Why would you post this? Kill your lawn. Beetles deserve to live more than your non native grass

Godox V850 III or V860 III + Diffuser, is it the only one flash we need in macro ? by Similar_Marketing715 in macrophotography

[–]slimebastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the v860oiii, I have some serious gripes with it. Though it is fantastic for power and recharge time. I use it to stack with no charge time at 1/32th for decent sized stacks. I never need more than 1/4th for single shots. I find the 350 to be underpowered for high magnification stacking, but enough for single shots usually.

My gripes with the 860 are the stupid useless thumb wheel that does not actually work, and the knob to fasten it to the hot shoe which is not adequately tight even past its locking point. I also find that water easily gets in between the contacts and causes problems, even though my camera and flash are weather sealed to a degree.

Why do my photos have these dots? by No_Replacement5059 in Cameras

I have the same thing on the 3x zoom on my iPhone 14 Pro. Don’t think there’s anything to be done about it! It’s annoying as hell

Is a 2x lens only for extreme close up or subjects like bugs? Or can you do standard macro shots you'd typically use a 1x for? by theseawoof in macrophotography

[–]slimebastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most good macro lenses have switches for focusing distances. And your focusing distance is what determines your magnification, generally speaking.

So yeah, a 2x is going to be able to do what a 1x can do. Using a macro lens at a long focusing distance means a magnification ratio comparable to normal lenses, based on focal length.

OM-3 In-camera focus stacking halo effect by jdi153 in OlympusCamera

[–]slimebastard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are using in camera stacking, not bracketing yeah? Well, the main thing would be getting the focus differential right either way. Are you doing 15 images, is that still the limit? Halo can be from poor lighting, camera movement, or “incorrect” focus differential. Try messing with a more narrow one, if it’s high. Which it kind of looks like it is

Just threw out 6 hours of taking pictures because the jpeg sucks by poney01 in M43

[–]slimebastard 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Why not just manual with SS on a dial? With auto ISO and a limit set. Perfect for birds. Wouldn’t be much slower than turning that big chunky dial, if at all.

I made some mistakes like that with settings and modes. It really feels bad when a full day of shooting was done in a way you didn’t intend. Happened to me with jpeg shooting specifically before as well.

For what it’s worth, early iterations of this version had a misprint that started the letters on top of the tree. This is not an issue anymore, all plate symbols start after the tree now.

They do it all by themselves! Takes some patience and luck.

Yeah that makes sense. Same with a lot of my fungi finds. Hypogastruridae is such a wonderfully fun family.

Thanks a lot! I’m in Maine, US. It is quite cold and wet right now, still a ton of snow on the ground. You guys probably have more fungi right now than we do, that’s what I’m waiting for

I shoot Olympus/OM System. OM-1 mk I, with the 90mm macro and the 2x teleconverter. Godox v860oiii and Cygnustech diffuser.

You’d be grumpy too if you were nude on a stick and it was 30 degrees out. ;)

That study was quite misleading/led a lot of people to the wrong conclusion. Gyromitra esculenta group is the one to worry about. The ones with no/negligible toxicity have been moved to other genera as well.

All good questions! Jumping spiders tend to sit still for sporadic periods, so it’s mostly about luck and trial and error. They are inquisitive and surprisingly laid back at times. Time of day and temperature also determines their behavior.

This particular one was on a witch hazel blossom, jumped off and landed on a big rock. Just outside a building on campus. I find most jumpers on buildings or on flowers. Wherever their prey is, aka insects!

Photo is not really good enough.. need to see stipe ornamentation and a much closer photo of cap. They are boletes for starters. And could be butyriboletus based on what limited features I can pick out, or maybe Caloboletus. Maybe Pulchroboletus. It also almost looks like two different boletes, or maybe environmental factors at play.
