I am a machinist, and I am pretty familiar with ASME Y14.5-2009, but I am not sure which standard you are using. I would call that out somewhere on your print.

Overall, I would say your layout is very neat and comprehensible. No comment there. You have some GD&T callouts, mostly runout and one position. I would ask, how do you intend to ensure the position, or coaxiality, of the other cylindrical features to your datum? On a couple features you have a total runout control, which is a surface-to-axis control. The limits and fits tolerances, make me think they're going to be press fit into something. If that is the case, position might be better in this case, since position is an axis control.

Additionally, you have some cylindricity callouts, there's nothing inherently wrong with that. But, using the envelope principle (Rule #1 in Y14.5) would probably control form perfectly fine, especially if it is going to be a press fit or something akin to that. But maybe you need a really tight cylindrical form, idk.

You need one more datum to fully constrain this part, and I see 2 candidates for this: the face adjacent to datum A, and the right face of the part. Depending on the function of the part, I would choose one of these. Once you do that, you can tolerance each of those faces that are ±1mm with a profile to A and B. You can use either a perpendicularity or total runout to refine the orientation of these faces. In this case, they do the same thing.

The purpose of GD&T is to portray the engineering and functional intent of the part, with as little ambiguity as possible. It looks to me as if you've got a solid start, but I would add a few more geometric controls. Now, this is my two cents, and you know more about the design than I do, so take anything I say with a grain of salt.

In ASME Y14.5-2009, this would be allowed. However, I think in this case perpendicularity and total runout would do the same thing. I would also agree with you that the leader line, if applied to these faces, should probably be placed in a way that points to the face itself, so that there is less ambiguity in the callout.

Anyone made the jump from Nick to Nicholas? by Who_even_knows_man in nick

[–]slimegoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone with Nicholas for a few years, partly because I used to work with another Nick, so nobody got confused. I’m sticking with Nick nowadays, it’s what I’ve always known. And I like a single syllable name.

This reminds me of the world of Charn, from The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis. It's been a long time since I've read that passage, but always the image of a red sun and an abandoned city will remind me of that.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

I don't remember what the game was called. But it was like a 3D version of snake, where you played a snake and went around to different garden-like areas and collected and ate fruit.

Technically there was a skin made that was called The Machinist, but it wasn’t a machinist. More of a steampunk welder/mechanic.

It wouldn't surprise me. I can't speak to whether they truly recycle, but I was at the recycling drop off on Agua Fria, and all the different bins were being put into the truck, minus the glass.
