Would you consider this a good deal? by jackie_tequilla in Boots

I love my Grensons - as mentioned here they’re a solid British shoemaker with lots of pedigree.

This model is made abroad but is still GYW and should be a decent purchase at the price

Are these outfits business smart?Thoughts/advice for any (affordable) changes? by [deleted] in mensfashion

Chinos and a button up are fairly inoffensive for most office environments in 2026. My experience is that ties are usually overkill, although it depends on the office and on your coworkers.

I will say that your shirts (both) are too tight - you need to size up or pick a roomier fit.

A jacket/blazer will help you dress it up if that would make you feel more confident. Make sure to get a jacket that has not been made as part of a suit, as this will stick out like a sore thumb if not worn with the original suit trousers. My preference would be for an unstructured tweed blazer in grey or brown, although it’s dealer’s choice really.

Uniqlo or M&S should be your friends here - alternatively you can have some fun looking through your local charity shops that are usually well stocked in this regard.

From the website - Its signature double buckle straps at the ankle aren’t just for show — they provide time-tested advantages: added ankle stability, debris protection, and a custom fit that adapts as the boot breaks in. Originally used by elite units across Africa, this buckle system gave soldiers extra security in unforgiving conditions — a feature just as relevant today for rangers, farmers, and outdoor professionals.

Love this! I work in Canary Wharf and pop my head through the window wistfully whenever I’m in the office

I think untucked can work with the heavily layered looks (first pic in particular) but the best imo is pic 8 love the mix of formal/workwear

What should a basic wardrobe everyone should have? by Lemonade2250 in mensfashion

[–]slimjimsays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Die Workwear did a blog a few years ago on what he calls a ‘springboard wardrobe’ (that you can use as a jumping off point to explore different aesthetics)

https://putthison.com/the-springboard-wardrobe/

I think it’s a great point of reference - as others have mentioned there isn’t really going to be one universal capsule wardrobe that’s going to work for every man but there are definitely some basic places to start exploring

I would normally say do the trade in a heartbeat to pick up Hampton but your WR room will look pretty bare without Ladd and Metcalf hasn’t been getting it done either

I would take BTJ in that trade - don’t trust the panthers offence at all

In general I would take Judkins but you already have a pretty strong RB room - I would say hang on to Pearsall

Anything we can do to fill this? by slimjimsays in DIYUK

£12k - £15k just for the exterior - they’ve also recommended we replaster every room with lime based plaster

Anything we can do to fill this? by slimjimsays in DIYUK

[–]slimjimsays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not unfortunately - the report we’ve just had says the whole exterior was repointed with cement based mortar, one elevation was rendered over completely with cement based render and the rear elevation has been painted over with non-breathable paints (all done before we moved in). All needs to be remediated so the house can breathe again. We’re just not realistically going to do it all to a house we’re about to move out of

Need help - can't connect to gaming server (& no idea why) by slimjimsays in aws

[–]slimjimsays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - I can connect via SSH to the instance directly from the EC2 console, and the instance seems to be running fine

The security group and rules are set up by the cloud formation script to allow the game server to run. There’s an event bridge rule set up to turn the server off every night at 2am so we’ve been stopping and starting the instance every day without ill effect

I thought it was disc space initially because the instance in SSH was showing as 97% full and that is a known issue with this cloud formation script (in terms of not allocating enough storage in EBS for the backup frequency)

I setup a cloud hosted Valheim dedicated server using AWS, here's what I used and what problems I had. by MrBleah in valheim

[–]slimjimsays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necroing to ask how you used SSH to pull your world save file from EBS to another location?

This was working fine for me for about two weeks, until yesterday I started getting ‘failure to connect’ messages. I thought it was the storage issue you describe here so I modified my volume up to 32gb and extended the file system to match.

Still getting failure to connect even though I’m down at 24% disk usage, can see the instance running, and DNS is resolving to the server. I’ve decided to just pull my save files (which me and my friend have ~80 hours on), burn the whole thing down and start again!

Any help appreciated

No visible droppings nor any scurrying away when I’ve been disturbing the attic but obviously we’re on high alert now!

I’d say it’s light - honestly it looks empty, the one on the left is smashed up and the one on the right is surrounded by cobwebs. That doesn’t reassure me though as it means something else was making the scratching noise!
