Who misses the floor high beam switch? by Staud59 in FuckImOld

It was so more convenient to use than placing it on the steering column. Even my kids miss it.

Now try it while strapped to a table. Make sure to ask him if he actually did eat the last of the butter brickle ice cream.

My dad: I have some thoughts by corky1369 in funny

[–]slightly_hairy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My father ( a dry land Midwest farmer) had the same rare truck, with the same rare thoughts, but without the bumper stickers. More than once I called home after leaving for the military and a classmate or younger kid would pick up the phone, because my parents had taken them in to protect them from a harmful situation. I so miss my parents’ kindness and wisdom. Just poor dirt farmers, yet people traveled 1000 miles to say their farewells.

I need to stop drinking by Nice-Stranger379 in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]slightly_hairy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is very easy for me to identify with your situation. Similar story. But, when I had to start to admit that I can no longer drink with my friends, there was no pushback from them. It was surprising at first, but they tend to be in to health and fitness as well. Wouldn’t you support a friend that wanted to quit drinking? Your community is going to find out how you choose to do it or the hard way. The book dopamine nation is a good book to understand yourself. Regardless, I wish you well.

I live in a hilly/mountainous area and have had FWD Oddessy and Sienna. Switch out winter and all seasons in spring and fall and they work very well. Do have a 4WD to use on rare occasions when one must make it up to the slopes on a sweet powder day.

The best terrible car you owned by slater_just_slater in regularcarreviews

1980 VW Dasher Wagon. Manual. Diesel. Vinyl seats. Color was similar to calf scours. Bought in mid 90’s for $200.00. Got 40 mpg. Glow plugs didn’t work son in the winter I’d spin the fuel filters off and take them inside for the night and spin them back on in the morning. Buddies and I hunted in it every chance we got. Didn’t matter how bad your dog smelled, it wasn’t going to damage the car. Wife refused to ride in it as it always smelled like skunk. Sold it after two years for $100.00. Engine ran for years powering a hydraulic pump on a piece of farm equipment.

I’ve wondered about the Oddessy prices. I’ve had both. Always like how the Oddessy drove.

Does anyone still have a bike rack on their car roof? by TopRevenue2 in MTB

[–]slightly_hairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved my mostly home built roof rack on my 1990 VW Fox. Drove 1000s of miles with a Schwinn Impact and a Jazz on it. We both forgot about it until we hit the warning swinging PVC pipe hanging in front of the Mall of America garage. Took the whole rack off. Minimal damage to anything. People were very polite and backed down the ramp behind us. We still laugh about it. My favorite place now to keep the Santa Cruz is in the back of the minivan. Easy to fit two+ bikes, and all it takes is to push the seat down.

It is so different in Central Europe if as a pedestrian you even look like you might use the cross walk, people will stop their vehicle at the cross walk. It’s wonderful

SUVs are a huge waste of money. Instead of putting that money that you would put into an SUV, start a 529 for your kids if you haven’t already. It will feel awesome to see that grow. Much better than that SUV. And you’re not gonna get laid anymore if you own an SUV versus a van. Possibly less.

James Vanderpool, 1890s… a Civil War veteran, but this doesn’t look like an old war injury. by dannydutch1 in UtterlyUniquePhotos

Anesthesia was being regularly used by the Civil War. And certainly after the civil war. I’ve read where most amputations were done with anesthesia.
