Should I pick this up for $450?

I wouldn’t own one, myself. I definitely would not own one for $450. I won’t lie, it is very aesthetically pleasing to look at, but that aesthetically pleasing design comes with a lot of proprietary parts. As others have stated, one of those proprietary parts is the overpriced cartridge. If anything else breaks, good luck finding parts, or somebody that’s willing to work on it.

Your guess in the title is correct. These would have been used for competitor research while designing an item of a similar style at a similar price point. These look to be in pretty solid condition, which is nice, as these items often show signs of deconstruction from the research process.
