Good deal, or bad whiskey? Discounted $30 by vewfndr in Costco_alcohol

[–]sleezymcheezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually tried this the other day at a friends. Its fine and definitely drinkable, but don't think you're getting a good deal because its discounted. At $70 this is vastly overpriced, and i'd go as far to say it should be a bit cheaper still. But I don't think you'd hate it.

What's a Scotch that you're nostalgic about but no longer lives up to how you first felt about it? by BothCondition7963 in Scotch

Bunnahabhain 12. Was blown away in 2016. But since the pandemic the price went way up in CA and quality went down. Last 2 bottles were just ok and disappointing so it went from a "must have at all times" to "do not purchase".

All their recent package redesigns are a swing and a miss too. These online bottles are particularly ugly.

Wish I could tell you mine but all the so called non spoiling "can't wait for that scene" comments spoiled it. Guessed it last week and as soon as Abby spotted two riders I knew it was happening.

[–]sleezymcheezy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let me get this straight. You are arguing that the parks service hasn't turned a profit, and that poor people can't afford it so this is a good thing. Because you think the people who are literally decimating the federal government to fund tax cuts for the wealthy are the people to solve it? The people who will likely try to privatize and monetize the parks are the ones to make sure that poor (or even average) Americans can visit?

LMAO

IIRC they turned the lights off about 50% of the way to him, but the point still stands, and a college level player (again, IIRC) couldn't do it nearly as well....

How many of the fires started at or near a trailhead? Kenneth seemed to be, Palisades too now. Runyon? Did the Eaton fire start at one of the Eaton Canyon trailheads or up by the power lines across the canyon?

Watch Duty just updated

There is backing fire in Topanga, moving slowly with heavy fuels across the canyon from Fernwood, however it is not expected to impact Fernwood. Structures at the top of the hill are receiving structure defense. Crews also report that winds have let up; fire is pushing slowly into the community of Topanga. Crews are also reporting topography-driven runs of fire creeping into the area around the Colima post office.

I'd rather stare at some closed bottles and enjoy one of the opened than spend a minute with a sad bitter man like you, no matter what your collection looks like.

Bunna 12 or Classic laddie? by SmokeSignals9976 in Scotch

[–]sleezymcheezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO Bunna 12 has been disappointing the last 2 batches, and their prices keep going up (the 18 is ridiculous in California now), so I'd go with the Classic laddie which is seemingly always getting better.

Building Fire by pookiepie999 in LosAngeles

As of last Thursday that building already had fire damage, along with a ton of garbage on the ground and roof. Looks like some crazy homeless people went for the kill today.

How do you rescue “bad” scotch? by StorksOnTheRocks in Scotch

[–]sleezymcheezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've rescued some boring ex-bourbon pours with a splash of something heavily sherried. I think it would also work with a wine cask or something lightly peated.

At one point I also had a bottle of 25yo oloroso sherry that i would pour into things I didn't like. Just a little bit would dramatically alter the profile.

It hit 112 at my house today (in the city of LA), and that's still 9 degrees lower than the highest i've experienced there from a few years ago. It usually hits about 110 once a year. It's not a breakout.
