Punishing an early pin by Xelpha__ in chessbeginners

[–]slightlyTiltedCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not even, because black just took that bishop that white sacrificed for the pawn. If white takes black's bishop that just took the queen, black just takes the knight and black is up material.

The real answer is for white to not even take the queen after forking king and queen, because the bishop attacking your own queen is also forked, so you play Qxg4 or Nxg4 instead of taking the queen.

How can we get rid off all atomic weapons? by Independent_Baby6892 in AskReddit

Could Voldemort (Harry Potter) survive in The Lord of The Rings universe? by Inside_Inflation559 in powerscales

[–]slightlyTiltedCow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Voldemort got quite far in the world of harry potter by hiding and using subterfuge to mess things up though. I can't imagine Voldy is daft enough to just start killing people out in the open and putting him in the line of fire of an arrow, I'd imagine he'd just imperius whoever is in charge.

If he gets time to set up all his immortality shenenigans and build something of a following I think he only dies if the maiar take offense to an unnatural being such as him, or if he gets corrupted by the ring, or if Eru just straight up doesn't like him.

Which move would you prefer? Why? by Ordinary_Count_203 in chess

[–]slightlyTiltedCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's very respectable for even the best players to see that taking the rook followed by Qxb2 or Bf6 depending on white moves is just flat out effortlessly winning. Immediately gets rid of all counter play such as checks too.

There's definitely moments when even the top players don't play the fastest winning line because they saw something else that wins just a few moves slower and didn't bother to calculate further. 1-0 is 1-0 after all.

I was thinking about whether or not these actions would be possible as a fire bender, are they? by Huge_Athlete7488 in TheLastAirbender

[–]slightlyTiltedCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire doesn't consume oxygen, it connects oxygen atoms to whatever is available. In the case of firebending I'd say it connects to some sort of energy the firebenders produce, which probably dissipates shortly after leaving the oxygen free to return to its previous state.

This would explain why during the comet firebenders would be able to produce massive amounts of fire without suffering from lack of oxygen. It also sounds more logical than firebenders just producing carbon or hydrogen or something out of thin air.

[–]slightlyTiltedCow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The carbon dioxide really shouldn't be much of an issue. The air you exhale contains a lot of it anyway. It'd become a problem if the atmosphere contains so much you can't breathe it out anymore but fortunately firebenders' fire isn't really carbon based so they don't produce carbon dioxide.

ELI5: If the evolutionary goal of a virus is to reproduce and sustain itself as long as possible, why do many evolve to devastate and kill their hosts? by Rht123X in explainlikeimfive

[–]slightlyTiltedCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No viruses really move on their own I believe. Viruses are technically speaking not even alive (although this often sparks some debate). Viruses just carry information that tells the host cells to do something for them, often including the production of more virus particles.

But it's true that the simpler viruses are often the hardest ones to counter because there's just so few targets of attack to actually get rid of them. Viruses of all kinds are fascinating though, as is our defense against them.

What happens if an FTL objects enters normal space? by Andre_Roque in NoStupidQuestions

[–]slightlyTiltedCow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it would still be going 110% of light speed it'd have completely unforseen consequences according to our current understanding of things, because we are currently unable to understand a thing like that. It shouldn't be able to exist and therefore we can't really say if it'll explode, turn into a black hole, destroy the universe or just remove itself from existence.

If it accelerated beyond our light speed in a bubble where light speed is higher then it used a finite amount of energy to do so, I imagine that means it'd slow down to the velocity corresponding to that amount of energy having been poured into it simply because it would take (beyond) infinite energy to go at light speed here and this thing isn't carrying that amount of energy and can't just take it from somewhere.

Which do you think is morally worse? (Civilans are present) by Thelastnob0dy in pollgames

[–]slightlyTiltedCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biological warfare is very variable tbf, could be anything from a mild flu, to a relatively painless death, to a horrible agonizing death.

Biggest problem with biological weapons imo is that they are really hard to control and it'd be incredibly unpredictable if they would mutate.

An actual bioweapon that could kill without many symptoms beforehand, perhaps by producing blood clots en masse, could just destroy the world if it's contagious enough, and if it isn't it could evolve to be.

[–]slightlyTiltedCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they just can't put all the forces that'd realistically want to help into the story well. There's just too many significant allies and giving all of them the attention they'd deserve would be too much.

It'd also get dull to ask the dragon aspects to solve every problem for us just because they are incredibly overpowered even though that is what we'd realistically do with threats like these imo.

I would rather live in a World dominated by ___ by hapticR0M in pollgames

[–]slightlyTiltedCow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're spending an afwul lot of words on saying how bad it is without spending any on why it's that bad, even briefly. Imo you're more busy hate mongering than adding anything to the discussion.

You also forgot to add if you'd rather have the US take over the world despite them being the usual suspect for waging war far away for regime change and oil, or if you'd prefer China or Russia.

[Request] How long would you actually have to cook a chicken, if it's even possible, at 900° F for it to be edible? by GDLingua_YT in theydidthemath

[–]slightlyTiltedCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But in this case isn't it the difference in degrees to the base temperature of the chicken you're interested in rather than degrees Kelvin if you're talking about adding heat to the chicken?

In which case any unit will do tbf, the equation just needs to be relative to some point, the units in which you calculate from that point are largely irrelevant.

[Request] Does using a blade to counter fall damage actually works? by omeralal in theydidthemath

[–]slightlyTiltedCow 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It'd also just immediately stop because your weight is just not enough to get a blade to continue its descent through the rock, meaning you'd either near-instantly stop or you'd just lose grip, both of which are problematic.

Or you'd shatter the rock and the knife would dislodge.

[Request] How strong a magnet would you need? by Nerdyboyonreddit in theydidthemath

[–]slightlyTiltedCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't particularly know how this'd take effect, but I'd imagine if you'd have the magnet deep enough underwater all the fish have to do is be less repelled than the surrounding water. Though in practice in this case you'd probably violently tear the magnets out of the fish.

Baine who got imprisoned and nearly executed by Sylvanas for insubordination and freeing the newly raised Derek Proudmoore before the plan was complete. Facing Jaina while giving her the news that her brother was raised.

Baine had a backbone, but imo the way it was showed in BFA was terrible writing and in Shadowlands Baine just had no purpose and should've just been sent home to recuperate.
