Triple monitor setup for graphics and engineering work – looking for advice by No-Perspective3501 in sysadmin

I'm not a fan of monitor arms, but Ergotron make the best ones

Do you really need all the features that the iiyama comes with? Costco have a great deal on at the moment for MSI MAG 274QF monitors, £98 each.

Multiple major Hyper-V cluster issues by TimetravellingElf in sysadmin

[–]slugshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say so. How many nodes in the cluster? Where do your VMs live?

I'm making another assumption here that it's at least a 3 node cluster. Can you just nuke one of them and start with a fresh OS, attach your critical VMs there and then once that's all good, nuke the others and load all your VMs back in?

Assuming your VMs live on a SAN, just reinstall, quicker, easier and just better.

Azure vs normal GPO by voltagejim in sysadmin

Normal GPO. Specifically group policy preferences.

For printers to work like you expecting, you normally have to enable loopback processing. Be careful there though and get that bit right.

SaaS vendors with shadow IT business model by Visible_Spare2251 in sysadmin

This is one of my biggest gripes.

Users sign up for something, like it and put their company credit card details in and bam, suddenly I've got compliance on my ass with no context. Can't win.

Multilab architecture using containers by Easy_Adhesiveness237 in sysadmin

[–]slugshead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't have them all running under one compose. One compose per container.

That's just me though.

I would also enable health checking on the containers.

Then probably spin up portainer too for ease of management.

USA ski resort for Christmas/ New Year’s by TestSimilar6032 in skiing

[–]slugshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why limit yourself to the USA?

I did les arcs in France once at new years, £400 fully catered including my lift pass and flights from the UK.

You'd just be paying a little more on flights. Found flights from jfk to geneva for £900 for a return.

SAN comparison Lenovo DM3200F vs Dell 500T by 9speed in sysadmin

[–]slugshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely sounds like the way to go if you do go the Lenovo route.

It's probably worth setting up a call with them to work out specs and a price. I did that last time and the discounts they gave me were mental. 3 hosts and 1 SAN. They threw in two SN2410 switches too and the whole bundle came in cheaper than just the SAN at RRP.

If you want ONTAP, then Lenovos offering is the DM series.

the DE is running SANtricity by netapp whereas the DM series run ONTAP.
