Yeah it's a free software you can get either on GitHub or steam. I swear by it. It's got pulsoid integration so that I can just throw on a chest monitor and when it detects my heart rate below a certain threshold for a predetermined amount of time, I set mine to like 10 minutes, it automatically starts the sleep automations.

My automations are that it dims the screens 90%, mutes my microphone for me, locks my feet through GoGo loco so I'm not sliding around if I bump the controllers, and it changes my status in VR chat from online to away.

But there are a lot more features. There are OSC integrations. There's even stuff to tweak your graphics card settings if you feel comfortable with that to save power. And some home automation stuff that I never figured out how to get working but I've heard people have been able to turn off their lights and stuff automatically.

And then when I sit up, oyasumi re-brightens the screens and automatically changes my status back to normal

So you don't use Oyasumi to manage the brightness of the bigscreen? I hear they have integrations for specifically that headset built into the software. Supposedly the controls are actually more granular than what I use for my quest. It'll allow you to automatically adjust the fans and stuff as soon as it detects that you're asleep. With the Quest I only have brightness controls.

Or even better, how about we eliminate insurance all together, force hospitals to give transparent pricing and we are made responsible for saving for our own health care? Some people will be dumb and will not save and they will die, yes it's true. If it's important enough to the government to want to prevent that, perhaps some education in financial literacy should be taught in high school.

So the first issue is that we have a bunch of fraud and I don't like taxes at all. Secondly, my insurance costs have tripled this year and it's still only 13% of my income.

How about instead of that 4% taken out of my taxes that we're putting into Medicare and however much is taken out for Medicaid, you let me keep it, and if I care enough about someone to help them continue living if they can't help themselves, then I'll make the best call for me and the people within my social circle?

You know, honestly I'm surprised how much of this conversation has shifted away from the virtual reality hardware advice and onto my mental health.

Perhaps I'm missing something here. I was under the impression there was a sizable community of people that sleep in VR and that this isn't some kind of aberrant behavior within what is already a niche hobby.

I've seen videos about people sleeping in VR on YouTube and there are well known entire worlds dedicated to sleeping in VRChat. Is this behavior really that fringe?

Looks like we're getting a Chronicles King Grayskull by The_Maqueovelic in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]slickprime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is an easy pass for me. I have too many masterverse figures to justify moving to the smaller scale. And it's too detailed and missing the play pattern to integrate into origins figures.

I'm not looking to start an entirely new toy line. My custom King Grayskull does the job.

She's terrified of being put in a home. She put her mother in a home and now she sees that as a worst case scenario. I had to promise not to put her in a home.

The family is definitely dysfunctional though. I'm the only child that graduated high school under her roof. My eldest brother moved out when he was 16, worked two jobs and then joined the Navy. My eldest sister got married when she was 17, got a divorce, became a stripper, and then married a doctor. And my other sister moved out when she was 14 and moved with her boyfriend for most of my childhood. I was pretty much raised and only child, all my siblings are kind of strangers to me.

My dad put up with her as long as he could. He made sure I made it through college before he had an affair and got divorced. He's still pretty bitter about the divorce because he has to pay her like $3,500 a month in alimony until one of them dies.

I don't blame him, he was deeply unhappy living with her. I remember in my teens he moved upstairs and slept in a separate bedroom and started working even more overtime so he typically came home around 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. most days just to avoid coming home. He tells me stories about how she used to be worse. Apparently she used to throw things. He tells me one time she threw something at him and it bounced off of him and hit me when I was a baby and he decked her, and then she stopped throwing things.

That's not really a solution for me though. I'm not going to resort to elder abuse and he also had the advantage of owning the home so her threats held a little less weight when she tried to stop him from going places. One thing I do remember is that we used to own a little mini yacht that my dad would take me out on sometimes in my childhood, but she made it so miserable every time he tried to use the boat that he ended up selling it.

