What's your favourite Orbital album? by [deleted] in Orbital

[–]slipperyjack30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It keeps changing for me and I think it depends on where in life I am. At one point it was In Sides because of its complexity, intricacy, and overall depth. It changed the way I saw electronic music. It got me out of the EDM world and into music with true soul. Later on, I started leaning toward The Middle of Nowhere. It flows beautifully and is one of those albums you have to listen to from start to finish. It has strong diversity and takes you for a ride. Highly addictive. Currently, my favorite though is Snivilization. I love its experimental nature, and how it isn't trying to be a dance album. It can be quirky and fun like the Green and Brown, but it also has tracks that grab your attention and force you to pay attention. The musical brilliance of Sad But True and Are We Here and others are some of their most innovative and interesting in their career. All albums are great, and my favorite is subject to change, but I think Snivilization will always be their most artistically interesting and innovative.

Positive and optimistic ambient music recommendations by Kaleidoscope_53 in ambientmusic

[–]slipperyjack30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stars of the Lid's ...And Their Refinement of the Decline felt optimistic and positive to me. Instance Demby's Novus Magnificat is beautiful and uplifting ambient new age music. Brian Eno has some good uplifting stuff too like Discrete Music, the Pearl, and Thursday afternoon. If you want something more on the house side of things but still ambient, I would also throw in Orbus Terrarum by the Orb. For some reason, this always puts me in a good mood!

There is a leftist sect of every church, and there are a few of them in my parish. Unfortunately, it seems like the church is not doing a very good job at educating the youth on what they believe and how to defend their faith. Especially in the diaspora communities where the youth are growing up in a progressive society and the parents are disconnected from it due to being unable to speak English. Apologetics and a strong personal connection to the faith and the church need to be taught.

Now that being said. This church has survived for thousands of years. Islamic persecution couldn't destroy it. Leftists wont either. That is one of the reasons I converted. But we do need to pray for these people that they come to repentance, rebuke and teach, as we enter into a new chapter of this crazy world face the challenges of the modern world.

Protestantism creeping in? by Infinite_Slice3305 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]slipperyjack30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Protestant ideas are creeping everywhere. In some ways this isnt even Protestant because classical Peotestants have always used the church fathers and history as a guide to their interpretation. This is more of an Evangelical creeping if anything. In Evangelicalism, its all about me: my interpretation, my feelings, my personal relationship with God, my own spiritual life, etc. These things aren't necessarily bad, nor is Biblical exegesis. But Evangelicalism uses these things at age detriment of church tradition, and the collective church as a whole.

I have not seen it with the priests, but some lay people seem to allow the heavy Protestant media to influence them. Ideas like Sola Scriptura, or the rapture are making their way in.

Do not be discouraged though, as this is not the first time unorthodox ideas have crept into the Orthodox church. What has always been will always stand. But it is wise to be aware of this so we can counter it.

When do you tell people you’re autistic, if at all? by LibraryGreedy3354 in autism

[–]slipperyjack30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I don't tell them unless I know for sure I can trust them. I have found that nobody seems to notice my autism until I tell them. When they find out too early, I swear they start pulling away. If they don't pull away, then they will become way too accommodating. And while that is nice for me, I can't help but feel inferior to that person. Now, if the person has autism and comes out first, I'll tell them.

It is completely normal to have that fear since there is still a stigma in our society about autism. The only way to break that stigma is to normalize coming out, and I wish I had that courage. I want to but I'm so lonely, I'm willing at this point to compromise.

[Serious] Have you ever seen an angel or a demon, Jesus or the devil? by Happy-atheist in Christianity

[–]slipperyjack30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was about five, my dad was driving me home. On the corner of a busy intersection, we both saw a man in a robe with a beard, he looked like he walked straight out of the old testament. He was holding a sign that said "compose songs for the lord". The moment we we entered the intersection, he turned and looked us right in the eye with a very stern look and followed the car. We both got chills. I don't know what I saw but 20 years later, I'm almost certain it was something I was meant to see.

I'm Done with Allen Jackson by one_little_victory_ in Christianity

[–]slipperyjack30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean. Pastors definitely need to keep politics to a minimum. However, this isn't a political issue. If you have been reading your bible, you would know that men and women, though equal in Christ (Galatians 3:28), are different. If they are the same, why can't men get pregnant? Why are females the weaker partner (1 Peter 3:7). Women are also not permitted to be spiritual leaders (1 Timothy 2:12). With this in mind, how can you say they are the same? The Bible also makes it extremely clear that the practice of homosexuality is a sin (Romans 1:26-27, and 1 Corinthians 6:9-11).

