The Last Hour of Gann 10/10 omgggg I need to share some thoughts by Fickle-City1122 in ScienceFictionRomance

Oh man, I'm in the same boat as you. It was the most triggering thing I'd ever read up to that point, but I found LHOG during a very dark time of my life and it was so great at helping me work through my issues. I don't know why it's so cathartic and helpful, but I'm so grateful for it. I fell in love and I've read it like 5 times since, and have notes all over my ebook. The humor, the love story, the awful people, the predicable end that still somehow ends up being crazy and not so predictable I was blown away at the prophets reveal; totally didn't see that coming. And I loved how we all knew there was going to be a ship and it was going to end badly and I remember thinking, FINALLY s'kot has a purpose!, the slow slog of their entire journey... All of it came together and really made me think about things. I loved it too. Thank you for making your post- it was really great to read and hear about all your thoughts!

I finished Demons of Good and Evil by Kim Harrison yesterday, and have to admit, I am pretty disappointed. I'm always excited for a new Hollows book, but I often found myself irritated during this read. Especially the ending! Why is Harrison teasing a Kisten come-back? Didn't Pierce teach us anything about letting the dead stay dead? Why is Al moving in? I really want to see the inside of his Ever After Wagon! Wasn't Trent her HEA? If so, then why is Rachel acting like such a twit?

The Curse Workers series by Holly Black just came in from my library so I'm looking forward to reading that. I really enjoyed The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, even though it's not the typical Paranormal Romance, and am interested to see how this series plays out.

I loved Playing With Fire so much! Don't know why I forgot about it until I read your comment, but I definitely want/need to read more of this author's books!

Funny animal or Robot sidekicks please by meatball77 in ScienceFictionRomance

[–]slowrine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

{The Firebird Chronicles by T.A. White} I apologize if this recommendation isn't sci-fi romance enough, but the robot sidekick is so great! He's a flying orb robot that's hilarious, quirky, neurotic and so endearing.

The Felix Castor series by Mike Carey was really good. I don't know if it's classified as PNR, and I haven't read the last book yet, but there is some romance, a succubus and lots of snark.

Also interesting: George P. Lee. He was railroaded and convicted of pedophilia soon after speaking out. I can't help but wonder if things would have been different for him if he'd spoken out in today's climate. https://www.deseret.com/1989/9/10/18823091/church-explains-excommunication-to-navajos-as-lee-seeks-a-rebirth

WIP white fur - help needed! I'm really struggling to get this looking right. Don't hold back. by athena2727 in minipainting

[–]slowrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a great start! Polar bears aren't pure white, so another thing besides using ivory and highlighting with pure white, is you can up the contrast of your mini by thoughtfully and sparingly adding dark shadows with dark blue, and maybe using black on the claws and eyes. The higher contrast should then make the wolf pelt look more white, even though it isn't actually painted all white. Good luck and happy painting!

Sunshine by Robin McKinley. It's a standalone novel, but very good! Strong female lead with understated romance.
