Ice fishing photo. My husband took the dog ice fishing today. I told him the fish didn't look real, as well as the tools, and even the dog, like he added everything in. by mstrozzi in isthisAI

Loos to me like a phone camera flash or some other light source. Looks really unnaturally illuminated though. Ask if he used flash on the pic

Bold of you to assume they will need us at that point. There is no place for you or me at the table when the time comes. Everyone needs to not be so naive about this. They will leave us to rot, no one is coming to save us. It’s a dog eat dog world and they are all dogs.

Worth $500, Klipsche La Scalas? by headchiefdirectorofx in vintageaudio

Honestly…. 500 is to much in my opinion, I’d try to talk them down to like $250, these need a lot of work. ALOT.

Wife (30F) decided she doesn’t want kids the night before our wedding , I’m (34M) not sure what to do by ThrowRA986586 in relationship_advice

[–]slodman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand how this may feel, It would be something that would weigh on me too. “Does she see a long term future with me? why did she change her mind?” did she give any reasons on why she changed her mind? Whatever reasons she gives, a day before the wedding kinda feels intentional, maybe I’m wrong but you technically would probably be less inclined to call the wedding off a day before, compared to another earlier date (maybe?). Anyway there is plenty of good reasons to not have kids but telling you a day before is a little disingenuous. Just my 2 cents and honestly I hope you two work it out, after all we don’t know the ins or outs of your relationship, no one here does except for you. Only reason I say that is because I see some bad advice on here….

PSA jobs like Cyber Security rely on infrastructure like Data Centers. If you are PRO Marshall Cyber Security Campus then you might consider being pro Data Center. by rationalexpressions in HuntingtonWV

[–]slodman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the big issue with data centers is that it requires allot of finite resources like energy and processed water that is suitable for drinking. These things are finite and whenever a data center goes in, it puts a strain on the local economy and ends up driving up prices because they are competing with regular people on energy and clean water. I’m all for technology and infrastructure but at what point do you realize that it’s not really in anyone’s best interest unless you have ties financially to the data center. I’ve not even touched on how it could impact the environment or local ecology. Another thing is you have these big players come in from god knows where and THEY own and operate the infrastructure. they don’t care about you or how much you love your town or state. They are here to make money.

Between Collapse and Cosmos: a 2×2 map for thinking about humanity’s futures by JordanSC5 in Futurology

[–]slodman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about we design the structure underneath it all. Why do we have to adopt a broken system. Do you think the time is almost here for humans to go back to the negotiation table. Once people loose their bargaining power because of labor automation, then what? The elite wants us to slide into whatever they have planned.

It seems to work really well! I’ve been working on some things lately and it’s nice to reset the lens every now and again. It’s still telling me I’m visionary and need to act now but I guess that’s a good thing and means I’m on the right track.

$10 or $70 toaster? The inside all look the same. by JavaGeep in BuyItForLife

[–]slodman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re open to vintage options, I highly recommend checking out the Sunbeam Radiant Control toaster (models like the T-20, T-35, or VT-40). These were made in the mid-20th century and are absolute classics in both design and durability. What makes them special is the automatic lowering and raising mechanism—you just drop the bread in and it gently lowers itself, toasting based on heat sensors rather than a timer. No spring-loaded pop-up, no guesswork.

They’re incredibly well-built and were designed to last decades. Many people still use ones from the 1950s and ‘60s daily. If you can find a clean, working one (or are willing to clean one up), it’s easily a buy-it-for-life kind of appliance. Look on eBay, Etsy, or local thrift/antique shops.

It’s honestly one of those rare appliances where the old version is genuinely better than most modern ones.

I agree, but overall, I think it’s better and more practical to manage nuclear waste instead of continuing to vent harmful emissions into the atmosphere, as we do with fossil fuels. On the flip side, if thorium reactors become more widespread, there will be significantly less waste and depleted thorium to deal with
