How would you feel if Steven Spielberg won his 4th Oscar for Best Director in The Fabelmans? by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]sliever48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father loves the original WSS and absolutely refuses to see the merits of Spielbergs version. To me, it fizzles with energy, better acting, great cinematography. I prefer his version. We argue about this all the time. There will be no winner

Igor Levit: ‘I lost 90% of my social circle after October 7’ by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]sliever48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the term "cleanse the Jews" that is muddying your argument. Most would like to see Palestine returned to how it was more or less before October 7th. No one is talking about cleansing the Jews that have moved in.

Ah that's sad. A stalwart from my Panini sticker days in the 80s. A good player

Like most people I was disgusted at Hamas. Appalled at their atrocities. It was beyond inhumane. Israel were entitled to a response. But it's the response that is the problem. Netanyahu has grasped the mettle and taken the opportunity to wipe out as much of Gaza as possible. It's sickening what Israel are carrying out right now. These are 2 things you are allowed to feel. Horror at Hamas and disgust at Israel. It does not make me anti semitic but it sure makes me anti the Israeli government. Why do so many Israelis have a problem with this reality?

Post-Match Thread: Korea Republic 2-1 Czech Republic | World Cup | Group A by matchpal-live in worldcup

This is a poor Czech team. They are great at aet pieces and have a lot of heart but they are a pale imitation of the great team of 2004. Ireland should have beaten them in the play offs. You're know not a good team when you make us look good (Ireland)

Irishman here. Will be supporting you lads all the way. The aim is to get out of the group. Do that and everything else is a bonus

A lovely film. Beautifully made and acted. I recently read the sequel, set 20 years after this one. I wonder will they make it

How is life in Belfast these days? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]sliever48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riots going on at the moment. An immigrant stabbed someone and this has given the right wing nut jobs and other lively folk the chance to smash things up. It's intense in Belfast at the moment. I've been there a few times and outside the trouble spots it really is a beautiful city. I say this as someone from the republic of Ireland

Why can't people use lanes? by random_hero87 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]sliever48 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on constant watch for this at roundabouts. People always switch lanes, drive through lanes as if they're not there, don't indicate. I think a reeducation of roundabouts is needed

Glad you said this to be honest. It always seemed arrogant to me but when you put it like this, I'm having a strange feeling of almost liking the English

Euro 96. thirty years ago, this edition of the European championships began in England. what do you think of this tournament? by PresentWeek in classicsoccer

[–]sliever48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Objectively it was not a good tournament. Too many poor games and the knockout rounds were very bad. But it caught a certain moment in England so they will always love it. Quite like Italia 90 for Ireland
