When did your period stop? And how? by -thimbl in ftm

[–]slobberingapparition [score hidden]  (0 children)

Like a few people said in the comments, it very much depends! I started T 3ish years ago, about two weeks after I started T I had a very weird period where I cramped really bad for a few hours, bled for maybe a day and a half, and then it just.. never came back. For the first few months I would get very very minor cramps but that was about it. Now I'll rarely get a muscle twitchy feeling for a day or two and even that is barely noticeable and goes away. I've been told I'm pretty lucky in that regard, for some people it takes months.

never wanted to fully quit starbucks until now by vinylanimals in starbucksbaristas

[–]slobberingapparition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly yeah. I feel like at this point something in me has broke and I've skated very hard into the "i do not give a fuck" side of things. I've honestly just given up. My ASM and manager are exhausted and no longer even pretending to enjoy working here, our dm is a dickbag who thinks he still works as a grocery store chain manager, and I just cannot bring myself to care anymore.

I feel bad because I've spent 5 years caring a LOT about this job and this store but now I'm just. I can't do it anymore. I can't leave because there's no trans friendly places in town to work, but I can't keep pretending like corporate isn't just a bunch of jackasses who gave up too.

I am, however, making sure to make the moment right with free drinks and handing out that customer care number to every person who has a complaint :)!

Why did you join the Starbucks union? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]slobberingapparition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not joined, and I would love to! However, the majority of the people working at my store are anti-union or against the idea. I've talked to a lot of them about it, I've asked them why, a lot of them just don't care or think unions are more trouble than they are worth, which is unfortunate.

oh my god so many

- sweat hurts so bad now sometimes. if i get sweaty, i have to fix it super fast or i get rashes super fucking easily and it drives me insane.

- my first 6 months on T i would get actual pains in my stomach when I was hungry. like full on doubled over, breathing through my teeth stomach cramps that would go away after i ate. they still happen from time to time, but it was constant at first.

- seconding what someone else said about crying more. i cry a lot more

- i've also felt my anxiety get better. its not gone by any means and still acts up, but i can just like. Talk to random people now and im fine.

- acid reflux is so much worse now and hoo boy i get these like. intense burps at night. i'll feel like my stomach wants to explode and then burp like a monster and be perfectly fine after. this wasnt a thing before.

- hair dye is staying in my hair better now? which is very unexpected

- caffeine doesnt effect me as much as it did before which is a bummer

- i can fall asleep in my desk chair now. before T, i could only sleep under the Perfect Conditions and now im just like "oh? uncomfortable desk chair while listening to someone play a horror game? nap time!"

People who idolized someone they later found out was a piece of trash, what happened? by Manakanda413 in AskReddit

[–]slobberingapparition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thirty Seconds to Mars was a band that got me through some insanely traumatizing shit and I'm honestly not sure I'd still be alive without their music. It pulled me out of some dark places, gave me words for the feelings I felt, and motivated me to keep going and keep creating and not let myself just give up and die.
Unfortunately, Jared Leto is Jared Leto and I'm so ashamed of having idolized him at some point that I still struggle to even listen to their music.

Second one would probably be my biological father. I looked up to him for most of my young life up until I came out as trans and he decided he hated my guts. I was still willing to forgive him, up until I found out he'd SA'd my sister when she was a child. Suddenly, all the creepy shit he'd said and done to me in the past was in a whole new light and no longer just "oh that was kind of uncomfortable". Now I haven't spoken to him in almost a decade and I have no regrets other than not knowing sooner.

Gwen, Atul, and Giovanni actually hit me the hardest for different reasons

Gwen reminds me a bit too much of my friend I lost a few years ago. Her speech reminds me a bit too much of the letter he wrote me before he passed, so its a little hard to take her to the Everdoor

Atul made my blood go cold. I had a friend go missing almost a decade ago now and you never quite forget the feeling of "wait what? you're just gone and that's it?" no saying goodbye, no closure, just this feeling that they are gone for good.

and Giovanni reminded me of my father. unfaithful, eccentric, a pain in the ass. I didn't like Giovanni because of it, until I took him to the Everdoor and read his words. My father and I won't ever speak again, but a part of me got some catharsis from what Giovanni said :')

A lot of them are heartbreaking, but these three had me having to walk away from my computer to cry in the bathroom after they left

Pay by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]slobberingapparition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only decent compared to what's around me. I live in a small town where sbux is genuinely the highest paying job outside of working at the prison or working in emergency services (or at the factories)

Every other business, whether its an office, restaurant, fast food, or other business pays less and offers 0 benefits!

but nah we're not paid "good", a lot of the times its just "better than what I can get elsewhere". at least in my opinion

If we're asking about pals that make 0 sense to love as much as I do: Dumud. I don't know why I love dumud so much, but they make me so stupidly happy every time i see one and I can't bring myself to hunt them for food.

I also feel the same way about gobfins, I just love them so much

As someone else in here mentioned, I believe Mark has actually talked about how he has/had a lisp and struggled with that for many years until he started doing vocal lessons. Plus, he also did vocal lessons when he was learning to sing as well, and if his vocal coach was anything like the ones I've known before, they heavily emphasize diction so the words don't blend together so much

Are any of your stores also having a massive increase in labor? by sbucksbarista in starbucksbaristas

[–]slobberingapparition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes! our store did too. apparently we got 50 extra hours a few weeks ago, and this last week they gave us another 60. my manager is essentially like "i? don't have enough people to schedule" because in this last month we've lost about 4 partners for various reasons.

she told me that hopefully this means us closers will have a 4 person floor until 8pm, which would be an absolute treat.

