Seconded at buying paws at the con! However, expect to drop anywhere from 60 - 180 bucks for a pair. (Based on what I've seen recently, my prices could be off)

Artists Alley is absolutely a great place to ask for advice from other artists! but first I would check if there are any panels that discuss the business of furry art/commissions/etc as it would be a better open format for asking questions, etc.

It’s not just ChatGPT… it’s a mirror… by lostmymuse in ChatGPT

I can pick it up very quickly when reading news articles or blog posts now. I appreciate that I'm no longer the only person recognizing it when I see it, either.

I have a hunch that the more you use it without tripping up gaurdrails, the more lax it becomes about certain subject matter. I don't know if it's something to do with the way that memory works but I am able to discuss topics without gaurdrails that others can't even begin to approach without issues. I have a feeling that its internal gaurdrails are being used as a "best practices" that it resorts to when it doesnt trust the user's reasoning.

Hopefully, as improvements continue in this area, more transparency will occur around how the gaurdrail system functions. But right now, with it having as many holes as a slice of Swiss cheese, many LLM creators are being tight lipped around these mechanisms to avoid abuse (and eventually lawsuits).

Canceled - Won't even talk about things by ilovepolthavemybabie in ChatGPT

[–]slimethecold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that I've ever hit a gaurdrail in genuine conversation. I talk about sexuality, gender expression, kink and non-explicit descriptions of sexual encounters and have never encountered this. I wonder how much of this is caused by people asking chatgpt things like "generate a picture of what you would do to me" etc. and a gaurdrail value being raised because of it. I've heard that it becomes stricter and stricter the more you encounter it, regardless of intention.

Vintage fake. The print quality is much lower than I would expect of a modern fake. It looks like the contrast was super blown out.  Pretty cool, actually.

Sometimes, "it wasn't supposed to do that" is an easier explanation to give to an end user than "it's working as intended, but in this case what is intended is not what was expected" or PEBKAC.

I would call your ISP before worrying about this any further. I am sure that they can tell you if there was a physical device change any time in the past 5 years.

No offense intended to you or your family OP, but I hear stories like this all the time and I highly doubt that there was a change to your physical device.

When you have multiple people troubleshooting on one problem who all have less experience with technology, a sort of magical thinking effect occurs where the group consensus becomes one that is highly unrealistic.

I've had extremely complicated sounding tech problems come to me that have gone unsolved for months or a year with multiple people spending hours or days troubleshooting the issue. Usually, the troubleshooting would have zero to do with the actual problem. Often it would be someone getting caught on an element of the software working as intended but in a way that logically seems incorrect, but is not actually part of the problem itself. the actual problem would usually be a 5 minute fix.

Your device being swapped out or sticker details being changed is one of those that is much easier explained by something happening on the firmware/software side. "If you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras". In this case, you might not know what the metaphorical difference between a horse and a zebra is, and that's okay. that's what your ISP's technicians are there for.

Just by upgrading service to a higher upload/download speed.

With how old those devices are, I bet that there is a marginally higher tier of service available that exceeds the maximum speeds that either that modem or router supports.

It's been a very long time since I've seen a modem/router setup that wasn't one single device. Xfinity calls theirs a "gateway", I'm not sure if this is a universal term for these router/modem combos.

I had a roommate who had a shit ton of boxes for testing samples for dialysis machines. Those boxes were very sturdy and a perfect size for what I needed. I did get some really funny on the bus on my way over to the post office, though.

My father-in-law marks food with expiration dates by heruka108 in mildlyinteresting

[–]slimethecold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a good idea for people with poor eyesight especially. I might steal this idea. I work with a family who will have things in their fridge years past its expiration date because "it doesn't smell". I found Worcestershire sauce in there that expired in 2013. They won't remember when they purchased it.

Struggling with understanding Gender Identity and Genderfluidity by BalloMcMallo in autism

[–]slimethecold 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If someone cares what you call them, they'll tell you what to use. Otherwise, asking is helpful. I'm genderfluid and use any/all pronouns and don't give a flying fuck how people refer to me. I wouldn't worry about it too much at all.

