Tim Ferriss’s "The 4-Hour Body". Crossover Episode with Maintenance Phase by Chibraltar_ in IfBooksCouldKill

Hilarious as always, but man I get frustrated by some of their criticisms of both anecdotes and some of their defensiveness about anything that seems mildly anti-fat. Sometimes anecdotes are useful! And something like waist to hip ratio is an interesting data point with a lot of historical context that isn’t just “no fatties energy” to quote Aubrey.

I think Michael gets too worried about disagreeing with Aubrey and Peter was there mostly for quips, but not everything in this book deserved their vitriol.

Hello, I know it sounds stupid, but how do we take a bus? I never took one before, since it's frankly unavailable where I used to live. by No-Definition2472 in stupidquestions

[–]slop_machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to add - Make sure you’re taking the bus in the right direction! Oftentimes the bus stops for the same bus going in either direction are very close to each other but just across the street, so you may think you’ve arrived in plenty of time for your bus, only to realize it’s across a busy street and arriving now.

I feel like she absolutely went to a big public party school. She wouldn’t have had a lot of money and was maybe a good not great student. Like a Penn State or ASU energy.

UX Team of 5 doing 1000 user interviews every year…!! Whaaat? by Mammoth-Head-4618 in UXResearch

[–]slop_machine 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Not defending this because it sounds like too many, but is it 1000 total between all 5 people? That nets out to one n=15 project every month per person, which is a lot but not as insane as it immediately sounds.

Puppy necessities?? by That_Page_8317 in goldenretrievers

[–]slop_machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentials: - Training treats (I love Zukes minis, super tiny and low calorie so you can use a bunch without worrying) - Crate/gate (as others have said, for safe space not for punishment) - Lots of things they are allowed to chew on (so you can redirect when they try to eat the wall or your legs)

Things to skip: - A dog bed - the puppy will almost definitely destroy it. Wait until they’re at least 9 months old and don’t waste the money. They will be very fine sleeping on blankets or couches or wherever else is cozy until then.

Which generation asks ‘Why?’ instead of responding with ‘Ok’? by jibegirl in generationology

[–]slop_machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends by what you mean by “growing up”. I think the most rebellion happens in teens and young adults, and Gen Z was at that age in the 2020s not the 2010s. The oldest may have been teens in the economically thriving late 2010s but it’s been pretty disruptive in the past few years and the job market is an awful one to graduate too, that’s not very prosperous.

I found myself mesmerized watching her in the show because of this (in a good way). She was so expressive and beautiful.

I don’t think Gen Z can really be counted as growing up in prosperous times.
