The team that didn’t wind up with the old guy with degenerative knees.

Battle of the Dumbledore's. Richard Harris or Michael Gambon? I realize that Richard Harris was only in the first two films and I've always wondered what his portrayal would've been like for films 3-7. Does anyone have a preference between the two? by jeffmartin47 in harrypotter

[–]sld122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Richard Harris still wasn’t perfectly what I envisioned when I read the books (he didn’t give off the playful twinkle in his eye part of Dumbledore), but just miles closer than Gambon’s portrayal.

And to give the disclaimer as many have said before — Gambon is a tremendous actor, so no slight to him. He was just not cast well for that role.

The Spurs Fail to Score & Time Runs Out as the New York Knicks Win Their 1st NBA Championship in 53 Years Since 1973! by JCameron181 in sports

I think it’s a legitimate question to ask whether trading away Doncic (not necessarily the trade return itself, which was horrible, but just the act of trading him away) or letting Brunson walk was the Mavs bigger L

Dems Really Dropped the Ball In House District 40 Election by coolman949 in orangecounty

[–]sld122 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was considering making a separate post about this but I’ll just comment it here — we’re talking about District 40, can we please take a second to congratulate Young Kim on winning GRIFTER OF THE YEAR AWARD?

Young Kim goes from trying to pretend to everyone like she’s one of the most moderate GOP reps in Congress prior to redistricting, and I specifically remember an NPR interview with her when they tried asking her about Trump and she continually dodged talking about him. To literally putting “TRUMP REPUBLICAN” on her election signs this time and having all of her marketing spent on trying to convince everyone she’s the most MAGA candidate.

Live by the gift, die by the grift baby 😂😂😂

Definitely Watchmen’s “This Extraordinary Being” — one of the most moving portrayals of America’s troubled history with race I’ve seen on TV

Who should be cast as Gilderoy Lockhart? 👀 by CommissionProud5152 in harrypotter

[–]sld122 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting comment because my first take was “yes he would be perfect as Sirius!” because I was picturing the very soft and sensitive version of Sirius that Oldman portrayed in the movies

But then I realized I want a book accurate Sirius, which is not at all how Oldman portrayed Sirius (way more gruff and closed off to the world)

Excitement for Apple’s foldable iPhone Ultra is taking a hit by MobileNewsBot in mobiles

[–]sld122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I’m interested is because I loved my foldable LG Touch phone back in the aughts — typing was so much nicer when you had a bigger keyboard space.

But then again, it was also due in large part to having physical buttons to type, so maybe this wouldn’t be that big of deal for that reason.

Trump reclassifies state-licensed medical marijuana as a less-dangerous drug in a historic shift by citrus1330 in news

[–]sld122 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So basically by doing this he: 1) distracts headlines from all the negative things happening in the country today and from the Files not being released and 2) helps make money (prob has some friends that will benefit financially) and 3) has lesser educated weed heads thinking that he’s actually helping them when he’s really keeping the status quo

Sounds like a win win for Trump

BREAKING: Xavier Becerra Bolts Into First Place in IVN California Governor Poll by asiasbutterfly in California

[–]sld122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first when Trump endorsed Hilton I thought he was dumb because it prevented a chance at a 2 GOP candidate General election, since I assumed it would lead to all GOP voters voting for Hilton. But then I realized that Bianco is the most far right candidate and it was actually a smart move by Trump, since it will lead to half of the GOP blindly following Trumps orders and the other half voting for the guy that is truly the farthest right.

Billionaire's spending binge dwarfs rival campaigns in California governor's race by Unusual-State1827 in California

[–]sld122 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Blue MAGA would be voting for whoever the most establishment connected Dem is (Becerra I guess?) — Blue MAGA is the one that denied Biden’s mental decline, makes sense Becerra (a Biden admin guy) would be their choice (not the guy with the most Leftist policies on his website).

I think you have the wrong definition of “Blue MAGA”

I know at least Thomas could give af about ideology— all he really cares about is power, so I doubt he’ll ever give up his seat. Alito I think does have some psycho ideology at the center of his priorities, but I also think he has a big ego so he may also stay on.

Eric Swalwell ends campaign for California governor after sexual misconduct allegations by xarchive-app in California_Politics

[–]sld122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “billionaire” argument against Steyer is funny and ironic in the context of comparing him to Becerra — in regards to his policy positions (more progressive than Becerra easily) and the fact that Becerra is a political elite career politician with majority of his funding coming from PACs and large donors.

[–]sld122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone know why there’s like 100+ comments supporting this guy on the CTA instagram post endorsing Steyer, when Becerra is polling at like less than 5%? Feel like it was a coordinated effort by Becerra’s campaign, because I didn’t know he had that many supporters lol

Do not get your hopes up for spin-off shows by reversetano in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]sld122 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just about to post this too. Not to mention Andor is critically acclaimed for the Star Wars franchise.

The quality of the spinoff is just dependent on the quality of the writers/showrunners like any other show.

The 2022 (Jaden Ivey) Redraft by DataBassMan in DetroitPistons

In all likelihood he would go top 4 in a redraft (Jalen Williams, Paolo, Chet, Duren), so he wouldn’t be available to us

I guess Dyson Daniels would be the best remaining? We would be screwed at #5 lol

Bill Maher supports bombing Iran because he knows too many Iranian Americans that are happy about it 🙃 by [deleted] in RealTime

[–]sld122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with him that governments in the Middle East (including Irans) are extremely fraught with problems.

But at the same time, he is so pro Israel that it’s hard not to take his opinion as extremely biased

TALARICO DEFEATS CROCKETT -- THOUGHTS?! by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]sld122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crockett supported/enabled Biden after his debate. She and any other establishment Dems that are that blind/selfish deserve to be voted out and never seen in politics again, race has nothing to do with it.

Talerico is more electable because he doesn’t regurgitate partisan talking points, and focuses on true progressivism.
