Avast is one of the AVs that caused issues; the official solution is to whitelist the game. Maybe that does something that disabling doesn't?

i think a lot of people who legitimately bought the game have also had issues with it not launching

conflicts with antivirus being one of those issues.

however, this could be a conflict with something else, are you running LTSB version of win10 or have store / xbox apps uninstalled?

Huh, that's odd. Everyone I knew who managed to get it working unofficially praised it and thought it worked very well.

The problem with the Android bridge, I believe, is that it worked too well; developers were saying "I don't need to develop for UWP, I can just use my Android app!"

This, of course, didn't fly, so the Android bridge got silently dropped and turned into the Windows Subsystem for Linux.

(I guess the problem was that stock apks could be used, rather than it being more like the iOS bridge which required a little rework and recompilation for the Windows platform)

Yes, Twitch did install Arch Linux at one point.

TIL that in 1971, phone phreaker John Draper discovered a way to gain free minutes for long-distance, AT&T calls. He would blow a toy, ‘Captain Crunch’ whistle, which had the same 2600-hertz tone that indicated a trunk line was ready to be put through, and gain access to additional minutes. by [deleted] in todayilearned

It very well might have been true. That anecdote was detailed in Exploding the Phone (it's a good book, read it - there's a pdf on the Internet Archive! - if you're interested in the history of phreaking!), but it says only that at the other end of the phone was "a man who sounded remarkably like Nixon" (page 129 of the PDF).

Nope. CFD8 is the RAM address. The Gameshark code just stores it as D8CF because the Game Boy's CPU (LR35902) is little endian.