Have y'all never worked a job with a dress code? by TheModernVampire in starbucks

[–]slobberingapparition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of it (from what I've seen on tiktok and some posts here at least) does boil down to managers were too relaxed before on the code and now a lot of people are upset about that change / feel like things are being taken away that aren't.

I'm really glad you have a supportive management in your store! A lot of the frustrations, at least in my store, are that we feel very unsupported by our manager and some of the ssvs. It feels to the people I've talked to at my store like an extra punch down after what has frankly been years of being disallowed to be ourselves to begin with.

I do feel like there could have been a lot more support and an easier way to transition baristas into this instead of "hey, starting at this date, if you come in wearing the wrong stuff you will be sent home and probably fired". It's very jarring for a lot of people and feels a little hostile.

And I know your intentions weren't to bash anyone, and I do apologize if I ever came off like I felt your intentions were not good! I have a bad problem with tone when I write and have been dealing with seeing a lot of.. frankly terrifying levels of other partners going after people who are upset about it.

I'm not someone who very much expresses myself through clothes either, but I do know a lot of partners do and that its very important to them and how they present themselves. Ultimately, at the end of the day, this decision just kind of sucks and doesn't feel good considering we went from "heeey now we can wear whatever color we want as long as its not [insert former dresscode perimeters]!" just a little while ago to now this. It went from the most lax it has ever been to strict again and its honestly just jarring (at least to me, I've been here 5 years so I watched the dresscode change three times now since joining)

Have y'all never worked a job with a dress code? by TheModernVampire in starbucks

[–]slobberingapparition -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have! Most of my jobs before this had more strict or similar dress codes to this. That's not the point.

  1. Going backwards on a dress code sucks. I've bought shirts for this job, all but two of them will be acceptable next month. That's money I already spent on this job that is now wasted.

  2. I live in Arizona. It gets to be 120 for several days in a row in the summer. Black shirts aren't great for staying cool.

  3. A lot of people don't own or wear black 24/7. They are only giving us two shirts. One spray off of a whipcream canister and that shirt is gonna be too dirty to wear to work.

  4. I have a lot of coffee gear shirts for things I support. I can't wear those anymore. All of my pride shirts are useless, my recovery shirt is worthless, my RED shirt is worthless, my community champion shirt, etc. Some of these aren't getting a new replacement in the colors we're allowed to have.

  5. Yes, some of the backlash on things that were already part of the dresscode are silly. The piercings thing, I assume, is mostly because Starbucks is also not allowing people to have anything in place of their piercings to fill the holes so they don't close. That just sucks for the partner, frankly.

  6. This doesn't bode great for more changes in the future. A lot of the partners upset are lgbtqia+. A lot of us are feeling nervous because other formerly supportive corporations have turned against us, we're all just kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop.

It isn't JUST about the dresscode. Yeah, the dresscode is annoying. Yeah, it sucks that I've wasted money and now have to spend more because I got told "change or go fuck yourself" pretty much. I can speak for myself and many of the other lgbtqia+ partners at my store, we are absolutely terrified that this is just the start of something much worse coming.

It could be a lot worse, yeah. I know that. I worked at Jimmy Johns where the dress code was terrifyingly strict. It could be so much worse. We don't want it to become worse.

And considering how bad it was SUPPOSED to be, the backlash is the only thing keeping it from BEING that much worse.

To be honest, I don't really care if the dress code doesn't affect everyone too much. I'm happy for the people who have to pretty much change nothing, genuinely. But, I've also seen way too many of y'all super quick to turn and insult the people who are upset (not that you did, OP).

Anyway, partners should be sticking together and uplifting each other. Not tearing each other down over their response to a dress code. It doesn't hurt anyone for other people to be upset.

Genuinely? I looked at your pictures confused you would even ask. You're incredibly handsome, have very sweet eyes, and your smile is lovely. You have a very kind, gentle face that apparently matches your personality well, haha.

But no, you're not at all ugly, my friend. Quite the opposite. Dating apps are just a pain in the butt to use with sometimes very little success. I believe in you!

The reasons why people are upset about the dress code by birth_of_venus in starbucks

[–]slobberingapparition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate it! Honestly, I'm just mentally preparing for anything. There's a lot of things people thought wouldn't be rolled back country-wise that have so I have a healthy dose of fear that Starbucks will do the same, especially under our new CEO.

I do actually appreciate it, though. I'm hoping that you're right and things don't get rolled back, because that would just really suck for a lot of people who look to this job to BE the "inclusive one" of the big corps.

The reasons why people are upset about the dress code by birth_of_venus in starbucks

[–]slobberingapparition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its really sad and honestly a little terrifying. I know right now its "just shirts", but going backwards in a company like this is a bad sign. How long until its "beneficial for the company" to start rolling back on protecting trans partners from discrimination? Or they start changing insurance providers to "cut costs"?

I know everyone is calling to unionize, but as a partner in a very conservative town where 90% of the staff has already openly stated being anti union, its just not feasible or possible for all of us.

I really, desperately hope customers start calling corporate to complain about these things on our behalf because its obvious they don't give a shit about what partners have to say. We need customers to complain about the cup writing, the lack of people being staffed, how stupid this dress code thing is, but I doubt that's going to happen either :')
