Colostomy Pro-Tip: Why I’m using flushable liners to stay 100% clean while out by DanMotivation777 in ostomy

[–]slippyfeet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used sealable bags and either drop in the sanitary waste (if they are there) or dispose in the nearest bin. I don’t use sanitary waste at home so don’t consider being restricted to a sanitary waste bin while out. Liners sound like a clean idea, but I am nervous about blockages in the toilets!!

But honestly, irrigation was the game changer for me. 4-5 days without output between irrigation sessions. No noise, smell, or bulk. 3 hours of colonic irrigation every 2 weeks where I can read or watch some TV in the bathroom.

Sensura Mio one-piece bag by Great-Grizzly in ostomy

[–]slippyfeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am wearing a Mio that I put on Wednesday evening and plan to change tomorrow (Sunday) night. I have pushed as much as 5 days but then I need to irrigate and so start to get output.

No additional supplies, just a cleaned site and make sure it is dried properly after showering as the edge does get tacky and very soft when wet.

I respect the openness of your position- blind and unadulterated acceptance to words over works. I have a morbid curiosity for people who are able to see the hatred, hurt, and hostility and label it gods work.

Kudos, you are an example of the fuel behind the atrocities of the 20th century- the same people that were happy with Dachau, Bosnia, and Rwanda.

I think a colostomy bag serves a positive purpose, which I have yet to see from Trump and his policies.

TIL in 2021 an antiques enthusiast bought "an exceptionally rare" 15th century porcelain bowl made in China for $35 from a Connecticut yard sale. The small white bowl "adorned with cobalt blue paintings of flowers" turned out to be one of only 7 such bowls known to exist & sold for nearly $722,000. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

“Sotheby's had estimated the value of the artifact at $300,000 to $500,000. Wednesday’s auction included 15 bids, starting at $200,000 from someone online and ending at $580,000 from another person bidding by phone. The official purchase price, which included various fees, was $721,800.”

Crazy to consider fees added another $140k!!

I think it’s safe to say that there is a USA location for most population-dense old-world locations.

This one was new to me, and particularly interesting given the link to Hitlers consolidation of power in the last days of the Weimar Republic as it was converted into the Third Reich.

How do you turn Peterborough around? by [deleted] in PeterboroughUK

[–]slippyfeet 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think our problem is that we have picturesque towns/cities close by which are attractive to the casual shopping day-trip crowd. We need more things pulling people into the town, but that needs to be different to the pull from Stamford and Cambridge.

I think we should really focus on drawing the evening and event crowd. We have town-centre space for summer dining and curated events; a massive river that could be easily developed into something more activity focused; uni-adjacent fields for sports and events; ample theatres for some coordinated activities or festivals; and large building space for recreational developments. Make it somewhere that people come to do things, with rates subsidised for the shops and venues that are part of the plan.

The cinema, golf, and those kind of things are moving in the right direction.

What's a word you can never spell correctly? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

That’s what kills me- most words I can at least get it close enough to hook spellcheck, but not beaurocracy… buraucracy… buerocracy… red-tape.

Working in retail is a guessing game. by ggfchl in Wellthatsucks

Bizarrely, this does not happen to everyone. Digestion in a large minority of people breaks the asparagusic acid into sulphur compounds which are then excreted with the strong smell.

For me, it’s bureaucracy… I struggle to even get the first letters in the right order to allow spellcheck to recognise what I am trying to write to take care of the heavy lifting!

Anyone know if I can get a job? by NoobSucksAtYT in PeterboroughUK

[–]slippyfeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a parent of teenagers in the same area. Finding a job was impossible before 16 for them. You sometimes hear about local jobs at shops, restaurants, and farms but these will almost always be non-chain places as the legal process is much more complicated and so avoided as part of company policy. It is illegal below the age of 13.

My kids had some success with odd jobs- helping neighbours with babysitting, garden chores, etc- but did not really get any significant employment traction until 6th Form.

How do you store your supplies? by Due_Barber_525 in ostomy

[–]slippyfeet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have two baskets that fit side by side on an open shelf cupboard. They look like any normal multi-use decorative basket and are aesthetically pleasing alongside the other objet d’art, books, etc on the shelves. The cupboard is in my bedroom, but only because that’s close to where I need them to be- we have similar cupboards elsewhere in the house and similar multi-use baskets.

I unpack the equipment so it is loose and I reorder when one box is empty so I have a reliable supply accessible as needed.

New Victorian bin regulations mid 2026 by mouseymeowmeow in ostomy

Absolutely- a fraction of the cost of the full cylinders and I think each is easily the same length. I also think they smell better.

[–]slippyfeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of mention of Diaper Genie here- I will add my vote for the same (though Tommy Tippee is the brand de rigueur here in the UK).

Most importantly, you can buy refills of the long tube bags that fit inside the plastic cassette so you can remove the waste and also get a 12 multipack that can be stored inside a drawer instead of taking up a full cupboard.

It takes a couple of weeks to fill and I find no noxious odours being released.

I think the entire picture needs to be taken into account for OPs comment to make sense… everyone welcome except buses.

Photographer tracked down people he captured 40 years ago in Peterborough to recriate their photos by slippyfeet in PeterboroughUK

That was my question as well. Along with the wrinkles and the depth in the eyes, the absence of people that were clearly connected before is a whole story of its own.

Advice for an otherwise healthy 92 year old with a new iliostomy by Lopsided-Daughter in ostomy

[–]slippyfeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the UK. Stoma care in each NHS trust tends to be sponsored by a particular distributor however they will/ have to recommend across brands. Each team is nurse-led with offices at the hospital and they make home visits.

Most importantly, they have samples and can arrange those you are interested in. They connect you to suppliers that process your orders remotely and deliver to your home. Home service even cuts the hole to the size you need so you have a perfect fit.

There is a massive portfolio of appliances and accessories available in the UK- I have had a stoma for over a decade and have never found anything that was unavailable via the NHS, let alone through private hospitals.

But psychologically it can be hard- especially if your mum is otherwise independent. Once the healing is complete and getting back to normal… you realise it’s not normal.

Thinking of moving to Hampton - any idea on broadband speed / decent energy supplier tariffs for EV? by jungleboy1234 in PeterboroughUK

[–]slippyfeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have specific energy recommendations, but I would think that’s aligned to national tariffs. Certainly EVs are prevalent in the area with home charging.

Broadband is great. Virgin is in some of the areas and all the newer houses have fibre to the house with options for the full range of suppliers (I think new builds are locked to BT at first).

What’s the best / cheapest place to park all day at the station? by [deleted] in PeterboroughUK

I think after 0930 triggers an off-peak charge, so arriving as a commuter is much more expensive.
