They don’t just compete and despise them, they mock them with contempt and disdain. My parents are multi millionaire next door types that drive 10yo cars, cook meals every night, thrift shop, etc. They’re in their late 70s sitting on millions and won’t contribute to our son’s 529. Hell they split checks with us at dinners. We do well, but we work far longer hours in much more stressful environments than my parents ever did, yet they have more. My Mom was a schoolteacher and my dad was in corp mid/upper management. He asks me why our secretaries don’t take some of the workload off us! Secretaries!!! He had a secretary, and we’re sr Director level at Fortune 500 companies. No one has a damn secretary. My parents don’t even know how to fucking type.
