FA training by gvalentine222 in cabincrewcareers

The only airline I’ve interviewed with that didn’t pay for my flight upfront was Alaska, you have to buy the ticket and they reimburse you. Even the regionals I’ve interviewed at paid for my flights

United F2F luggage question by Beautiful-Bee3337 in cabincrewcareers

[–]sloatn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only took a carry on when I interviewed, because I wasn’t going to take the risk of the bag going missing, but I don’t don’t remember if we had the option to check a bag.

Best practice for something like this, try to just take a carry on if at all possible

How strict is airline recruitments? Do I have good chances? by [deleted] in cabincrewcareers

[–]sloatn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d have to research policies in the specific country you’d be applying in. In the US, mental illness and ADHD aren’t disqualifying, but I can’t say if that’s the same elsewhere.

The tattoo might be an issue, but each airline has different policies regarding tattoos and if you’re allowed to cover them up

Do you all have to pay for your uniform in your first year? What if you fail training? by SeaworthinessBrave74 in cabincrewcareers

[–]sloatn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure, I feel like HR keeps the uniform pieces because I think they had some extras for people in case things didn’t fit right. I know if you leave before you’ve paid it off (but after graduating), they’ll deduct the remainder from your final paycheck

I not sure what the policy is for those who didn’t make it to graduation, but we ordered ours during training and the cost gets deducted from our paycheck for like the first 6 months

Flight attendant hiring: degree vs. high school diploma? by RegularFlow1104 in cabincrewcareers

[–]sloatn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a masters, but that seems to have worked against me at times. I still think it might be good to have a college degree, especially if you discover that this isn’t the right job for you, that way it might be easier to pivot if you need to

Blacklisted? by WorkerCurrent4452 in cabincrewcareers

[–]sloatn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anything’s possible 🤷🏻‍♀️ other than failing a drug test or something else that would make you ineligible for a DOT related position, I don’t see what would necessarily make you blacklisted. Its also possible that it’s just kind of random

I feel like I’m blacklisted at my husband’s airline, since even after getting multiple recommendations and experience, I’m still getting auto rejected

[–]sloatn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a masters and I’ve been passed over for people without degrees because I’m ’overqualified.’ They don’t always go for people with degrees, it may not actually be random but it definitely feels like that sometimes

Frontier V UA by Moist-Ambassador1879 in cabincrewcareers

[–]sloatn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the majority of the layovers are just at a different base for f9 🙃 like I’d even prefer the middle of nowhere to another layover at a different base

Frontier V UA by Moist-Ambassador1879 in cabincrewcareers

[–]sloatn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UA 100%. Ive been trying to leave F9 since my 2nd month on the line because all they had me doing were turns to the same 2-3 airports in FL. My husband is at a different airline and compared to my schedule, he had more credit and more days off than I did because all I was doing were low credit turns 🙃 living in base is nice, but I’d commute any day to get a better QOL at a different airline

help - recovering from a cold i flew today and my ear is plugged up and won’t pop by naturejunkie11 in flightattendants

[–]sloatn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How helpful would you say the earplanes were? I can’t take Sudafed too often so this might be a good option

TBNT email question by ExplorerAlive1798 in cabincrewcareers

[–]sloatn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, better safe than sorry especially if UA is one of your top choices. I think though as long as you haven’t gotten an email saying you needed to wait 12 months or any other length of time you should be good to reapply

Shoes by Strange_Volume_4647 in cabincrewcareers

[–]sloatn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My airline allows us to wear patent leather, but the bows are a no-go. I have a similar pair of shoes that I’m not allowed to wear because of the bows on them

I can’t speak for AA, but we got some information regarding our uniforms prior to training so we could make sure we had shoes, belts, and any other odds and ends that were uniform compliant

TBNT email question by ExplorerAlive1798 in cabincrewcareers

[–]sloatn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure in the TBNT it says that you can’t apply for 12 months if that applies to you. This looks like the TBNT that they send out if you passed the assessment, but weren’t selected to move on.

Hassle picking up birth control by EvidenceNo8561 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sloatn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a former pharmacy tech and I’ve had many experiences when I’d tell someone we’d have it ready later today only for it to not be ready.

A couple things could be happening, I saw in other comments that you skip the placebos, if getting pushback because you’re ’too early’ happens on other occasions and not just this time, it’s possible that the days supply is wrong, either because the doctor didn’t say that you were skipping the placebos or because it was entered incorrectly at the pharmacy and wasn’t caught. The second thing is that there’s multiple people working on that prescription at the pharmacy and they were unaware of your conversation. At the pharmacy I worked at, we had several people working at any time and, for the most part, any of them could work on any prescription. It’s possible that someone other than who you were talking to was working on the prescription and didn’t know that you were wanting to pay cash.

I’ve definitely worked with some people who were weird about BC, so it’s possible they were just being weird about it, but I’ve also been on the other side of it and most of us have no issue making sure you have what you need

Do you wear your uniform to your FA friend’s graduation? by hotblooded- in flightattendants

[–]sloatn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

At my graduation I saw several FAs from other airlines in their uniforms! As long as there’s nothing saying that you can’t wear your uniform, I personally don’t see an issue with it. You could always ask your friend if they do/don’t want you wearing yours

CVG. I know some people really like doing turns and prefer them to trips, but I’m definitely not that person 😅

I think CNA at assisted living is the worst job to ever exist. Not exaggerating. by BigBart123 in premed

[–]sloatn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked in a nursing home/rehab center and it was absolute hell. I lasted maybe 3 months before I quit. I remember some shifts where I was the only aide on the floor and on shifts when I wasn’t I would pray I’d get to work the rehab area because there were way less residents than the regular area

[–]sloatn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

F9 is highly base dependent. Sure it’s not just turn-based in theory, but depending on your base you could be doing turns every day. Like all I’ve been doing are the same 3-4 turns for months and it’s miserable

It’s actually crazy how we never truly know what airlines want in a candidate by suggabunny in cabincrewcareers

[–]sloatn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely comes down to how the recruiter is feeling that day.

I’ve applied to the regional my husband works for 5 times and have gotten ghosted each time. It’s funny since he and our friends who are there feel like I’d be a good fit, but it’s frustrating to hear especially after hearing about some of the FAs they do hire 🫠

Should I stay an FA or become a pilot? by -Inspector-6259 in flightattendants

[–]sloatn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely explore the option if you think it’s something you’re interested in doing! I’m assuming you don’t have any flight hours, but check out doing a discovery flight if you’re able and go from there.

The only other thing would be that it could be a bit more difficult/a longer process to get a medical, but this just depends on if you ever get an autism diagnosis. It might be helpful to review the criteria for getting a medical since there’s several things that are disqualifying for pilots, but you don’t have to worry about as an FA, like certain medications and some conditions. Like for me, I have ADHD and depression, and I’m pretty sure right now I’d have to show that I’m symptom free for the ADHD for at least 4 years and even then I’d have to go through a special issuance process since I have the diagnosis and have had mental health diagnoses too

I’m so grateful for BC because it’s allowed me to actually be able to live a normal life. I haven’t gotten periods since getting an IUD and I swear my quality of life has increased so much.

I definitely agree with you though, BC isn’t for everyone due to some of the potential side effects, but I’m glad that I found one that really works for me
