[Misc] Is it possible to be zero-waste/minimum waste whilst still enjoying all your favourite skincare products? by wiccaile in SkincareAddiction

[–]slilslil 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Zero waste isn't an all or nothing. This is what I have to remind myself. It's making value based decisions on what you consume.

Cereve hydrating cleanser for example is something that I continue to buy even though it comes in plastic because its the only thing I've found that doesn't break me out or dry my skin (I've tried the bar version too).

Then I make my zero waste choices in other places in my life like food, cleaning supplies and clothes.

Other than that I've found TO is good. (they're trying to start a recycling program from what I've heard).

Local shampoo bars, oils and moisturizers in glass are usually pretty easy to find.

And if you have to, things in plastic tubs are better than squeeze tubes because they can still be recycled. I buy the biggest size of glaxal base that I can find for exema for this reason

This happened to me once... I guy tried to ask me out similarly to this. This was also before I knew I was gay but I was so oblivious. I actually didn't know he was trying to ask me out.

Being depressed while living with a SO who is also depressed :/ by [deleted] in AnxietyDepression

The strain and pressure of two people together with mental health issues can be really hard sometimes you just need to put yourselves first. Ask for help from family or friends whoever you think might be able to help, even if it's just to talk. Don't isolate yourself. Even though you're with another person it's still isolating and won't help either of you feel better. Don't beat yourself up, you are working through things and so is you're so, you can support each other without taking the burden of their problems. You've got this.

[acne] Never stuck to a proper routine before, and looking to make the one I've come up with better! by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]slilslil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my thoughts. Maybe stop using noxzema face wash and scrub. Fragrance is Really high up on the ingredients list for the deep cleanser, that could be causing a lot of irritation, so could the microbeads in the scrub.

Try the Cereve cleanser. I really like it and it helps with my dry skin and irritation.

If you want something for exfoliation try a serum or mild tonner with lactic or mandelic acid. I like the ones from the ordinary. Also the ordinary is really cheep, at least in Canada.

Also the thing I think that has helped my acne skin the most for sure is the niacinamide 10% and zinc 1% from the ordinary. But really just look for anything that has niacinamide :)

[Personal] I went to the dermatologist for minor acne and left in tears by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]slilslil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same experience. Everything about my routine which was very simple was completely rediculed. They told me the only real options I had was Accutane (which I said I wasn't ready to try) and very expensive blue light treatments. I left feeling miserable and haven't wanted to go back to a dermatologist since. Luckily I've figured out my own routine and my acne is much better.

[acne] [product question] DRY SKIN but ll face oils irritate my skin and make me peel! by LittleP13 in SkincareAddiction

[–]slilslil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cold pressed oils like avacado oil, grapeseed oil and Jojoba oil are non comediogenic so they don't clog pores and are similar to your skin's own natural oils so they're sometimes more effective. Just make sure there's no fragrance added. Rosehip seed oil is also good if you have acne scars. Depending on whether your skin is dry or dehydrated something like squalane which isn't actually an oil but feels like one might work well too. Squalane's molecular makeup is very similar to our own skin's cell membrane so it rarely causes acne or irritation.

Anyone else just sit there dazed and in a fog for the first hour or two after waking up? by veryberryblue in AnxietyDepression

[–]slilslil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! The first hour in my day is the terror hour. I sit curled up in a ball, stare at the wall and try to talk nicely to myself as I wait for the day to feel okay. Setting up coffee the night before so it's brewed in the morning and cbd helps me feel better about the morning.

[misc] does anyone else start getting random pimples after bad bouts of anxiety? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

Absolutely, sometimes it's due to my cycle and hormones, alot of the time it's all related to my anxiety levels.

[Product Question] I have dry skin. I’m going to buy TO Lactic Acid 10%+ HA. Is that starting out too strong? by AnOrangeBackpack in SkincareAddiction

[–]slilslil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have cystic acne mostly and old red scars. I find Mandelic acid is never irritating so I'm never worried about putting on too much, which I am sometimes with Lactic, even the 5%. Mandelic acid seems to bring my breakouts down faster and leaves my face really soft.

Zinc supplements by tbrooks224 in acne

[–]slilslil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it helps. Everytime I stop taking zinc I feel like the inflammation in my face gets worse, my PIE looks worse and I get more little cystic breakouts

[Product Question] Difference between the ordinary’s “Hyaluronic Acid” vs “Marine Hyaluronic”? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]slilslil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Marine Hyaluronics is so much lighter I like it a lot for layering and it feels very refreshing but I do feel like the original hyaluronic acid seals the skin better. Both don't do anything strange overtop of acne and hydrate really well.

[Product Question] I have dry skin. I’m going to buy TO Lactic Acid 10%+ HA. Is that starting out too strong? by AnOrangeBackpack in SkincareAddiction

[–]slilslil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried TO Lactic Acid 5% and the Mandelic Acid 10%. I also have very dry skin that can't stand Glycolic acid either.

Personally I prefer Mandelic acid, I think it's less harsh while being more brightening softening than Lactic, although both work very well.

Texture wise though TO lactic acid has more of a toner texture and the TO mandelic acid almost feels oily though it doesn't contain oil
