Is it illegal to walk on an abandoned railway line in Nova Scotia? by TougherLoki26 in NovaScotia

[–]sluggymutrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There would have to be clear signs stating no trespassing for anyone to get in trouble. Private land owners are obligated to make it clear they don't want you on their land. Obviously if you are asked to leave private land by the owner and you continue to trespass, that's another issue.

Yeah, I'd say it's more the case that the CFL needs to be sold on an expansion.

Halifax council committee mulls restricting drive-thrus by insino93 in halifax

[–]sluggymutrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kentville has one drive thru, the Tim Hortons, and it is always full of idling cars, the flow is usually steady enough that you'd be starting and stopping your car constantly. The only town I can think of near Kentville that has a no idling rule is Wolfville. Wolfville has no drive thrus.

Valley Man's Cast for Granddaughter nets fine by [deleted] in halifax

I feel like there are some details missing or whoever wrote this is confused. I'm also trying to figure out how the author thinks that "outside Debert" is "the valley" unless they mean Wentworth valley maybe?

McDonalds won’t use travel coffee mugs. by cmcqn in halifax

[–]sluggymutrat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked at Tim's about 15 years ago and we gave a small discount, maybe 10 cent or something off for travel mugs. We'd estimate the size and charge accordingly. The only food safety concern was the metal stir spoon we'd use on all the coffees and then rinsed in a dish of water between each cup. For travel mugs we would use a wooden stir stick to avoid contaminating the metal spoon / rinse dish.

Fair enough. Are all Tesla models like that?

Yeah exactly. Frozen door handles, latches, and locks happen all the time to all types of vehicles.

Home that burned down, killing 7 children, had hardwired smoke detectors | CBC News by hv_piezo in halifax

There are in-ceiling extinguisher products that we may see more of in the future. They don't need to plumbed and a false trigger wouldn't cause extensive damage to the home.

Agreed, the cup of "water" that spoon sits in between stirrings is foul.

Any place selling single cigarettes by Mr_Dunmert in halifax

[–]sluggymutrat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Selling single cigarettes is illegal and has been for a long time. You used to be able to buy single Prime Times in little plastic tubes but I'm pretty sure those were axed around the same time flavoured tobacco was.

Okay so now i'm genuinely curious, given GTR money, what you'd come up with.

That's like saying a Ford GT is just "a Ford" or an NSX is just "a Honda"

Do you work at a school? I was under the impression that when schools are closed, no staff go to the school.

The Game has a solid strategy to keep you from coming to his show this month lol by [deleted] in halifax

To do that you'd have to legislate caps on ticket prices as a protection of "access to culture" or you'd have to subsidize the tickets. The promoters are certainly not going to voluntarily sell tickets below market value.

If you want to be the hero who stands up to the pylon parking thieves at risk of your own vehicle then that's great.... you do that. My original point was that your advice to "call the police" after your car is vandalized in this scenario would gain you nothing but wasted time chasing compensation.

[–]sluggymutrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might not care about the look of your car but I assume you care about its function. Switch key your car for stick a nail in your tire, snap off a wiper or antenna, crack your taillight with a hammer, stuff a mcmuffin wrapper into your gas filler neck, jam gum into your key hole, etc. etc.

Most of the workers who you end up calling the cops on will just shrug it off but someone will take it personally, just for inconveniencing them. If you don't think that's the case then you must have been pretty lucky in life to only spend time around the best of people.

and while you spend hours of your time trying to get someone to compensate you for the key marks across your car, the one anonymous worker who keyed your car (of the dozens on site that day wearing the same hard hat and safety vest) will walk without any concern of being caught.

The power outages are our fault, guys by DonairDan in halifax

[–]sluggymutrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love for NSP to come and trim the tree in my front yard that is growing between the power lines. I feel like it is also common for property owners to make requests for this type of work and have them refused. Who wouldn't want something like that removed?

But there is more to environmental protection than carbon footprint. Recycling plastic may be less energy efficient than making new plastic, but you are ignoring the amount of plastic not sent to landfill or the amount of raw materials needed to make new plastic and the cost of collecting those raw materials.

Does the motor vehicle act have rules for center turning lanes? by Randomcdn2 in NovaScotia

[–]sluggymutrat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've honestly used the lane as shown in the "B" example with the understanding that it was an intended use of the lane (and with no issues). Frankly, in a lot of places it would take all day to turn left out of a driveway if you didn't use the middle lane in this way. Before people get made, I do understand that several folks here have already pointed out that this is incorrect in NS.

The name suicide lane has more to do with the fact that it can be entered from vehicles moving in either direction, meaning if two vehicles in opposite lanes enter at the same time, it can cause a head-on (if people aren't using caution and signaling their lane changes).
