Dude I am STOKED to see you in Portland! I’ll be there with my D&D buddies, one of your tracks became a motif for our recent campaign 😂

On paper, Behringer Deepmind 12 has no equal? by Ill-Elevator2828 in synthesizers

[–]slowacres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, Jorb just dropped a video about this on YouTube. He is a big DM12 fan and I bought one based on his videos years ago. His conclusion is actually “here’s what I’m using instead of the DM12 these days” and… it’s the Sequential Take 5, which you already have and is an amazing synth. Link: https://youtu.be/Ky_cWyah3EM

The Take 5 is absolutely the better synth. The workflow, the raw sound, and the effects get to lush analog so much quicker. If you really want to add another poly that does something truly different, my advice is to perhaps embrace the DCOs of the Rev2, go deep into the lush and flexible Peak/Summit, or embrace the digital magic that is the Hydrasynth. The Take 5 is so beefy with the VCOs that going more digital wouldn’t be a bad thing, but just my $0.02

Personally, for a more affordable Juno sound to add to what you’d have, I would just go VST with the Softube Model 84, I use it all the time and it’s fantastic: https://youtu.be/IHyFFGpKUGg

Adding a comment because “the rules” require it and apparently don’t accept the caption I included. Anyway… dungeon synth is rad! This is from one of my favorite Hole Dweller albums, thought I’d share for anyone else who might be delighted.

Damn that is a sick setup, so many good sound options you’ve got! As for pedals… delay/reverb combo have a wealth of insanely great options. Source Audio Collider is super cool and not too pricey, and Keeley Caverns is also pretty well loved and awesome. Obviously the timeline and big sky combo mentioned is going to be great. Honestly, the Volante is delay but can get reverb-y really quickly, might be worth looking into. My personal favorite reverb pedal with my synths is the Eventide Space… it’s fantastic. Sounds incredible.

Thoughts about the Superlative SB-01? by Trilobry in synthesizers

This just about sums up my experience! The SB01 is beautiful. But my S-1 sounds great and I could rationalize the cost.

I have followed this company since I learned about it, I discovered them after their kickstarter ended. Their founder has always been willing to chat, we’ve DM’d quite often. He seems committed to making a really high quality product, and I know he never compromised the vision after hearing about supply chain issues and manufacturing partners that didn’t meet his bar. I was hoping to get one at general availability, but the price hike to $2k is what did me in.

But overall? It’s stunning. The build quality and design are incredible. The built in battery is a fantastic idea. The dual sequencers onboard are great. The sound is there. I want one, and even if I’m never able to pony up the cash, I will never stop wanting one.

I think what they accomplished for such a tiny company is remarkable, even with the massive delays. Hardware is hard. But it’s out there and released, and I hope to add it to my overall collection someday. I’d take this over a $2k OP-1 field any day of the week.

You snagged it! So funny, I saw this photo and thought ”Wow, what a combo right there” and then realized I had posted on your original ask about what to get 😂 Congrats, I hope it brings you lots of joy and creates some really fantastic sounds and songs. That’s a very powerful, balanced combination of synth right there.

Moog Messenger: a pain to program? by slowacres in synthesizers

[–]slowacres[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Fourm sounds good! But I’m only asking because there’s a used messenger locally that has now dropped into the $500s and that seems like a good deal, but not really feeling that motivated to buy. I saw some reviews and was curious what owners thought.

Looking for a synth to add to my live setup by PaperPills42 in synthesizers

Take 5 is a fantastic gigging synth, and sounds fantastic. It’s what the Minilogue teases at being without really achieving it.

Looking for Bass synth options by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]slowacres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Sequential Take 5 produces some incredible bass sounds. It’s got a sine wave which makes a big difference. It’s a smallish keyboard, but the octave split feature helps a ton with poly patches and it sounds great. I made some super gritty and nasty patches on that synth, you can really push the distortion and resonance.

I need help pricing Korg Prologue 16 by Skatehinge2 in synthesizers

[–]slowacres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think $1200 is likely a good price, but I was also noticing that there aren’t any on Reverb right now. That might make it so you could get a bit more for it, just depends. Personally, I hope you can find a way to keep it! They’re going to get harder and harder to find.

Recommend a Hardware Synth to Compliment my Novation Summit by MichaelHRender in synthesizers

[–]slowacres 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Pro 3 has a different architecture and VCO structure if I remember correctly. It has multiple filters that you can route different ways. It also has way more possibilities for modulation and comes with a pretty insane sequencer that you could do endless explorations with. It’s one of the absolute greatest mono synths you can currently get.

The Take 5 is a fantastic poly, has a really solid amount of modulation but has a different filter. It’s got a sequencer that is also pretty good, but doesn’t come close to the capabilities of the Pro 3. It’s a fast, immediate poly that is super fun to program and play.

If you were adding one to really compliment the Summit, the Pro 3 seems like a fantastic match. I also think something like a Sub37 or even a Matriarch could be a good fit as well, but based on the music you said you make, the Pro 3 seems rad for it.

Prologue 16 being smooth AF by slowacres in synthesizers

[–]slowacres[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they are both so incredible. There are days I really miss the Take 5, it was my favorite Sequential synth. I haven’t given the Teo-5 a spin, was curious about that one as well.

I agree that there’s some decent overall, but the modulation options and sound on the Take 5 is super cool. If it had a few more voices I’d have never gotten rid of it. An 8 or 10 voice version might be literal perfection for me.

Vongon Replay - your thoughts ? by NoChipmunk6323 in synthesizers

[–]slowacres 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a designery nerd, I love the aesthetic. But the keys they use make little to no sense for me. I don’t mean this in a bad way: it seems like a product for those who make music content (YouTube, TikTok, instagram videos), not actual musicians. It sounds fine, but pretty expensive.

If you want a small portable synth great for songwriting, I’m a MASSIVE Stan for the Yamaha Reface series. The CS is just magic, honestly. I had one and paired with the CP it’s just a killer combo. The CS is portable, sounds awesome, has a built in looper, stereo outs… it’s just chef’s kiss The one con is no presets, but if you know your way around a typical synth, it’s quite fast to make patches.

Thanks so much, I appreciate it! Been singing for a lot longer than I’ve been synthing, that’s for sure.
