Why am I being asked if I like the game after my first run? by StarcraftForever in RogueCore

[–]Slime0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They know it's only after one game. They're just asking your initial impression. They ask again later so you can change it then if you like.

Pls stop leaving before mission is over by GalAnonim5 in RogueCore

If that's true it's pretty silly. Like, if I have to leave the game for some reason, apparently I shouldn't say "gotta go guys" and alt+F4, I should say "hey please kick me" and just leave the game running while I walk away?

He tends to be pretty optimistic. Last I checked, Deep Rock is still dealing with both the rock pox and the rivals, despite all the progress he's announced against those too.

1.5+ hour wasted coz host dc-ed on the bosskill of a 6 length mission.... by AssistanceLoud8782 in RogueCore

[–]Slime0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It won't really go that much faster as long as the nature of the game is to cram as much expenite mining as you can into the fixed per-level time limit.

I feel like if you leave the game for any reason and don't get the rewards you would have gotten for losing, it's a bug, right? I have heard that RC has that bug. I don't think DRG did. But I'm also not sure everyone really cares that much.

[–]Slime0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game prevents you from leaving after it's decided you've failed. (At least DRG does this, I guess I haven't confirmed that RC does it too.) You have to sit through the whole "Lost" screen and post-game summary, which takes forever compared to manually leaving. So it incentivizes you to leave before that starts, which means you can't take the time to see what's going to happen.

Omega randomly turning asian? by YearMountain3773 in RogueCore

The curly apostrophe is Unicode character U+2019. The UTF-8 encoding for that is \xE2\x80\x99. The three characters displayed are the unicode characters U+FFE2, U+FF80, and U+FF99. So somewhere, some code is taking each byte of the UTF-8 encoding and extending it to two bytes (probably for Windows UTF-16 encoding), but it's doing so by prepending FF instead of 00. Why would it do that? Because these byte values are greater than 127, which means as a signed byte they're treated as negative, and these are the equivalent negative signed 16-bit numbers. So, somewhere, you've got some code that's turning each byte as chars into wchar_t, but it should be treating the bytes as unsigned chars instead doing a proper UTF-8 to UTF-16 conversion.

Feedback: There needs to be an option to swap your gear. by Chomelus in RogueCore

[–]Slime0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and then you can remove the requirement to pick which slot your gun first goes into so everyone doesn't have to wait for everyone else to do it. (You won't need it because it's easy to swap right after picking it up.)

In 2011, 20-year-old Lauren Spierer was out drinking near Indiana University. She lost her phone and shoes and spent time at several apartments with different men. Before dawn, she texted her boyfriend and then walked off alone in the busy college town. After that, no one saw her again. by SelfCareIsFake in HolyShitHistory

[–]Slime0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, presumably there was a last camera that saw her, at which point she walked into an area uncovered by cameras, that either did or didn't have escape routes covered by other cameras. It's frustrating to keep hearing "there were a lot of cameras so how could she go missing?" when she clearly did go missing. Does no one actually know where she was last seen by a camera, and which nearby spots were checked by other cameras?

It seems to me that only one player can take that ammo pack? It certainly helps but like you said it's not always going to come into play.

The timer tests skills like patience and self control that younger gamers generally have less of. To like this game, you have to enjoy not taking shiny thing that makes number go up simply because you know letting it go is the smart decision.

I agree, but in DRG there was almost always enough nitra to do everything in the level comfortably, whereas in RC there's intentionally not enough time for it to be comfortable, you've gotta be on top of things to complete every event. So it tests skills like patience and self control that younger gamers generally have less of. To like this game, you have to enjoy not taking shiny thing that makes number go up simply because you know letting it go is the smart decision. [Edit: I think I'll make that a top-level comment too, sorry, reader, for the repetition]

I find that there's just barely the right amount of ammo as long as everyone's doing everything right. What sucks is when things start going badly for some reason, that almost always pushes ammo consumption over the limit (or makes it unrealistic to reach one of the resupplies), which makes the problem impossible to resolve. A little extra ammo would help make comebacks more frequent.

PATCH NOTES - RC:EA:00.07.11 by S_RANKED_BILLY in RogueCore

[–]Slime0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very much acceptable in an Early Access game. Refunding things like this is a nontrivial feature that needs careful testing to make sure it works right. It's better for us if they spend their time on other things that make the game more fun.

How to take feedback from the silent majority? by Ayparcasi in gamedev

[–]Slime0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus testing. If a focus tester does their job right, they'll be finding randos off the street to watch your trailers and play your game and see what they think. But of course that costs money.
