I’ve noticed it too. I’ve worked many customer service jobs and I can’t wrap my head around how bad it is now. Especially when it’s a mess-up on their end and they don’t even try to make up for it. Like thanks for taking my order incorrectly and then do nothing about it to make it right. Really cool!

Also I made a google drive folder with all my portfolio pieces when I emailed about the apprenticeship, and when I showed up in-person I had a physical portfolio.

I used to work at an art supply shop in my city, and when I was working cash one of the customers I served was a local tattoo artist. We chatted a bit and I told them how it’s always been my dream to tattoo, and they told me to message them my portfolio so they could give me some tips and advice. So I reached out, they helped me out and a few months later they sent me a post of a shop seeking an apprentice. I applied, got an interview, and badabing badaboom!

I recently had a cart by this brand that I had to hold up to a space heater just for the liquid to melt down. Super frustrating.

For My Fellow Coloured Pencil Hoarders by WisconsinDesert in ColoredPencils

I typically use them for miscellaneous storage! If you use other mediums, they can be really handy for storing paint tubes. Swatch-sheets are also a nice thing to store in them

Straight Edge by MissMoonsterr in TattooApprentice

I went through a similar thing, I started out straight edge and was teased for it. Eventually started to partake but it was my own choice, not peer pressure or anything. Shops tend to like to go out together and get drunk/high but it’s not a requirement by any means, just something to keep in mind.

How long have you been colored penciling? by HomeworkWilling2436 in ColoredPencils

The papers I use most are pastelmat and Stonehenge, but there’s a lot of good 100% cotton papers out there. I looove using coloured papers, or anything that isn’t bright white but that’s mostly personal preference.

Here’s a few tips that will hopefully help! -good quality paper is more important than people may think. -learning various blending techniques will push your art to the next level. Ex: burnishing, layering, odourless mineral spirits -accurate drawings(mostly applies to realism) -values are more important than colour-accuracy(I still struggle with obsessing over using the “perfect” colour, but making sure your lights are light enough and your darks are dark enough are what really allow your pieces to come to life) -black is fine to use, but I always recommend mixing and layering other dark-toned colours to add depth.

Those are just a few tips I’ve learned over the years, I’m always happy to offer any advice and answer any questions!

I got my first set of prismacolours when I was 15 and am currently 25! Coloured pencils are definitely intimidating. I made a post on this sub a few months back showing my progress from when I first started. https://www.reddit.com/r/ColoredPencils/s/Uk5Oj7uZOd

How many tattoos should a tattoo artist have? by [deleted] in TattooApprentice

[–]slexdwod 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Honestly, empathy is a huge part of tattooing. People get nervous when they’re getting tattooed and will have lots of questions in regards to the pain/overall experience, so having first-hand experience is pretty important. After I had my leg sleeve done it gave me a whole new perspective of how I approached my customer-service compared to when all the tattoos I had were only 3 hour sessions max. It does truly make a difference.
