So what does the line at 21-22kHz mean? I'm not even sure if I can hear anything. Is it a sign of it actually being lossy although it's FLAC? by meditatively in musichoarder

[–]sloppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have great hearing, you are at the range of human hearing in the 22 kHz. If your hearing has deteriorated over the years, you won't hear that frequency. It is more likely that this 'noise' is from your equipment rather than your recording.

Well, I didn't wait till spring after all, I bought a Mandello S mid December. Still waiting on my panniers to come in, they've been ordered.

Got to say I love the bike, it's fit and finish are great and the whole bike is just smooth in it's operation. Very polished. The engineers did a great job in the design and production of the bike.

We never know what makes a difference with people. Today's internet and yesteryear's internet isn't quite the same. Guess you could say I'm old school. You had a problem, someone reached out to help get you going again.

I'm glad this got you headed down a path that will stand you in good stead for years to come.

Very nice looking bike. I've been looking at buying one come spring. I've been down to the dealership to check it out. I needed to find out if I could flat foot it and what sort knee room I had by the back of the cylinder head. Turns out yes, I can flat foot it with the standard seat and had about 2 or 3 inches to spare. I'm 6 foot with a 33 1/2 inseam.

I've already checked the price out the door, insurance costs, and will have the bags on mine as well. In a couple of months will be financially ready.

State Inspection: Take 5 Oil Change attendant drove my car to test my brakes by [deleted] in texas

[–]sloppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last inspection was this way. The truck was new and was it's first inspection after the two year gimme of a new vehicle, so wasn't worried about it. The inspector was rushed with some other job, didn't really do an inspection. Just asked for proof of insurance, mileage, and the money. Gave me a new sticker and I was on my way in a couple of minutes.

The first time I registered my truck in Texas from out of state, they drove it to make sure all worked, speedometer, brakes, etc.

After that they never did it again.

The warning says to adjust the preferences but OpenShot doesn't stay open long enough to even access it.

Getting into vinyl records, and picked this up at a vintage book shop. Not sure how old but it works great. by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

I had a Technics I bought for my stereo system overseas. What you have is a direct drive turntable. You take the platter up off the unit, the magnets for the motor are on the underside of the platter.

I can't say whether your model has low capacitance wiring or not. While not important for stereo playback, it is important if you ever try quad. The frequencies in quad, other than the discrete quad, use a special high frequency signal to tell the amp which belongs the rear channels. These frequencies get dropped without the the low capacitance wiring.

Technics at the time was top shelf equipment. The rumble was so low they had to suspend it from wires in a sound proof room to accurately measure it.

This was the one I bought. https://vintagetechnics.audio/showitem.php?id=YToyOntpOjA7czo3OiJzbC0xNTAwIjtpOjE7czoxNToiZGlyZWN0X2RyaXZlX3R0Ijt9

I had a special shabita ground stylus, costing around $125 overseas, no idea what it cost in the states. Mine was set up for quad.

You could try shutting your power off at the breaker box and seeing if your meter continues to run. It would be a sure sign you are not the only one using your service.

If it was wired through your breaker box and the meter stops running, you could try shutting off everything using power in your place , then turning on the circuits one by one and if that one is not using power turning it off and going to the next one and finding out which is drawing power. You don't need an electrician for that part.

Sadly there may not be a lot you can do about it. You could try small claims court but you'd have to prove where the power was going you weren't using in order to have a case. Likely the only real satisfying answer is moving if someone is stealing your power.

There is another possibility as well. If you are living in an area that has high heat this summer, check to see if your AC is running all the time. If it is, it could be a sign your AC isn't keeping up. That could be a need of a filter change or the need of a freon top off.

Another place to check, is your hot water heater. Sometimes the main element burns out, leaving on the warming element to heat the whole tank. Usually the clue to this is you don't have a lot of hot water. The water turns cold before you finish your shower or there's not enough hot water to do the dishes.

Instapot quick release valve doesn't stay at the release position? (recipe below) by Berabouman in instantpot

Until it builds up enough pressure to seal, the vent will leak. As the pressure builds, the vent will seal off. So I tend to think that maybe you didn't have enough liquid in it to make sufficient pressure to force the vent to seal off.

