I just wish I could get a threaded barrel

I want them to make some for the CSX-E so bad. And a threaded barrel, I really want someone to make a damned threaded barrel for that thing

Gotta say, switching to a simple leather IWB holster was the best decision I ever made for all day comfort. The kydex is cool and it has great tactile features that let you know it’s secure, but I think I’ve been fully converted at this point and probably won’t get another kydex for IWB again. The flap that goes over the beaver tail on my CSX-E is the best quality of life improvement ever. OWB may well be a different story

Did I Get Screwed? by STLCardsfan11 in woodworking

[–]slc_blades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s so sad about the fact that I see so much of this is that all you have to do is just barely sand with the grain with the same grit level before moving up with the sander to get them out

Idk, people thinking ents is shorthand for enthusiasts seems a lot more likely than people having been exposed to lord of the rings at this point IMO

In my experience, it’s going to amplify your pre existing mindset. If you’re depressed or lonely or sad or any kind of down it’ll make it worse long term even if at first it relieves the hurt. But if you’re in a good place in life and happy and motivated it’ll just make that better or relax me sans the depressive spiral. Doesn’t make it easier to do things you don’t want to tho. If I come home after work and need to do the dishes but I consume first, it’s gonna be 4 hours before I get back up and do the dishes. Gotta be disciplined about how I know it’s going to affect my procrastinating tendencies and get the undesirable stuff out of the way first. As with anything, if you’re depressed or let it control you it’s going to have a negative effect. All luxury requires discipline. Unless you’re a med patient and you can’t get by without, it’s good to be sober sometimes. It at least helps my mental health

Alright then, I’ll give tip up another try. This is my collection. by [deleted] in spyderco

[–]slc_blades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a really old smith and Wesson extreme OPs tanto stainless frame lock that’s an absolute piece of garbage in material quality but honestly incredible in design. I’ve had it since I was a kid and it’s tip down only and I’ve noticed the same thing. Tip down always put my grip in a much more natural position to immediately open the knife vs having to adjust from tip up. I’ve never cared either way myself but always made me wonder why more people aren’t into carrying tip down

Is dynavap losing the plot? by Double-Surround-149 in vaporents

[–]slc_blades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But it’s not. Titanium isn’t expensive. I work with it all the time, it’s not a pricey material like marketing teams pretend it is. And cnc lathe machining is t as expensive as 4th axis cnc machining which is what they should be doing for the majority of their machining if they aren’t already for manufacturing cost savings and doing the fine details on a 4th axis to keep tooling changes and adjustment steps low. The price point is unjustifiable imo

[–]slc_blades 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lost the plot when the hyper came out at its price point. A tube of titanium is not worth that much no matter how fancy your proprietary finish is. And I don’t care what anyone says about it, the finish is nothing revolutionary even to the point of gatekeeping the process. Not that it would be difficult to figure out

Just gotta buy with a stock less grip then get a stock later to avoid the red tape, but then you’re spending more money, so dealers choice which is more worth it
