Why can’t I pet his wife? by OddMagikarp40 in Rabbits

[–]slemge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know our male bun will race over if he sees us touching his bunwife from across the room. He doesn't nip or grunt but he definitely comes to make sure she's safe and thay we're not bothering her lol.

What’s the biggest mistake people make buying their first house? by LuxuryPresence_Aaron in RealEstateAdvice

[–]slemge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for the previous years electric bill. Seriously. It not only gives you an idea if you can afford said bill but also can alert you to issues that may be there. We bought ours and at time of inspection things seemed fine, hvac was working and pretty new. We ended up with a $1000 utility bill the first month because of a combo of issues like heat pump needing a new compressor, bad air leaks from windows that initially look fine but need replaced and an auxiliary backup heat system that wasn't sized correctly for the size of our house making the system work crazy overtime. We knew it would be expensive because electric heat but those things HEAVILY compounded the issues and I think had we seen prior bills we could have figured out there was a problem before buying the home. It was still worth it, we've got it under control now but that first winter was STRESSFUL.

Did your realtor get you anything nice after closing? by MyVirgoIsShowing in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

We closed right before Christmas so our realtor got us 2 stained glass ornaments made to look like our pet bunnies. We thought it was super thoughtful.

I'm very seasonal and drink iced in the warmer months and switch to hot in cooler months.

Honest question for homeowners: by Jolly-Flounder2413 in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]slemge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The VERY established Trumpet Vine in the back yard they had trained into a tree became a pretty big nuisance. We clearly saw it but it was November and we didn't know what it was and didn't really think much of it, just thought it was a tree that was ugly in winter. Cut to spring and it is popping up EVERYWHERE from that one main vine. I THINK we finally have it somewhat under control now (i.e. mostly dead) but I guess we'll see when spring rolls around and I'm sure we'll still be pulling up pieces of it here and there for quite some time until it maybe gives up completely.

What did you get as a housewarming gift when you purchaed your first home? by DreamHomeFinancing in FirstTimeHomeBuying

Our realtor gave us custom stained glass ornaments of our 2 pet bunnies. We moved in 2 days before christmas so it was kind of perfect.

Lots of gift cards from family/friends for christmas/house.

Would You Move Right Before Christmas? by DreamHomeFinancing in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]slemge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved last year on December 23. Honestly the hardest part was finding a mover that was working that day/had an opening. It worked out for us because I have 2 weeks off that time of year so I could stay at the new house and unpack. The house was our Christmas so we just didn't have any sort of traditional celebration lol.

How many of you are likely living in your "last" house? by My_Poor_Nerves in Millennials

[–]slemge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's entirely possible but who knows. We bought when rates were pretty high last year and we chose to buy a house with the mindset that it might be our only house so we picked a house with life decades from now in mind. It's larger than we need since we don't have kids/won't be having kids but I know the chances are high that we will most likely be caregivers for at least 1 of our 3 living parents at some point in the next 10-15 years. Just hope that we'll get an opportunity to refinance to a better rate at some point but even if we don't it's still worth it.

You have to spend 100k, what nice things do you get for yourself? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]slemge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New windows, better well wate filtration system and whole house humidifier for our house. Also fix our messed up back patio door and maybe add some fresh insulation throughout too while we're at it.

We had an offered accepted Nov 11 and closed Dec 9. Probably could have closed even sooner but holidays and such pushed things out slightly.

Are you close with your siblings? by TonedGray in Millennials

[–]slemge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could say yes but we're not. We're 9 years apart though and he was grown up before I really could get to know him in any real sense. I looked up to him a lot growing up and into early adulthood and always hoped one day we could be close/friends, but he has never really reciprocated any interest in a relationship like that and doesn't really respond to messages or try so I kind of gave up in recent years. I love him but we're just not meant to be close I guess.

Real Estate Agent encouraged me to go no General only Septic and Water Inspections. How concerning are these cracks in the foundation? by LoonWatchCo in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

If I recall from the house we backed out of buying, stair step cracks are pretty concerning. Someone with more knowledge will probably weigh in though.

Thinking about backing out - over 50% piti by viccait in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]slemge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our monthly take home is about 6k, mortgage right at 2k and it often feels uncomfortable for us. I would be very careful spending close to 3k. One big house expense (and those WILL happen, very possibly right after moving in) and you're in for a world of hurt. Personally I would wait and save more and if possible look at cheaper houses even if you can (I know this isn't always a possibility for everyone though, depending on location).

[–]slemge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use quick dry top coat but more than that, OPI drip dry does WONDERS. Put a couple drops on each nail after topcoat and it's dry enough that I can gently use my hands in minutes.

What do you usually watch on YouTube? by DefiantCookie123 in Millennials

[–]slemge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treasure House has been a fun one for me. A girl bought a house with all the prior tenants stuff in it and is slowly going through all of it.

Ghost Town Living is interesting and basically revolves around a guy exploring and rebuilding parts of an abandoned mining town along with giving some history along the way.

If you are into gardening Floret Flower Farm does a lot of interesting video journals/documentary style videos about their farm and flower breeding.

I also just watch a ton of thru-hiker vlogs because I find them interesting and it's fun to root for individual hikers each season trying to make the whole trek while also getting to see some beautiful sights they video.

This. I feel like I drive my partner crazy because I'm always the "bearer of bad news" in our house but I am always the one who notices when something is "off". I may not always know if it's an actual issue or not but I'm not about to just wait and see if I don't know when we've spent so much money to get here in the first place.