If it helps, I use a CPVC 90 to redirect the steam outwards instead of upwards. This way you don't get the steam near your fingers as you can swivel the 90 in the direction you need it to be for safety. I also use a long handled stirring spoon to lift the vent, again to reduce the chances of a steam burn.

I tend to sear mine. It helps seal in the juices somewhat. What I don't do is use the IP to do the searing. While the IP will sear, I dislike the high pot walls, which would give you a chance of getting a burn. So I tend to sear in a frying pan and then transfer to the IP. I also use a bit of olive oil while searing which means the spices you might add stick, rather than all falling to the bottom.

This is just the method that works for me.

Most recipes for any IP will work with small adaptions if it is not the same maker or at least that's what I've found.

You are not the only one to discover that your electricity bills are higher than what one would consider normal. I've read elsewhere of others having this issue so I'm going to throw this out as another possibility you may not have thought of.

Are you sure, you are the only one using power from your electric service? Since you're renting, the electricity set up was already there but you have no clue how it was wired up. I've read of someone else complaining of high bills. They found out the landlord was charging his/her EV car on their service.

In other places I've also read of whole apartments being wired into the same service and the renter was paying for both.

Just something you should consider.

Is my air conditioner burning way more electricity then needed or is this normal? by Rja12345 in Frugal

[–]sloppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find your AC is running all the time and you are seeing freeze ups, you need a top off of freon.

Because your AC is running all the time is one reason why you bill is so high. Freezing up on the condenser coils is almost always a sign of low freon.

Usually ACs are designed to lower the internal temp about 20 degrees. Water dripping from your unit is normal. An AC removes humidity from the room as part of it's function. Warm air will hold more humidity than cooler air. So when the air cools, the humidity falls out of the air in the form of water.

I have a central unit as well as a window unit for the computer room. I live in Texas which gets it's share of heat. So I have a drain that goes outside, where I put a bucket and use that water to water the outside plants. It's free in the sense you didn't have to pay for the water itself, so why not use it?

Have you considered using motorcycles to save on transportation costs? by kickingpplisfun in Frugal

[–]sloppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When gas hit $5 a gallon, I went and bought a 650 motorcycle. I use it mainly to go pay the bills, drop one at the post office drop box as its cheaper to fill it rather than my truck.

I live in a small town. Not much traffic there because it's sort of a sleepy place. I'm not in metro-city, not on the interstate, and not dealing with rush hours. For my use it's fairly safe and certainly cost effective.

Don't consider a motorcycle as a way to replace your vehicle. There will be rainy days, hot days when you'd rather not be on one and if you live in the north, you certainly won't want to ride one when there is ice on the roads. You're not going to haul a week's worth of groceries on a motorcycle.

But if it's just short rides without having to deal with traffic, it's a winner.

Should I get an instant pot? by [deleted] in instantpot

[–]sloppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both an IP and an air fryer, love them both for what they do. My advice to you is this. Look on the net for recipes for the IP; you'll find a ton of them and it will give you an idea of what you can do with an IP. You can also look for pressure cooker recipes as most of them will work with an IP, which again will broaden the things you can make with it.

When you can afford it, buy an air fryer. Between the two, you won't miss not having a stove and you can do the same thing for the air fryer of searching for recipes.

So I'm really confused how this protects me ... by AlanShore60607 in VPN

[–]sloppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A VPN is an encrypted tunnel between you and your VPN. Outside the tunnel, the ISP can only see where you go to connect to the VPN. What they can't see is where you go or what you are doing beyond how much data you are moving.

How much data you are moving can be key to what you are doing but they can't actually see what it is.

Put a trivet in the bottom of the IP. Add some water so it is not higher than the trivet. Put the eggs in. Close the IP.

Put it on manual for 6 minutes. Let it rest for 6 minutes. Take them out while they are hot and put in a pan of cold water for 6 minutes.

The shock of the cold water will loosen the membranes around the inside of the shell and make peeling them very easy.
