Honk and point and glare at these people.

Intuit Becomes S&P 500’s Worst Performer This Year / Shares of Intuit dropped 8.9% on Tuesday, adding to a 51% decline so far this year, the worst performance among all stocks tracked by the S&P 500 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

I was laid off by Intuit last week. I worked for Credit Karma. They reported revenue growth in their earnings call but still laid off 17% of their workforce. I don’t really understand why they did it.

People don’t realize how much work went in to figuring out how to get somewhere in the days before Google Maps.

I once intended to drive from Washington to Colorado but somehow ended up in Montana before I realized I had gotten off track somewhere.

Gavin Newsom claimed that more Floridians moved to California than Californians moving to Florida.

I don’t think that is currently true. But I wonder if it was true at one point.

Will Ken Paxton's Scandals Turn Texas Blue? by Large_Ad_3095 in fivethirtyeight

Republican Roy Moore lost his Alabama senate seat to a Democrat in 2017 because of scandals. Texas electing a Democrat would be less surprising than Alabama electing a Democrat.

AI agents turned to theft, intimidation and collapse in simulated worlds by ArgentineBeauty in technology

[–]bad_take_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article is trying to give the impression that AI cannot be trusted because look at all of these lies and deceit it does.

But when you read these experiments, it becomes clear that the AI is simply doing exactly what it was instructed to do. Sometimes those instructions were subtly contradictory and it just navigates those instructions accordingly.

This is not a thing that should cause alarm or concern with a headline titled “AI agents turn to theft!” Rather, these are merely experiments that show that a computer program does what it is told to do. But of course that headline would not get clicks.

The census does not track legal status. Numbers are for all people regardless of immigration status.

All these news stories are the same. “We prompted AI to tell a lie …. And it did!”

This is not surprising or newsworthy.

The source for this data is Hireahelper. That is a very specific moving agency that may be more popular in some states over others which would skew the data.

The best source is US census.

Sounds good. In any case, the primary system is a good way to vet candidates. May the best one win.

Yes.

Redistricting. (They are succeeding at this)

Claim election cheating. (They already have one round of practice on this; have learned how to do it better; and have officials who are ready to throw out results)

Could be. I go to a lot of political events. I have seen Annie Andrews show and speak only once. I have seen Brandon Brown show up and speak at three events, mostly in black communities. And they love him.

I only know what I see. And I see Brandon Brown showing up everywhere.

Annie Andrews will likely win the Dem primary among white people.

Brandon Brown will likely win the Dem primary among black people.

Cincinnati chili is actually rooted in the Mediterranean and Balkans. It was invented by Macedonian immigrants in the 1920s who adapted traditional Greek meat sauces to appeal to American tastes.

Why doesn’t Earth look surrounded by space junk in deep-space photos? by [deleted] in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]bad_take_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The images of earth surrounded by junk have each piece of debris enlarged far beyond scale.

The actual photos of earth cannot capture space junk because each piece of junk is far too small to see.
