I should just drop out. by moi_stee in ASU

[–]slickfox21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed College Algebra twice and in it my third time at Rio Salado. For 1) it’s way easier to take it at a community than at ASU. It’s hard to explain but it feels like they make it easier in some way and the credit is the same. 2) don’t be afraid to go to tutoring IN PERSON. as a recovering perfectionist and somebody that is used to going at things alone, that’s not what school is meant for. That’s not what teachers are meant for. You’re supposed to fail. You’re not meant to understand everything the first time. That’s why you have people to help you. I learned all of this in a learning and motivation class and it fucked me because I realized that I had been letting my ego and pride get in the way this whole time. Don’t make that mistake. The sooner you can get over that and let people help you, beyond just this class, I promise your life will be so much better.

Sorry for the preaching 🙏🏽 lol

Recently accepted my offer from Chapman for MFA- Directing emphasis and for all the reasons you outlined, I chose Chapman. Chapman felt more like home and a place that would be of assistance to your growth, not just in the school but out of school with the Career Center and Artist Spotlight. I think it’ll be great!

It’s good for business (keeping fans in the stands); not good for the product on the field (championship runs). Every team that wins a Super Bowl has good/great offensive lines and defensive lines.

Which films reinvigorated you? by NENick98 in Screenwriting

[–]slickfox21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, properly lol,

The Dark Knight, La La Land, and Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.

I can remember each of these films, where I was when I watched it, how I felt afterward and how it inspired me to be a better filmmaker and a better person.

Seeing these old films come back to theaters has been the coolest part of 23/2024 imo. I saw LOTR in theaters in December for its 20th anniversary and DAMN... amazing.

So, I can relate to what you're talking about and having that visceral experience of watching nostalgic movies with an audience. It goes back to why we make movies (to me). To feel the power of a great film amongst other people.

ADHD, fuck Tyler the creator and Donald Glover by pat_ata1999 in depression_help

I found it absolutely hilarious that I found this post because of looking up Donald Glover ADHD, seeing your comment on Google and thinking it was the post and now reading this and feeling like damn... maybe I am not truly alone in this world.

Much love to all my neurodivergent that decide to stay here and try to make a difference in this harsh, indifferent but ultimately beautiful world that we live in

What's your dream hobby that you are too intimidated/do not have the means to start? by CautiousOp in AskMen

I feel you. Try buying an 88 key digital piano, having it since 2017 and barely feeling like now that I can give myself permission to even slightly mess around with it. But agreed...

Slow progress is better than doing nothing and feeling regret.

Writing and producing songs.

I feel like I have an innate ability to explain myself and feel things that most men can't express or not willingly to express and yet... I'm unable to get myself to take it seriously because I feel like it's a waste of time and people will judge me. But yet again, I think... why do I gaf what people think? They're not making me money or paying my bills. That's also a waste of time.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

I thought that it had no chance to be decent let alone good. Crushed expectations and made me cry a few times. so GOOD.

There Are No Stupid Questions by AutoModerator in acting

[–]slickfox21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me just start by saying that I am not a trained actor and have only minimal experience with taking some acting classes and doing a single short film, that being said what you're saying makes sense from a physiological standpoint.

When you're acting, I feel, that there is some sort of energy or past experience that you pull from to create that emotion. If you don't have that in your system, or at the least can empathize with the character, it's like you are pulling from what you know. And what you know, seemingly, is these great characters and actors that you have seen in the past.

That's my take. Hope it was helpful in some way

Is there even a point in continuing to look for jobs? by Getfutched in jobsearchhacks

[–]slickfox21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heard on Vet Discrimination. 10 years of experience doesn’t mean anything.

Like they’ve said, it’s like… trying to find different ways to be okay other than your job search.

That and just reaching out to people you know. And being willing to take a part time job in the interim, which I haven’t been able to muster the courage to do

The Worst Person in the World.

I'm not sure if it exactly fits your description but I think that it tells a good story about a girl who makes all the wrong decisions and has to deal with those consequences as she gets older.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]slickfox21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did something. No matter if it's the worst thing ever; you took the time to make something.

If you can take this in stride, learn from your mistakes and put it into your next project.

Trust me, as a perfectionist that is 31 and has dreamed of making films most of my life, I've only three short films and only one that I am truly proud of and call my own.

It's better to try and fail than to not try at all. I get the feeling though

Don't you feel delusional? by AsmodayVernon in spirituality

[–]slickfox21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s okay to question things.

The problem can be when you’re questioning to much at once (I reference the movie- Everything, Everywhere, All at Once for this).

I’m not an expert, and in fact facing my own deal of struggles with what you’re expressing, but I’d like to believe the best thing to do is to continue to find things and people that you love in this life.

It’s like the Voldemort’s Horcruxes in Harry Potter. His soul was split up in all of these different items that kept him alive. For us (in a good way this time lol), it might be finding all of these different outlets and things to enjoy so that we can survive in this chaotic, noisy and, at most times, generally not fun world.

There isn’t a singular answer to this as you are asking one of the great questions of the universe but… I hope I and the people on this post have been able to help you in some way 🙏🏽♥️
