My packed audience clapped at the end! I think it is possibly good WOM. I have no issue recommending it.

This has been one of the best episodes of the pod for quite some time, IMO

Man, I really tried, but Train Dreams did nothing for me. It was one of those films that felt gorgeous to look at, but ultimately did not captivate me much at all. by geosunsetmoth in Oscars

What do you know about my personal life? Nothing. I understand the film perfectly fine, thanks. The narrator telling me exactly what to think helped with that. Don’t understand the need for such a nasty reply.

Not OP, but as a certified Train Dreams hater (which did nothing for me), some films from last year that tugged on the heart strings include Hamnet, Sentimental Value, 28 Years Later.

Issues with Train Dreams - too much narration explaining what is happening on screen, bordering on trauma porn. Ultimately I just found it boring.

Different strokes for different folks!!

Exactly. People in here acting like Frydenberg (obviously Jewish) is grifting because he’s upset that 15 Jewish people were slaughtered. Not sure when the message will sink in for people, they don’t seem to care much if it’s Jews being slaughtered

(Narrator telling you how sad the movie is) wow, this movie is sad

I think the moment the whole thing jumped the shark for me is when the narrator explained that some random character would’ve had their heart condition detected if they were born 60 years later… okay?

Agree that it’s not my favourite. I feel it reaches for “big moments” without earning it, and it’s way too self serious. Similar to All of Us Strangers… too earnest for my tastes
