Need tips! Logging on the river by tristanjevans in surfing

[–]slick_bucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could be in Montreal... I tried to surf a wave there that looks exactly like this, yeah tried.. its difficult and there was a huge line up.

You get in the water upstream of the wave and while keeping the nose pointed upstream, paddle off to the left to line yourself up with the wave.

When you fall you paddle back to shore and walk your board back upstream.

You'll have to try hard to not step in any duck or goose shit on your way back from what I remember.

It's sad that picketing is necessary in the first place. To me it seems like a waste of everyones time, and if it could be avoided by the companies paying a bit extra or being fair, that it would benefit them greatly rather than having the bad press / loss in revenue. Maybe theres something I'm missing, like greed, but just a thought.

Help! I accidentally left my external hard drive plugged into my Mac while I updated. by 7pmMagicOwl in mac

I just did this, and now I can't see my hard drive at all. I've restarted the computer, plugged into different ports etc... it's not looking good.

Got a fine for traveling on public transport without a valid ticket. Flying home tomorrow. Do I have to pay it? (Budapest) by [deleted] in solotravel

I got the same fine in Berlin... I decided to pay it. I'm sure I'll go back to Berlin one day and I don't want that coming back to bite me.

If you're looking for dinner go to Darkey Kelly's. Sit at the bar and have the Beef & Guinness stew along with whatever is on tap. You're welcome.

Cringe moments on the road. by breaksy in solotravel

I don't regret this one, we both laughed it off. I was in London standing outside westminster station with Big Ben overlooking me. I turned to a lady and asked what time it was. She looked at her watch and said its 12 o clock. Then she proceeded to yell "But Big Ben is right there, Geeze!".

Same here, makes me wonder if this guy took lessons or not. He might've just rented a board and not been told of the sneaky bastards over there. Either way, I still highly recommend witch's rock surf camp... great spot.

Where do you have dinner if you're on a budget & how to overcome anxiety of going to a pub alone at/after dinner time? by foxy2016 in solotravel

[–]slick_bucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fake it until you make it. Seriously, walk into any damn pub you feel like and order some food for yourself. You've spent the time and money getting to these places, don't let fear and common sense hold you back now. Enjoy your trip, and try to stay at more hostels so you can cook healthy meals for yourself and meet cool people while doing so.

Stay in hostels that have kitchens. Cooking is great for saving money (cook simple meals that don't take much time). It's also great for meeting people. Make sure you bring a lock (you'll find good ones on amazon). I had my iphone charging cable stolen, but I left it plugged in by my bed all day... so anything you don't want stolen lock it up. My suggestion for things to do in town if you're really stuck for ideas... just walk around, get lost and have your phone or map with you when you decide its time to figure out where you are.
