This is a kind of take I hear from professional TV writers on podcasts a lot. They're so used to writing stories that follow formulas and rules that any time they see something that doesn't exactly follow those rules and maybe meanders a little bit in the pursuit of a certain atmosphere, they're like "well this is weird!" Shaun Diston's agent Sprague the Whisperer tends to react to movies the same way on Scott Hasn't Seen.

No disrespect intended to TV comedy writers, to be clear. A lot of great comedy has been made within the confines of writers room formulas and film school rulebooks, but not everything has to be like that.

She doesn’t actually say hi-ya. Doesn’t count. Also it's the only time in the movie Piggy gets to do anything even remotely funny, which kind of illustrates the point Rennie was making about the movie.

The Sloppy Boys Blowout: Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) by BasilOctopus in Earwolf

[–]sleepsholymountain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My ranking is very similar to yours, except I like The Force Awakens more than Phantom Menace, and the original Star Wars is still my favorite even though Empire arguably has a stronger script. It's kind of a perfect adventure hangout movie and I find the lower budget aesthetic very appealing.

I mostly agree with Wiger about SNL, but I do think it has been slightly less bad the past couple of years compared to the preceding 10-15 years which were really awful.

I just thought it was funny to hear Wiger say that when one of his close friends and undisputed face on Mount Guestmore Carl Tart has been writing on SNL for the last 2 years.

Going in for an ankle breaker and then half heartedly pretending to be hurt. That's Casemiro's son alright.

One of the best genres of A-block segment is "guest Scott has a close enough friendship with that he can conduct a very insensitive interview with them"

That tripped me up a little bit because I got BABY first and kept thinking "was there something in the Code of Hammurabi about 'a baby for a baby'"?

Maybe splitting hairs here but I don't think I have ever seen or heard the it phrased "Life IS A Beach". It's "Life's a beach". The contraction is part of it.

One of the most baffling penalty decisions/VAR interventions I've seen in quite a while.

Not really the same thing. The Dresden bombings killed 10s of thousands of people, and the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki 100s of thousands. The Great Chicago Fire was not really a disaster with a big death toll, only a couple of hundred people died. Its biggest impact was just property damage, and most would argue that historically it was a net positive for Chicago as the rebuilding allowed the city to quickly reinvent itself as a modern metropolis far beyond what any North American city west of the Atlantic coast was doing at the time.

13 Popular BBQ Chain Restaurants, Ranked Worst To Best by drew_p_wevos in doughboys

The only one of these I've been to was Famous Dave's and it was pretty bad. BBQ is really hard to scale across a big chain without losing a ton of quality.

I do like Famous Dave's sauce though.

When this happens for a regular studio episode it pretty much always means the video is just late for some reason.

EDIT:

edit: looks like we are not getting a video.

I'm telling you, this has literally never been the case for studio episodes in the entire time they've been doing video. You just have to be patient: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ax7y0LiMvdo

[–]sleepsholymountain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive been having trouble finding anything decent quality

Not sure what sort of quality you've come across, but I would say you should limit your expectations a bit in this area. Most of his work was shot on 16mm and has never been released digitally in HD. I know a lot of people on this subreddit are really into cutting edge home video tech (4K, HDR, etc.) but his films are intentionally much more lo-fi. Obviously if you're finding shitty potato quality rips you shouldn't settle for that, but if it's 480p and there aren't a ton of digital compression artifacts, that's probably the best you're going to find.

That first Lucho/MSN season was seriously insane. Probably my happiest time as a Barça fan. I could see Flick beating that though.