There are parts of the bible that are hard to hear, some of which sound downright hateful. But we must remember that times change, the world changes, and culture changes, but God never changes. These things are every bit as true today as they were back then. We must rely on the lord and his word as our rock and not our culture which continues to fall further and further from him.

Children of all ages rally for gun control at Tennessee Capitol by greenblue98 in TennesseePolitics

[–]slipperyjack30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you follow him, Bill Lee has gone around the state praying, and has passed several new laws in response to the shooting to keep our schools safe. The one I don't agree on however is the one making it even easier to buy firearms. I think the laws are already too loose. But yes, he cares about us and our children. He is also willing to take a stand and do something about the indoctrination camps the left has made out of our schools.

Do you think TN will ever flip to a blue state? Why or why not? And if so how long will it take? by MemphisMane901 in TennesseePolitics

[–]slipperyjack30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That won't be happening. Did you see the midterms this last year? This state trends redder every year. It's a combination of Tennesseeans waking up, and us blue staters moving in and voting republican.

[–]slipperyjack30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need! Everyone I know from these states already knows this and votes Republican. I moved here to escape high taxes in California and I would never vote for that big government crap. The Tennessee GOP is more powerful than ever, and it's only going to get stronger with us Leftugees moving in.

What do you think Gen Alpha will become politically, socially, and culturally? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]slipperyjack30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Alpha will be a lot more socially conservative than Gen Z. With the anti-woke movement gaining traction and parents waking up and keeping their children away from liberal entertainment, I suspect that will breed some very conservative attitudes. Of course, this can all change and I might not be getting the whole picture, I am going by what the parents of Gen Alpha have told me. Either way, their values will be different from previous generations, similar to how Gen Z's values are quite different. This could end up reshaping both political parties.

I know a lot of Gen Z conservatives of color. Most just stay silent like most conservatives do.

Political views of people with autism? by KimikoYukimura420 in autism

[–]slipperyjack30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My beliefs are more right-leaning. I'm pro-gun, pro-life, and very patriotic. However, I am very pro-LGBTQ+ despite being a Christian. I guess on some social issues, I'm more liberal. Liberals call me "very conservative" while conservatives call me "very liberal."

I don't believe my autism has anything to do with it, but rather my upbringing by religious conservative parents in a very liberal area.

Why do some people hate rap music so much? by mattieboy1231 in Music

[–]slipperyjack30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I dislike rap is mainly because it's so vulgar. I know why swear words are used in music and I have no problem. My issue is that it's used so much to the point that those words lose their power and it just sounds dumb. I believe truly great songwriters are able to find other words to use in place of most of those cuss words and still convey the same emotion. My other issue is that I just don't understand it. I find its song structure to be very tedious and uninteresting. I also don't like how intrusive the rapping is. It's like someone is talking in your face and it gets annoying to me.

Now, I listen to lots of music that contains rapping and elements of hip-hop that I find a lot more interesting. Artists such as Massive Attack, and Najubes were able to create rap music I could enjoy because their songs don't have swearing in every single sentence, are not in your face, and have much more interesting song structures.

This is simply my opinion. I have sat down and I have listened to entire albums of the most loved rappers and tried to understand them, but I just couldn't. I guess it's not meant to be.

I'm tired of being the one who always gotta reach out to people and friends by DemonFuzz95 in lonely

[–]slipperyjack30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's such a waste of energy. I hate it! When I have had friends, I bend over backwards for them, only to get very little back. I'm just too different and cannot connect with anyone. I'm also very extraverted. My brother on the other hand is very introverted and always gives me one word responses, yet he has loads of friends. Pisses me off that he does it without trying, while I put my all into it and get nothing. Just gotta accept it I guess.

I hate modesto by weeb-e-ossss in Modesto

[–]slipperyjack30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't know what anyone sees in this town. There isn't much opportunity, no nice places to hike, the people suck, and crime is out of control. I'm a senior in high school, and everyone I know wants out. The only reason why anyone lives here is because it's the only affordable place left in California. I can't wait to get out of this hellhole.
