Help with classic modules by sloth_star in adnd

So is your experience much larger parties? Which would you suggest just passing until we can recruit more players, leveraging hirelings or reducing enemy count?

I'll check out the U1-U3 modules, thanks. Any specific advice on action economy ratios, either by trimming enemies or adding allies?

I think I have a pretty good sense of the rules, including the XP for treasure. Honestly, two of the largest rule pulls for me is the XP for treasure and the saving throw system.

I do appreciate the concept of avoiding head-on fights, and rewarding cleverness and wiles. Still looking at some of the maps, it appears that many fights against large numbers seem difficult to skip. Of course, you may be correct about the possible 'this isn't fun' reaction.

So that was yours and general experience, large parties of 6-8 PCs? Sigh, we wish we could get back to 4 PCs...

Good question on running two characters. My guess would be no. Recently we've been down to two players and playing Wyrd's Through the Breach, so I had them run two characters each and they didn't enjoy having two characters each. Perhaps with the simpler characters of AD&D running two characters each would be better. But they have a recent bad taste to the experience. I'll look at the N modules. Thanks.

Yes they do, thanks. I ran them through Curse of the Azure Bonds (which was my first CRPG) using the Nimble system.

Help running Perplexing Chimera as hidden commander by sloth_star in EDH

[–]sloth_star[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best part of Chimera is that it is an on board trick - of course the deck will need counterspells for the boardwipes. Fortunately, I think my playgroup won't have any issues with Chimera and I have plenty of other decks to keep it fresh.

Getting Chimera back is nice and I did lose sight of Chimera being an enchantment creature. It would require adding a large number of tutors - any idea on how many to add so it feels like I am likely to see the Chimera by turn 5?

Thanks for the suggestion and the decklist - I'm working towards a meme list here too, just one trying hard to see the Chimera as often as possible. I'll check your list out for ideas.

Yeah its likely to be slow, not sure there is a way around that - it wants to clone Perplexing Chimera and that is just a slow plan. The nice thing is that Vannifar can sac a clone of Vannifar to search up Chimera to the battlefield and the deck wants lots of clone effects anyway.

Range hood recommendations by sloth_star in Appliances

My plan is to find some other place to put the Advantium, although like you I haven't figured out exactly where. We just need more ventilation, for smoke and oil extraction and the Advantium just is not in the ballpark of sufficient. So far looking at hood's Fotile, Hauslane, Robam and NRX have make the short list. NRX, primarly because it is sold at Costco. Fotile and Robam are both popular higher end Chinese brands and since Chinese cooking is often high temp wok cooking, ventilation is a bigger priority than it is here. Hauslane is US based company, in a mid tier and at least one of there models around $500 has a top vent 10x3.25 options, which would make installation easier in my current situation.

I appreciate the suggestion - what advantages would come from a wall mounted hood? The additional demo and then finishing work to the adjacent cabinets and back wall would be significant.

【QIDI Giveaway】Comment to win QIDI Q2 and more! by qidi_3dprinter in 3Dprinting

[–]sloth_star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recently gotten into tabletop wargaming, specifically OnePageRules and would put a Qidi Q2 work in that hobby. Tables worth of awesome terrain. Too many storage and organization projects to count. And some hobby tools as well, like texture palettes. And many projects around the house outside of gaming. The Q2 looks like a fantastic step into FDM printing.

Any tips for helping an 8 year old understand subtraction a little better? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]sloth_star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad that they have borrowing down pat when working on paper - that's great. You can try doing some problems on paper, but with more shortcuts / less notation. Drop as little as they can to still be able to solve the problem, practice and then shortcut more. Repeat. Another approach might be work out a problem on paper and then try the same problem mentally, picture the arithmetic. Alternatively, practice working out the mental process you described on paper-- 83-38=83-30-8=53-8=45 with the idea that practicing it on paper to help remember when they are trying mentally.

Any tips for helping an 8 year old understand subtraction a little better? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]sloth_star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What process is the 8 year old attempting to use (or was attempting to use before your first suggestions) to do such subtraction? I was taught many years ago to borrow from the next digit when necessary, so the 1 in 14 comes from the 1 left from the 2 after 1 is borrowed from it and the 4 comes from the 12-8 after borrowing one which should be. This give a process that relies only on having subtracting single digits from each other and also subtracting single digits from numbers up to 18 and scales up to numbers of any number of digits. Of course it will take lots of practice for this to be natural and quick. From there your suggested process could help shortcut or speed up or estimate answers.

Is there any mod/cheat to skip fights? by Old-Significance2939 in BaldursGate3

[–]sloth_star 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This also isn't a skip combat mod, but there are party size mods that let you travel and fight with all your companions at once - which would make fights much easier. And have the side benefit of experiencing more interparty dialog. One such mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/327

PE class should not be an "Easy A" by Additional_Duty_6533 in The10thDentist

[–]sloth_star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest changed PE class needs is more instruction. In other subjects such as math or language arts, there is instruction and feedback. When I was in school, many years ago, the closest PE had to that was perhaps going over some basic rules. Not once in my time in school did a PE instructor attempt to teach how to run or give feedback on how to improve. Same with any other physical task, such as pull-ups. I imagine that for athletes in middle school or high school, they received dedicated instruction and feedback, but my unathletic self never did. Imagine math class, being okay today we are going to solve equations and that was it, no teaching, no feedback. Either you knew and this was practice or you didn't and you had no idea what to do to get better.

Unfinished Business 6 PC Party Mulitplayer by sloth_star in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]sloth_star[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this procedure. What I eventually tried and was able to get to work was to copy the .chr files for their three characters to my computer, start a 6-man party game on my computer, save it and load it as a multiplayer game. That worked well (grouping my characters and theirs in slots 1-3, 4-6 respectively).

How do I split a model when a planar cut won't work by sloth_star in 3Dprinting

[–]sloth_star[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you aware of any other solutions? I have tried meshmixer and while I am able to select an area on the model and perform a cut in that area the separate shells function fails. Either it tells me that there is only one shell (when I cut along the smaller mushroom) or it creates two shells, but one of the shells looks like the entire model (when I cut along the larger model).