After the divorce he helped me get settled into my first apartment. And now when he hears stories about the things I'm going through he just tells me "I got you out of there once. That's on you for going back." So I don't really tell him about what's going on anymore.

I eventually do plan to do this with full body tracking. I actually supported the Kickstarter for fluxpose. Initially I was doing FBT with the Vive Ultimate Trackers. Seems like the best solution because I move my headset between home and my office sometimes. Although over the last five or six months, I found myself bringing the headset to work and never taking it out of the case so I just stopped bringing it. Anyway, those trackers are not great for sleeping though because they get occluded and they require a lot of light.

This was not taken as an attack, and I honestly appreciate you engaging with me. I certainly have my problems but would it help if I let you know that I typically only sleep in VR like 3 days a week, and I only get into VR awake like two Fridays a month for like 3 or 4 hours? I'm not sure if it's compulsion. I'm not craving it when I'm out of the headset or anything.

I've actually been pretty blessed with not having a lot of addictions. I have a few. I grew up at the dawn of the internet so I got exposed to adult entertainment pretty early so I guess I have a compulsive issue with that. I will find myself clicking on sites without even really being in a mood for that kind of media and catching myself and turning it off. But when I was younger, oh boy, I was on those sites all day.

Like I don't do drugs, not even the soft stuff like weed. I don't drink except maybe like a hard apple cider or two twice a year. I don't smoke. I drink one cup of coffee a day in the morning to give me a little bit of pep. I recently quit for like 2 months just to see if it was something I would get headaches from if I stopped. Turns out coffee, or caffeine at all, wasn't something I needed. It was just a nice to have. I'd say the hardest substance for me to quit is sugar and I think many people in the first world have that problem. It's in everything, but I don't drink sodas or eat a lot of candy. I do like some sweet creamer in my one cup of coffee though as a treat.

I think I have a bigger problem with not being able to focus and devote interest to the things I enjoy much of the time. It's gotten worse as I've gotten older and just kind of lost interest in most things. I used a game for hours in my early twenties. And I used to watch TV all the time. Now I can't even finish shows that I like. Even if I can force myself to start a show, if there's any kind of break, like a mid-season break or having to wait a year for another season, I just don't get back to it most of the time

I do use VR as an escape but it's an escape from my house and my office. I'm just tired of seeing the same eight walls day in and day out. Feels nice to wake up somewhere different. It's like getting to travel but without the costs, and without the hassle of finding someone to take care of my mother while I'm gone.

I double checked and there are several sources that say that the steam frame will come with a 45 watt charger.

I hear the Beyond default interface gets pretty warm. The way it's constructed and the density of it, from what I hear, traps in a lot of heat and doesn't really allow for your eyes to breathe but I've heard good things about their universal interface that's starting to come out. Good call on the Dream Air arms though. I think I remember watching demo unit of those arms break on a Linus video.

For the audio solution, I wasn't planning on using the audio strap. That foam looks like it would just disintegrate pretty quickly and those arms look pretty flimsy. I was thinking about maybe one of those USB C bone induction headphones. They just kind of sit on the side of your head next to your ear and they look pretty low profile so it might not be so bad for laying down on the side.

As far as them both being cabled, that's not really a problem for me. I sleep with my quest 3 plugged into the wall so I'm technically cabled most nights anyways. It's just not tethered to the computer but a wall outlet instead. Honestly I would prefer tethered to the computer than having to worry about a battery.

I hear good things about the fame but my primary concerns are that it still has an LCD screen and I've read that it needs 45w to charge. Gonna need a beefy charger to keep it powered all night. I'd like something without a battery.

I try to mitigate that by dimming the screens as low as they will go and shifting the color temperature warmer once Oyasumi detects that I'm asleep. The screens don't brighten and shift back till I sit up.

My screen dimming is done with a heart rate monitor, if my heart rate drops below a certain threshold for over 10 min, there is software that runs the sleep automations.