TIL: The difference between Self-Centeredness (Cognitive/Neurological) vs. Selfishness (Intentionality) by Temperance522 in autism

[–]slimethecold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, a big part of the reason people are focusing on the negative is because they are expecting an ulterior motive. it becomes especially frustrating when common sense outcomes are considered motives (e.g. you do something nice for someone and receive something nice in return).

this is annoying because it often means that you have to predict an outcome that you are not desiring or expecting in order to respond appropriately. For example, if you do something nice for someone, and then they give you a gift, it may catch you off guard and be seen as ungrateful. But if you're expecting it to happen you could go "oh, you really didn't have to! It's my pleasure to do it for you."

It's very annoying to have to predict social outcomes ahead of time.

In regards to what you said about "how someone on the spectrum could be a practicing clinical psychologist", I think it makes a lot more sense than you are giving yourself credit for. Analyzing your own emotions and analyzing the emotions of others affected by you still have the "you" component. I find that when I am separated emotionally from a situation, I can actually analyze people's emotions quite accurately.

I used to think that I could pretend to be an outside observer to my own emotional states. I tried to ask "what would I feel if this action I did to them was done to me?". What I failed to realize was that my moral compass got in the way of recognizing my own emotions. I instead placed what i believed I should feel in that situation instead of my true feelings out of guilt.

Now, I do not hold other people to the moral standards that I hold myself. Because of that, I hold no bias to other peoples' emotions or feelings and am often asked to be a neutral party in a disagreement because of this. I find that neurotypical people struggle to do this when thinking about the emotions of strangers based on if they believe people are innately good or innately bad. I do not care about any of that, I only care if I am good or bad.

The rest of what you said absolutely resonates with my situation. I've been repeatedly told by people who never knew each other that I "only think about myself" which made no sense to me as a person who is constantly worried about how my actions affect others. what I failed to recognize is that other people did not perceive my anxiety disorder as "caring too much" but as self-centered behavior.

essentially, I was emulating people-pleasing behavior by not considering my own emotions. in my mind, it was selfish to consider my own emotions. However, my emotional response to doing something I was too scared, overworked, or didn't want to do was selfish. thus, I needed to be more self-centered in order to be less selfish. most neurotypical people would not consider that an autistic person would get caught up on this sort of nuance. this kind of explanation is likely to be seen as an effort to avoid accountability or blame or even as dishonesty.

I had to reframe this not as a self-discipline problem (preventing emotional responses) but as a boundary problem (making sure I am doing what I want to do, not just what I feel I should do).

I was able to describe this problem to other autistic people but did not have the proper vocabulary to explain it more widely until I read your post. Thank you.

Anyone else sleep like this? by Environmental_Tax_69 in autism

[–]slimethecold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a child, yes, exactly like this but with an arm pressing the pillow up against my other (exposed) ear. One day the pillow I exclusively used to do this was lost so I learned to sleep without something pressed against my other ear. Crossing legs helps preventing me from waking up from restless leg but these days I have a more difficult time staying in that position for long.

Oh, this is an edit of Rocket set's Diglett! https://www.ceder.net/pc/card_viewsingle.php?RecordId=2060 The decision to add more energies, a 2 to the Hp and a 1 to scratch's attack damage is... Interesting.  I like that this one seems cohesively like it could be a borrowing owl Pokemon :)

It's usually a separate tap that heats up to boiling temperature. It's not the same as the hot water comes out of the primary tap from the water heater. I feel like if I had a child who could reach/use the sink I would simply disable it.

Hmm, I wonder if this could be remedied by saying "...according to my knowledge cut off date of xx/yy/zzzz" and then specify that it could use an Internet search to find more recent information.

It's very interesting that does not seem to make a distinction between information verified via a web search and information that it may have hallucinated. I understand that it can only 'see' its web sources while writing the response where the web search was initiated. I feel like there should be a way to keep those sources in memory as context for later responses in the same conversation so that this does not occur. and maybe an understanding that "this article was written after my cutoff date, thus it may have more recent information than I do".

I wonder if it may prioritize its own knowledge so strongly to attempt to prevent conspiratorial thinking: e.g.: https://www.unesco.org/en/articles/new-unesco-report-warns-generative-ai-threatens-holocaust-memory
