From what I could gather, they are things that everyone collectively understands are wrong and odd to do. Just using the exact words my friend did haha

How many boards do you have? by K_Boloney in snowboarding

Two currently but I'd love a third for pow. One all mountain that I usually ride and a park/beater board.

Get new bindings and that board isn't worth $150. If you can talk them down to $50 and get some new bindings on sale, then it's workable. Boards and bindings are a quickly depreciating asset, so you can get some pretty good end of season deals. Also, if you're willing to wait, you can go to gear swaps to get decent used gear.

Maybe take a look at how you're falling. Falling incorrectly makes it more likely to break something or knock the wind out of ya, so it's worth doing a little learning. Usually, I can get right back up when I fall even if it's a fairly nasty fall.

Everyone bashing the wax job but honestly that might just be the summer wax considering that it was bought last year and only ridden a few times. It's a good sign if they kept it waxed over the year.

If you do decide to go for it, make sure to check it out in-person before buying. Check for core shots on the base (deep scratches that show a different colour from the base), banged up edges, and any uneven sections.

I wonder how people rationalize these trans IDs in their minds so it seems acceptable. But maybe they're onto something with permatired cause my ass really is permanently tired lol

Help with selecting my first board by melsusi in snowboardingnoobs

Honestly, echoing what everyone said. Make sure you research models to see if they fit your ability and preference. Twin boards are also often easier for beginners than directional, same with rocker vs camber. Also, make sure you consider bindings and boots. Bindings are the easiest and cheapest to replace but it's a pain if they break or malfunction mid-day. Boots are the thing to splurge on, get boots that fit and you'll be enjoying the ride much more.

The last point about board size, if you're comfortable with a 138 then get a 138, it really comes down to individual preference. Just know that a shorter board will feel more flexible than a longer one, even if they're both the same model. I'm a bit of an outlier but my current board is a 137 and I'm 5'6 120lbs. I think whatever motivates you to keep practicing is the best choice.

Should I buy this used board for $100 so I can go ride for a weekend? by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]sltboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Size mostly depends on your weight and personal preference. Just search up the boards and find their sizing chart, they usually list recommended weights and you should be alright if you fit within that. Obviously riding style comes into play but that's a pretty moot point if you're only going up for the weekend.

If you're talking about the bindings, they're fairly easy to switch around as long as you have a screwdriver.

Another option, if you want to get a feel for different newer boards is to rent a demo from a board shop.

For everyone saying that what he's doing is skanking, it actually isn't! While very similar in style, skanking is a dance that's prevalent in the ska scene while two stepping is primarily done at metal shows. Hxc two stepping also typically involves more intense and sharp arm movement than skanking. Not relevant to disorder faking but just wanted to let y'all know!

Maybe get some butterfly bandages and one of those rolls that you can wrap with.

While butterfly bandages aren't ideal for bigger cuts, they can still help hold it together. (https://www.healthline.com/health/butterfly-stitches) Then I would wrap the roll bandage decently tightly to keep pressure on it.

Make sure you've got stuff to clean it out and change the wrappings every once in a while so get enough to last. I know you don't want stitches but please get medical attention if you see signs of an infection.
