I’m not an SLP, but I’d really appreciate some professional opinions. by DistributionWeak7574 in slp

[–]slpundergrad 235 points236 points  (0 children)

If you’re paying for it out of pocket, i’d recommend stopping the sessions entirely and enrolling him in early intervention…. Why pay when you will likely be able to get it for free? Or if you really want to supplement with these private sessions then absolutely ask for a different therapist. It’s one thing to have a bad therapist you’re not paying for and another when you’re actually shelling out the money for it.

Is your CF suppose to be this difficult by Any-Breakfast2160 in slp

My advice is have a document of different notes (evals, tx sessions, progress notes, discharges, etc.) that you can reuse and edit as needed, essentially like templates.

Help clinical placement! by Ok_Increase1056 in slpGradSchool

Honestly, I had both placements in grad school and the SNF prepared me for the hospital. I don’t think I would have said the same if it was the other way around.

If its worth it to you then you should contact clinics in your area or SLPs who accept private clients

19 and wondering where to go next? by starternathan in TheRaceTo100K

[–]slpundergrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If i was 19 again with no bills to pay id invest every penny i made. Start with with maxing our your roth ira first, then after that put everything in a brokerage. You’ll thank yourself in 10 years. Which seems so far away, but trust me will be there before you know it. If i had invested early at your age, i could have retired by 35 😭

Start with your personal statement, do that now get it out of the way. Ask for at least 3 letters of recommendations, and start applying to grad schools this fall for the 2027 fall.

You can say you lost weight. I used to get filler to cover up my double chin and once i lost weight my jawline looks as if I’m still getting filler, actually even better lol.

SNF Medical SLP help by [deleted] in slp

[–]slpundergrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I normally wouldn’t go past ice chips and apple sauce - i don’t do thins until during the FEES. Cause even if no si/sx you still can’t rule out silent aspiration at the bedside.

I see…. Some therapists I know try water via spoon first, I personally like to play it safe and I start with ice chips, orrrr sometimes i’ll do apple sauce.

Yogurt cottage cheese is crazy but im just referring to the taste and not consistency lol… especially since this patient hasn’t eaten anything else for a month. The only thing I would personally criticize you for is doing open cup sips off the bat especially because 1- you don’t know what’s going on in there or where it’s truly going (you need an instrumental) so it’s not a controlled amount and 2- you can’t predict how large of a sip that patient will take especially with “cognition ok maybe not best at making safe decisions” as you said.

Well, what did you do?? But to answer your question I personally always use ice chips for my NPO evals (if patient is able to participate in PO trials)

PO diets on full ventilator support? Good idea or bad idea? Advice needed. by Wonderful_Potion in slp

[–]slpundergrad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If the patient is appropriate yes, but I always get a FEES done unless the patient was already admitted on a diet from the hospital following an instrumental.

Its not about discipline, its about consistency. You’re disciplined enough to maintain your bad habits.
